I don't get why we have to call and make an appointment. If we get an email stating the phone has arrived, we should have 48 hrs to pick it up, then it'll be released for others to purchase. Why do we have to make an appointment?! Wouldn't the mobile department be barraged with phone calls, especially since usually it is only one person handling that area?

Doesn't make any sense to me.
I wonder if they are going to help you set up your phone too. I personally have done it by myself and still been charged the fee, so it doesn't matter. Plus the mobile Target I preorder at looks like there's only one guy for the Kiosk. I dont think the want to overwhelm that one guy

I would think they dont want the aisles clogged with people waiting to pickup the phone at 8am or whenever they do open. The appointment thing makes sense. Id rather get there at a time that I designate than just a hoarde of people ahead of me and me sitting at Target for hours on end.

I totally get that reason. I also wouldn't want a horde of people in front of me as well. But if they are taking calls from people to make appointments on Friday rather than today, then wouldn't they still be busy doing something else?

If the employee were taking appointments ahead of Friday's release, then I would totally be inclined to do the appointment thing.

I see both sides of the coin though.

for those that are asking and going on about buying off contract the best advice is to call your local target to get a official answer please don't water down the thread going back and forth about something that has been answered.

No kidding. I just moved to Alabama (don't ask...), but I used to live in Hunters Ridge apartments directly across from that target! Small world.

I did a Walmart preorder for my 5 that was a smaller store and didn't get any. The same day the store 15 min away had plenty of 5's so I just went there and got one on release day. I logged into apple and did a pre order for the 5s and over the week saw my delivery date pushed back further and further. On launch day I checked the Best Buy inventory tracker and that night at 9pm picked up my new 5s and cancelled my pre order. I'm not expecting much from Target tomorrow. Not to mention since I've gotten a new iphone every year since the 4 I'm not discount eligible (200 off full price) until the 9/21 according to the apple.com upgrade status. I'm hoping Target comes though and can give me until the 21st to pick it up, or ATT follows Verizons offer to give an upgrade early if you're within 2 months. ATT has typically done this with previous releases, this year they are pushing the NEXT program so hard I'm not sure they will give an early upgrade discount. I'm grandfathered and since I'm a single line, I stand to pay about 50+ dollars a month on the next plan for 4gb of data, but that's another thread :D

I guess thats where it gets a little hectic when we have to call in morning to setup appts. He's just gonna have to multi-task. I really dont care if I get it Friday or not. All of us have been through so many releases that we all know better that the "for sure" thing is Apple and not anywhere else. I just took a shot at Target to avoid lines and such.

Couldn't preorder the 5s, the best these retailers do is put you on a waiting list and they will sell them when they come in.

Called target and they confirmed that they haven't gotten any shipments in, and if at all it would be in the morning. So off to ATT line I go...

ok i starting to prepare operation plan B!!!! Gathering my campout supplies also just left my local AT&T store they do in fact have 6+'s in stock i repeat they do!! they wouldn't tell me how many but, i was told don't worry about going to the apple store,my friend tried to get me a exact count but the manager was tripping and said to tell people they will know tomorrow but I'm 2000% sure my homeboy wouldn't lie to me

I just talked to our Target mobile guy in person. He confirmed they have nothing. He said he'd call me if a shipment shows up. But he also confirmed other busier targets closer to the Twin Cities metro DID get shipments. I have a gold 6P on preorder there, for a total of three phones. I probably should have put two on preorder up there. It's not looking good for avoiding the overnight wait. :(

The company that supplies the phones is called Brightstar. The company that owns the kiosks in Target is called Marketsource. With so many layers of companies that Target contracts, this could go badly.

No NEXT checkout option for my pre-ordered iPhone 6 plus

Sighs....Plan B "The Apple Experience"

Super Target where I placed the pre-order for the iPhone 6 plus doesn't participate in AT&T NEXT program

Just spoke to the rep at my local target here in Jax. He said he can see what's coming on the truck a day or two in advance. Said he has some 16gb 6s in and that he doesn't think the 64gb 6 plus will be in until Saturday or early next week. He even remembered who I was and that I was the first to pre-order the Plus so I'm thinking he's on top of the game. My local ATT store is in the same center so I may go up there tomorrow and see if I can snag the Plus before it arrives at Target anyway.

I bet emails won't be out until tomorrow. They probably aren't allowed to open the packages of phones until launch day. That's how the Apple store is.

That would be my guess. Earliest the emails would come out is later this evening after they close.

Emails, texts and phone calls go out as the units are checked in--I was told.

Right. Which would be tomorrow. Not trying to be a downer, but I see no reason for them to check them in today. They're not like us.

Weird, went to local Target, showed them my preorder. Told them I have a fatal disease and can't wait outside overnight. The guy checked in back, no phones. Then on the way out, amazing, I ran into the district manager for Mobile. Can't remember the name of the company. It's not Target though. He said no, the phones are here. He guaranteed it. Said to check back with the Mobile guy to see if your model is there. So I did, and he went back again...no phones. WTF? The district manager did say no emails until launch day. So, those without faith in Target must go wait in line overnight needlessly, perhaps. Oh, I don't have a fatal disease. But I have a bad cold so I sounded like crap to the guy....he really went to check FAST when I asked.

Yeah, I don't get the appt thing too. I suppose it's so one guy can handle the traffic. But there's going to be a line anyway, even at Target. So, why not just show up at 8am, present the pre-order, and say "I'm making my appt right now". Prolly will have the email by then anyway, because it's automatically generated at the time they check in the phones. And they have to have been checked in because they're handing them out to the first-come first-served line, right?

The mobile rep at my Target said they would only have phones for the customers who did a pre-order, no phones for walk-ins. So, we'll see I guess.

Called my local store again and they said that only half of all the Targets in the US will be getting their preorders tomorrow. The other half will get it at some point but they don't know when. the guy said he didn't know if his store was one getting them but since others have seen the inventory by them Ill assume my store isn't one of them.

My local at&t store did say they will have a "limited" quantity of the Plus available so may just go there around 5am and get one, my apple preorder won't be here till October.
