Sigh, there is no Apple car and isn’t going to be one

Well, then why are all these websites are reporting on the Apple Car?

Yes, it’s in development. No, it won’t be released this year, or next. It takes MANY years for car model to develop. Heck, it has to go through concept car phase first, which alone takes years to develop.

Will Apple ever admit they are developing a car? No. They don’t want Tesla or other automakers to go ahead and get another head start to compete with Apple Car on day 1. But with substantial reports coming out from multiple rumor sites, is Apple Car basically Apple’s new “hobby” project like Apple TV? Yes.

To be fair, Apple Car is not even an announced product from Apple.

The only whiff from Apple in recent years was the AirPower which faced quality control problems according to rumors.

The big homerun from Apple in recent years are AirPods which managed to take the stale headphone industry and revolutionize it so that now everybody is making AirPod clones.

The less obvious homerun is Apple silicon. Let’s give that a year or two to pan out and see if Intel can close the gap or if the margin widens.
The Apple Silicon home run is pretty obvious to me. Also I deeply regret the original HomePod wasn't a home run -- I'm devastated by it being pulled off the market (same for the AirPort genre).

True, Apple Car is not an announced product, but as unannounced Apple products go -- the Apple Car has gotten massive public news. Do you have any idea who is running the secret Apple glasses group? Neither do I, though we are both at least dimly aware that it exists. Apple Car OTOH has major both internal and external people linked to it: Bob Mansfield, John Giannandrea, etc. We really can't pretend the Apple Car doesn't exist

His comments about slight refinements could equally be applied to the Porsche 911 - slight refinements which result in the best automotive experience ever.

Where is the cybertruck? Where is the roadster? Where is the semi? What happened to Tesla roofs?

At least Apple usually delivers when they say they will and doesn’t take people money before then.
Those are the things Tesla people “are looking forward” to I guess.
BTW, I’m actually still waiting for my 16”MBP…and it appears Apple think it’s OK to wait 5 months!!? For it…

I do when forced. Let’s you & me meet in 50 years at a wedding and see if we hear more songs from the 40’s-90’s than 00-20’s…. :)

I’m willing to bet $10 we’ll hear more Earth Wind & Fire before we hear something released in the last 5 months by…hmmm can’t think of anyone noteworthy. :)

Cybertuck isn’t manufactured yet, doesn’t count.
deal, count me in and we shall see! ?

idk though, it sounds like you might need to try some Doja Cat or something ??

and you’re right, Cybertruck isn’t manufactured yet… hopefully it doesn’t go the way of AirPower ?

Doesn't the MME look like an bloated Mustang though?

Not saying the MME looks bad, it too looks somewhat generic, which isn't a bad thing.
Generic in Auto world is bad design. Mustang “has personality and personality goes along way”…

Lol trillion dollar companies mud slinging at each other.
Tesla is not even in that 1 Trillion dollar mark. They are close, stocks are down. 😂

i really hope apple pulls a surprice with the apple car. Tesla Went from being a company you look up to to now a really bad company. Bad quality, overpriced and not playing well with others. They are *******s but in reality, they have no competition!!

We all know that he’s right but the Apple apologists will backlash as they do.
In 14 years:
1. Trash Can Mac Pro (which was a surprise and fun but ultimately poorly designed)
2. Apple Watch (if you’re into that sort of thing)
3. Wireless earbuds.

And that’s it!
Makes you wonder what they’re spending their tens of billions of dollars of R&D on.
Things that end up here:

I could see them doing autonomous ride share, I am not really sure Apple should sink the capital into selling actual cars.
Selling or producing? Ride share only without proprietor car is something other companies could “copycat”. The car will have the “brand allure” effect capable of captivating market share that seeks/demands ownership option. Challenge would be scale of production and technical assistance…

They could make cars for ride share and not sell said cars to the general public.

Production should be easy given adequate battery supply. I am still curious about how Apple would deal with the current (independent franchise) dealership laws though.

Anyone can report anything, so I personally don’t care what they say, I don’t believe there will ever be a car ??‍♂️

Can't say I disagree really. Every year, a nip, tuck, a little thinner, a little brighter, a little more expensive... yawn... Need to break new ground. Ditching intel was fine, but no path for us that still need some windows apps to run at native performance. Tesla's actual production stuff all looks the same so they've got nothing to say, but doesn't mean they are wrong about Apple. (discrediting the source as a way of refuting the argument is a classical logical fallacy that smart people should be above resorting to)

Honestly reading all those messages is a bit sad.
I mean Apple does release nice products that I enjoy using...but it's just stuff. It's not some life altering experience.

My 13 pro is an awesome machine but at the end of the day, a 200 USD Nokia or Motorola phone could do pretty much the same things as my iphone.

Now that the big car makers are rolling out EV’s Teslas are starting to look more and more like ipads with wheels rather than proper cars that people want to drive. As Tesla are slow to market with new vehicles their EV market share will plummet as newer and cheaper vehicles come to market.

Wait.... are you trying to imply that Mercedes interior looks nice? It reminds me of an advanced hot tube with lights and jets everywhere. I'd take the current S interior from a design perspective over the Mercedes (EQS?).

Tesla’s S has sharp edges design, dull colors, cheap leather, uncomfortable seats, no ambience, no buttons, self driving is harsh… just to name a few. There’s a difference when you sit in the car versus in pictures. I was referring to the W222 in the previous post.
