sorry if its already posted, but im leaving in a week for Europe

if i still have the original 1.1.4 upgrade software and the 2.0 original firmware on my mac. If i just hold shift and click restore, will i be able to downgrade to 1.1.4 that easily? i have read a bunch of thread about downgrading firmware from 2.0 to 1.1.4 and they seem like a pain to do. Will it be as simple as i think it is if i already have the two original firmwares on my mac computer.

reason i wanna downgrade is cause i was thinking about unlocking my iphone to travel overseas and am not to good with the multistep unlocks, would be a lot easier with iliberty or ziphone.

thank you in advance,

tony

Well, if you have a Mac then just use Pwnage tool. It is the easiest way to unlock any firmware [1.1.4 or 2.0.0] in 1st Gen iPhones.

You can unlock, use at Europe and then relock by Restoring your iPhone with iTunes using the stock [original .ipsw from Apple].

is it just a one click deal or do i have to perform a 30 step process just to unlock it? i dont need the jailbreaking part, just to unlock it. is there a better step by step tutorial that i can follow so i dont mess up my phone?

thank you in advance,

Tony

It's a multi-step method but the procedure is for lac of a word "Idiot proof". Sorry if I sounded harsh there, but even though its many steps you will find that the actual steps are just plain easy and fun to follow.

As for jailbreaking and unlocking, Pwnage gives you all those options. Just follow the tutorial on iClarified and you will be fine. Also, to find that tutorial, there is a link in the second post of this thread.

cheers

Jailbroken 1.1.4 (Pwnage) to Jailbroken 2.0 (Pwnage)

Jav6454,
Previously, with your sage advice and the great guides at iClarified, I was able to Jailbreak and unlock my 2g iPhone with Pwnage (1.14).

I have been out of the loop with all the hoopla for the last week or so, but wish to upgrade to unlocked-jailbroken 2.0 firmware so that I can access the applications at the Ap Store.

Can I simply follow the new iClarified 2.0 upgrade guide as written, or are there any issues that I need to be aware of with a previously jailbroken phone (i.e: reverting to the factory 1.4 firmware or something before I can begin the new jailbreak-unlock)?

Thanks again for a great thread and all of your generous assistance.

Josh

Not at all. In fact if you have previously jailbroken/unlocked and Pwned your 1st Gen iPhone with Pwnage then you will be glad to hear the new Pwnage is 100% compatible with your old pwned phone. Just follow the instructions.

Please be aware that the new Pwnage is very easy to use. You will see that it is also fun and intuitive. It also has pretty GUI to help the user out.

Thanks for the reply. Think I'll hang on a lil longer :)

oops... I seem to have run into trouble :(

I used the instructions here http://iphone.unlock.no/#recovery-restore-mode to reverginize my iPhone, as I was running unlocked firmware 1.0.2. Then I restored 1.1.1. Now I try to jailbreak and nothing happens. It just goes back to activate screen. Someone please help.

I seem to have messed up the original AT&T sim. It gives me No Sim when inserted. So I'm trying with a different network sim.

Edit: I can see that version is 1.1.1 (3A109a) and Firmware is 04.01.13_G. Should I just upgrade to 1.1.2 and use zipphone?

Upgradde all the way to 1.1.4 and use Pwnage or WinPwn on that. Much easier to jailbreak/unlock.

Thanks for the quick response jav... I upgraded to 1.1.2 and used zip phone. Seems to have worked. I'm able to use it on my local network! Couple of queries:

1) All the pictures in the camera roll have dissapeared. Should I have backed it up? Anyhow, this is not a big deal as I have the good one's backed up.

2) I'm able to call contacts, but when I dial a number from the keypad, it just returns back to home screen. If you have any idea about this, please do mention.

3) SMS crashes!

Regarding point 2 and 3, I'm planning to upgrade to 2.0 and unlock later today, so the problems might be solved regardless, but still curious as to why this has happened.

Edit: Would it be a good idea to fix these problems before going to 2.0?

I'm in some serious mess now :)

This is my situation.

I was running 1.0.2. I upgraded to 1.1.1 after reverginizing. But I'm unable to activate the phone with appsnapp. It just goes back to the home screen and nothing happens.

I decided to go 1.1.2 and use zip phone. It worked. I had an unlocked phone running my local carrier sim. But I ran into dialpad and sms crash trouble. I googled a bit and found out that this problem occurs if the iPhone has not yet been released in my country. (http://code.google.com/p/iphone-elite/wiki/fix_crashing_phone_sms_apps). This fix looks a bit too complicated for me, so I have held off going any further.

