My custom file for you?

Is there any reason I couldn't send my completed Pwnage Tool 2.0.2 iPhone1,1_2.0.1_5B108_Custom_Restore.ipsw file to someone else to use on his 1st gen iPhone?

It is a "full whammy" unlock, activate, jailbreak file created with default icons, etc.

Works great on my 1st gen iPhone. Why is it necessary for everyone to construct his own custom file?

SOrry if I haven't answered question to date. Thing is I am in vacation in my home country and rarely get online to check cause I'm a but busy here ;). Any way, there is a sticky thread in this forum for all questions regarding Pwnage tool and WinPwn.

Please remember this is a Fact and FAQ for people who need clarification of general stuff. Reason I've been answering specific questions is because the Pwnage FAQ thread wasn't stickied and people didn't see it.

Anyhow, now that it is stickied, here is the link to it: Click Me

That thread should answer all your Pwnage/WinPwn/unlock/jailbreak/activation questions.

Generalized questions can still be answered here. [definitions, who is who, etc]

Cheers

I pwnd my 8GB iphone with no problems at all about two weeks ago. I'm starting to noticed however that my phone and alerts are no longer ringing. It vibrates, but no ring. Is this common when unlocking? I'm using T-Moblie.

Also, some have suggested restoring. What's involved with rtestoring? ill it restore it back to 1.1.4 or will it stay at 2.0. I'm very confused about this aspect.

thanks in advance

Is that strange.....Every thing worked ok just till i got to restore the file... Itunes Prompted **NB "Itunes must check the ipod software update server to identify the device" (Cancel) or (check) button. There was no mention of this in tutorial?? has apple planted this to lock my Phone? Are you aware of this..Can you advise me. thanks. Alan

Hmm, This is interesting...Ahhm, After Reading it I found out the problem. You Need to Stop and Try again D: It thinks it is an iPod i Believe !But! I would wait until someone else says something to do this.

Has apple planted this to lock my Phone? Are you aware of this..Can you advise me. thanks. Alan

No, there is no waay in h*** that apple would be able to tell if it is a jailbroken firmware file or not, if they were, 2.0 would not work...as it is changed in each release and iTunes would have to be updated the same time the iPod was. 2 They cannot "Lock" your phone with a jailbroken restore AS LONG as you are in DFU Mode.

Thanks,
Clayton

I have had a bad day at work and to add to it i have a major echo from my iphone 2g. The person on the end of the phone hears it not me, have tried with a different sim and network, still happens. Tried my sim in another phone all good, so it is obviously the phone.

I am one 1.1.4 at the moment unlocked etc with iliberty, any suggestions? Should i upgrade to 2.0, if so how?
Sorry to go over old ground it is just that i am getting fed up with this bloody phone.

Hi,
I own 2G iphone, i bought it when it was launched and i jail break and unlock it usging the methods i found in this forum, and now it runs 1.1.2 anyway i've never use the iphone for quite sometimes cause i'm very busy with my work and i had to use my trusty Nokia E90 for that, (i use iphone mainly for leisure phone) :p
anyway last week i went to hong kong and one of my colleague ask me to buy an iphone 3G for him, so i bought one , whte colour , factory unlocked, the moment i tried the phone, i starting to fell in love again, but i remember that i still have my 2G 8GB at home, and being busy with my wirk, i haven't check this forum or any other iphone forum for the past several months, so i don't know any thing that;s has been going on in this iphone world.

when i bought the 3G for my friends, they ask me wheter i wanted the normal iphone (locked using a kind of turbo SIM) or factory unlock, (full unlock, no need turbo SIM) and i bought thet factory unlock for my friend, so i guess the 3G is still not unlockables, is this true ?

and apart from having 3G and GPS, is there anymore diference between them ?

i've heard several people says the 3G reception is worse and battery life also very bad.

and most important;y i want to know wheter my 2G iphone can runs the same firmware as the 3G phone ?

if possible can somebody be kind enough to guide me to it ?

and also , if lets says i buy several games from apps store and later on ii decided to buy the iphone 3G, can i install it over to the new iphone or i must buy the games and apps again for the new phone ?

and what's the best firmware for now ?
for the 2G iphone ?
thx

if the 2G can't runs the same firmware then maybe i'll buy the 3G,

thank you so much and i really miss modding my iphone :p

Current iPhone 3G still cannot be unlocked via software, but you can jailbrake it.
Check here:

the 3G plastic case and its shape feels different on your hand, it is less slippery, IMHO the plastic case quality is not good yet, it is highly prone to
show hairline cracks.

i've heard several people says the 3G reception is worse and battery life also very bad.

