Hi, this is my first post here so let me just say, thanks so much for all the advice in the guides at the beginning of this thread! I can confirm I have just successfully rolled back a first generation 2g 8gb iPhone from 2.0 to 1.1.4and also successfully completely unlocked and Jailbroken it. I am using it now, totally faultlessly on Vodafone UK, and installing apps at will! Also, I noticed you have no link for iTunes 7.5 anywhere there, but I found it here -

A further tip for anyone wanting to use one on Vodafone, to set the iPhone up to use EDGE so you don't need Wifi to get it online, go to Settings > General > Network > EDGE > Then enter the APN as 'internet' without the quote marks of course, and leave the username and password blank. You will now be able to access the internet using EDGE/Gprs or whatever it is heh.
Some things I found during the rollback and hack. I followed the first steps, putting the iPhone in DFU restore mode, then attempting the roll back using iTunes 7.5 will the error, then I followed the iClarified guide to using WinPwn, but the first time it couldn't get the iPhone out of restore more (neither could iLiberty), so I had to unplug it, plug it in again then attempt the rollback using iTunes again. This time it worked, I followed the WinPwn guide and on the very final step, using iTunes to restore it with the custom firmware, iTunes errored at the end. This meant I had to use iLiberty to boot the iPhone from restore mode. The BootNeuter ran, as WinPwn had set it too. That to my delight was successful.
Then it all worked perfectly, however, when I turned it off and turned it on again, it gave the sim card error. So, I ran a full iLiberty unlock and jailbreak on it. Now it's 100% perfect, works with no problems what so ever, doesn't matter if I turn it off etc, and I couldn't be more happy
So once again, thankyou so much for the guides, and to everyone else, if I can do it, anyone can hehe! For anyone new to this though, I would recommend only using WinPwn and iLiberty as a lot of the other Jailbreak programs permantently alter the iPhone, which is bad if something goes wrong.
Now if I could just find a Usenet app, a way of getting delivery reports, and an MMS app that didn't have to be paid for...