Now my options are, go to 1.1.4, unlock with pwnage and hope this problem does not occur, or downgrade back to 1.0.2 and unlock. Someone help me out please :)

I already suggested that you update to 1.1.4 and use Pwnage. Believe me, that approach is much easier.

the idiot proof plan lost this idiot

I have an old iphone..a 4gb. It was unlocked when I bought it. I downloaded an audioamp file to enhance the sound volume and the phone crashed. Looked like a computer crashing back to dos. So I resored it to factory settings now on 2.0. I wanted to re-unlock the phone so I followed everything the way it was supposed to however when I restore the iphone with itunes it says it can't due to error 6.....what is going on here??:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
some help would be greatly appreciated

Error 6 is due to iTunes Restoring using Restore Mode, be sure to be in DFU to be able to complete the process.

Post back if you still carry problems.

"Wrong firmware bundle selected"

I'm trying to update my 1st gen iPhone using the pwnage tool and 2.0 firmware as linked above.

When I search for the firmware, I always get "Wrong firmware bundle selected".

what am I doing wrong. Please help.

yes jav... i hear ya :)

Just a little concerned if 'dialpad and sms crash trouble' will resurface on 1.1.4. This problem occurs only in those countries where iPhone is not yet released (something to do with number formatting!). Anyway right now I'm back on a reverginized 1.0.2 up and running. I will dig around for some more information and try to get on 1.1.4 next weekend. Cheers.

ok so now I figured out how to set it up for the firmware but its not unlocking anything.....the iphone still isn't accepting the sim.....help?

The SMS and Phone app crash only in 1.1.2 because of unsupoorted countries issues. However, that bug is gone from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4. In these recent firmwares, you only get mismatched incoming and outgoing numbers. [In other words, numbers not in the correct format as your country's]. There are fixes for that in the name of AppSupport Patch (1.1.x) [x meaning the version of firmware]. As of right now there is no patch for 2.0.0 so you just might to stay at 1.1.4 to get full compatibility.

ok maybe stupid question whats the difference and how do I put the phone in dfu mode?

DFU mode is achieved by having the phone connected to iTunes and turning it off. Then hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home button for exactly 10 secs. Let go the Sleep/Wake Button after 10 secs and continue to hold the Home button for another 10 secs and then let go. You should get black screen and iTunes telling you to Restore the phone.

Did you check the correct unlocking options in WinPwn or Pwnage. Remember you must tick on "Enable Baseband update" and have the Bootloader Neutered. You also have to have the correct Bootloader files.

wel the only thing I am not sure of is the bootloader files.....can you help me with getting those....I think I got it right but not 100% sure

The iClarified tutorial has links to the Bootloader files you need. Just read the top part of the tutorial before going through the whole thing.

It helps if you read the tutorial first then do it.

hey man thanks alot I really appreciate the help...can you tell me how to get the installer in my iphone...I just have Cydia....

Installer is still not yet available for jailbroken devices running 2.0 as Installer has to be update to run smoothly in 2.0.

The only current application to get more applications from sources outside the AppStore is Cydia.

However, RIP Dev, the developers of Installer, have announced that pretty 'soon' Installer will be available with a revamped GUI and frameworks.

Just have a little more patience.

New old iPhone

This guide is tremendous. I would totally be lost without it. I do have a critical question for me however. I just picked up a used 8gb model today and it currently has 1.1.4 on it. Should I first upgrade the software to 2.0 and then unlock (I plan to use T-Mobile) using the Iclarified guide. Or should I unlock it while I have 1.1.4 and then upgrade to 2.0 once I have successfully unlocked. Is one way more practical than the other?

Also does the sim card need to be in before I connect and go through the process?

If I can upgrade to 2.0 eventually, I don't expect I will need to jailbreak, but is it something I can go back and do later, or do I need to jailbreak and unlock at the same time?

thanks for your patience

Kory

No, first if its unlocked (to use in T-Mobile), you must check by which method the phone was unlocked (iLiberty, iPlus, ZiPhone or Pwnage).

If the tool used was not Pwnage (or WinPwn), then you have to use that first to get a pwned 1.1.4.

General Steps:
1. Find out which tool was used
2. If tool was not Pwnage, then Restore to 1.1.4 using iTunes
3. Pwn using Pwnage
4. Install custom 1.1.4 firmware which is unlocked + jailbroken
5. Create custom 2.0 software
6. Install and you are set to go with a pwned, unlocked and jailbroken iPhone in 2.0

As per jailbreaking, you may want to jailbreak but it is not necessary. BootNeuter runs to unlock [after first start-up] your iPhone once and the lock state stays. Jailbreak only lets you install apps not approved by Apple into the iPhone.