The reception I get is OK, i live in a metro area.
The battery life sucks, barely makes it for 8 hours during my normal daily usage, phone calls, check email, browse the wbe, run some games for 30 mins, etc.

and most important;y i want to know wheter my 2G iphone can runs the same firmware as the 3G phone ?

All the features work except for the location ones that require the 'GPS precision'

Yes you can, they are realted to your itunes account, you just need to use your account on your iphones. I believe it allows you tu use the same account up to 5 iphones, but I'm not sure about this quantity.

thx for the help mate :p

so i guess is better to keep the 2G then :p

anyway can you guide me to how to upgrade my 2G to 2.1 ?

cause last time i do modding my iphone it;s only jailbreak me type,
i don;t know any other new methods.
thx.

Different SIM detected

I have a 3G 8Gb phone which has been working fine for a month with i-smartphone SIM. Havine run out of space I have bought a 16Gb 3G phone thinking that I could just transfer the Vodafone/i-smartphone combination to it. I have activated the new phone using an O2 (UK) SIM but when I swap that for the Vodafone/i-smartphone combination I get the Different SIM detected connect to itunes page whick only allows emergency calls.
Any help appreciated.

hi,
i've waded through all this, but haven't found anything that applies to my situation exactly.
I am using a 1st gen iphone, unlocked, jailbroken, running 1.0.1 . I'd like to update it, but the original procedure was so complicated that it almost made us crazy....and it's taken me over a year to even consider trying again.

Unfortunately, most of the guides i'm seeing are written for later firmware. What is the least complicated way for me to update this phone? I'm talking easy, simple, hard to mess up.

I don't recall how this phone was cracked. I have both a mac and a pc.

The modem firmware is 03.14.08_g
Thanks in advance....i'll continue digging while I await an answer.....

It doesn't matter which situation you come from. Just follow the easy to use programs and update via iTunes. iPhone hacking has now become a click here click there kind of thing.

That's because to use a Vodafone-UK SIM in a O2-UK iPhone 3G, you need to unlock it. However, I am curious though how you managed to get initially Vodafone SIM in a locked iPhone 3G...

Protip: Only other SIMs from same carrier work with locked iPhone (eg. AT&T Pay-As-You-Go SIMs work fine with an iPhone and vice-versa)

Hey
I'm in a similar situation, except I'm on version 1.0.2 and my firmware is 03.14.08_. It's a old iphone, first gen, and it was handed down to me by a friend who got the 3g. I have no idea if it was unlocked, but I know it's not jailbroken. I would like to update to whatever I can, and also be able to get apps...just have no idea how to!
I was told to just connect it to my pc, and run itunes 7.7, allow the update to the latest versoin. Then download quickpwn and follow instructions. Is it really as simple as that? I use a pc too, if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance!

New to the site

Ok, i'm new to the site and to iphone unlocking. I've searched everywhere and can not find a concrete answer so i'm posting here. I need to either revirginize or restore my 1st gen iphone back to factory settings so that it can be sent to apple to fix an issue with the screen. I successfully unlocked it when I first recieved it, but need to go back to factory settings. My current software version is 2.1 and its unlocked for tmobile. My modem firmware is 04.05.04_g. Ive read a couple different things and dont know which is true. Can I just connect my iphone to itunes and click restore there? Will that take it back to factory settings? or do i need to change the baseband and all of that?? What is the correct way to restore the 1st gen iphone running 2.1 to factory settings? Thanks.

Hit Restore in iTunes.

Well, your help is here, well technically its not help, just informing you what's currently going on.

You see, previously with 1.1.4 and 1st Gen iPhone, there were no 3rd party applications, so the method of distribution of said unauthorized apps was Installer. Lots of people liked and coded apps for Installer to distribute.

However, along came 2.0 update that brought 3rd party support and the famed App Store. Now, many developers code and bring apps to the user through the App Store. However, few developers are accepted and 3rd party apps are heavily scrutinized for unallowed code. So, 3r party developers code apps also for Cydia (the new Installer) so people can also get ahold of previously unallowed apps. However, these apps are mainly around appearance changing, emulators & ROMs, heavy bandwidth consumption apps, organization and tethering purposes.

More info? Please post...

thanks for your answer. so would you recommend me installing the jailbreak onto my iphone or jsut using the apps apple already has? is it worth the trouble?
