Ok, that is a weird problem. Please specify more what you did, how you did, what OS you are running.

Anything specific can help me determine what went wrong.

well, i just reinstalled 7.7 on my mac, and am restoring my iPhone
after that i am going to go on my windows laptop, and then just do the sleepers.net process again because they used a windows os to do it.

Quick question.. I'm following the guide posted on http://sleepers.net/news/?page_id=216 but when ever I try to restore my iPhone using iTunes 7.5, I get some error that says "Software for this iPhone is not currently available. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and try again." At this point, I have no idea what to do.

I've shift clicked 'restore' and selected the 1.1.4 version I downloaded, but that doesn't work either.

I am having the same problem...anyone???

well, i just reinstalled 7.7 on my mac, and am restoring my iPod.

after that i am going to go on my windows laptop, and then just do the sleepers.net process again because they used a windows os to do it.

Ok, is it an iPod or iPhone?

Anyway, use iTunes 7.6 to do the downgrade an iPhone. As per iPod Touch, I don't know exactly the mechanics for those.

iPhone 2g w/ 2.0. Need to jailbreak/unlock to use AT&T sim?

Great Thread Jav6454.
I have just purchased a 2g iPhone that has been upgraded to the 2.0 software. I have AT&T and (stupidly?) assumed that I would just be able to insert my existing sim into the iPhone, like any other phone, and be ready to go.

Now, after doing some reading it seem that this is not the case, and I will have to unlock the iPhone to work with my sim, even though I am with AT&T and not another carrier.

My question is this: can a original, 2G iPhone be safely unlocked/jailbroken if it has the 2.0 iPhone software? Will the new pnwnage 2.0 tools coming down the pike be able to unlock a 2g iPhone that already has the 2.o software installed?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Josh

I am not sure why this has worked, but maybe someone can explain it to me...

I received two gen 1 iphones from my brother (16gb, 4gb). I was able to download 2.0 on the 16gb without any issues without an AT&T account. I bricked the 4gb when trying the same thing. I think the reason is that I had a preactivated sim card in the 16gb so itunes didn't care, but the 4gb had the new 3g sim card in it because my brother needed the old one.

My main question is...If I get this 4gb back to the original 1.1.4 can I install my sim card that has been previously registered and download 2.0? I haven't had to use the sim card in the 16gb anymore as it all works perfectly without it in it.

Thanks!

A 2.0 1st Gen iPhone can be jailbroken/unlocked with current tools. But to do that first you have to go back down to 1.1.4. Then, you have to wait for the new Pwnage or WinPwn to be out.

I am not sure why this has worked, but maybe someone can explain it to me...

If you upgraded the 4GB iPhone to 2.0, then it is recommended you go back down to 1.1.4 and use Pwnage/WinPwn again.

i know? is it 7.5 or 7.6?

it never ended up working for me in 7.5 i got the 1600 error, so i just had to put it into restore mode again and update to 2.0

I answered wrongly the first time and said 7.6, sorry bout that. The correct version is 7.5. That's what BigBoss says you have to use.

I deleted 7.7 entirely then restarted the mac. Once it booted up I downloaded 7.5 (I have done this twice now) every time I get the iPhone in restore mode and connect to iTunes (tells me I need to restore so I say ok) then I click on restore and it says that I don't have the most recent version of iTunes. I believe the guy above is having the same issue. Are we missing something? :(

Okay this time it at least went looking for the software, but then it came up with an error (no error number...where do you get that?) that said there was no software to support this iPhone. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes. It could just be that that is one of the proper error codes you discussed, but I don't know where to find that. I am 100% new to hacking...damn beginners I know

heyy, i keep getting error 1602 on my iTouch, it tells me to restore it in iTunes cause it's in DFU mode but i keep getting that error! help me please and thanks!

jav6454 is this the answer from bigboss?

Note for OSX users:
If you are on OSX and want to attempt to downgrade your iTunes, you can try these steps:

Load up Terminal and type the following:
killall iTunesHelper
sudo -s
rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app
rm -r /Library/Receipts/iTunesX.pkg
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes*
rm -r /Applications/iTunes.app
rm -r /Library/Receipts/iTunesX.pkg
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes*
rm -r /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework

Mmm, not that I can be aware off. I do however think its because of the difference in OS. BigBoss might have written the steps while using a Windows paced computer. Mac OS X steps might be different.

That's why I say I can't confirm these steps as I haven't done them personally, but I trust in BigBoss

I'm guessing you are using a Mac. Mac steps are different. You can see my response above.

These steps are for iPhone only. Please don't try to use them on iPod Touch as they are way different.

If it was posted by him, then yes, those are the steps for Mac OS X written by BigBoss.

Reminder: I haven't done these steps on my iPhone; however, BigBoss is a respected source and that's why I have the steps included here. However, people must note that these steps are Windows based [at least I have come to that conclusion] and BigBoss has written some steps for Mac based.

In many cases the errors [160x] are due to USB connectivity. So it is recommended you use another USB port or simply restart your computer.

Furthermore, these steps are for iPhone users only and 1st Generation iPhone only.

Cheers jav6454! Almost done, just need to use a computer that doesn't have iTunes on it yet or find a way to killall iTunesHelper!! I've tried and can't find how to turn off ituneshelper so I can delete it.

Thanks for answering my questions!!

Thanks Jav6454. Per your suggestion, and with the great tutorials on iclarified, brought iphone down to 1.1.4 and itunes to 7.5. No problems. I then started the unlocking process with Pwnage. Problems.

I get all the way to the to the "ipwner button" step with no issues. But when the "Pwning" begins it says: "sucessfully started pwning on your iphone/ipod"

But nothing else happens. The "dock+itunes" recovery mode logo stays on the iphone - no white scrolling "firmware" text that as shown in the videos. no reboot. nothing. 3o minutes and counting and no change. Same with 2nd attempt.

Help. What could be the issue here? Thanks in advance for all of your assistance.

Regards,
Josh

UPDATE: After going back and reloading the 1.1.4 again it appears to be working. Will update later. Thanks!

Ok, first of all, iPhone has to be in Restore mode, but I can read you do have that so, try rebooting your computer, sometimes USB ports get cluttered and rebooting helps clean em out.

Sorry, right now, there is no way to jailbreak/unlock 2.0 software for iPhone 1st Gen.

However, the Dev Team has announced they have the software ready for that [Pwnage], but it hasn't been released yet. Just be patient, soon you will be able to jailbreak that 2.0 software.

Just one clarification

Revirginizing -
If you attempt to upgrade an unlocked 1.0.2 to 1.1.1, your phone gets damaged and the baseband becomes bricked.

I'm on 1.0.2 now (unlocked). Do I need to reverginize before upgrading to 2.0? Also any experiences on upgrading from 1.0.2 to 2.0?

because when we restore a firmware we have to activate again and for example pwnage 2.0 will be able to JB and activate iPhone 3G, and in your first post it says:

If you hacktivate your iPhone, it becomes an iPod touch with camera and bluetooth, only unlocking it will turn it back into an iPhone ;P

does that mean that if i JB my iphone 3G it will then become an ipod touch with cam and bluetooth?
because i dont want that to happen, as i am on o2 in UK so i dont need an unlocker

thanks in advance

iPhone 3G is not supported yet. Please dont try any tricks found in this guide on an iPhone 3G

I haven't had a case from a 1.0.2 to 2.0. but I know you want that new 2.0.0. So revirginize 1.0.2 go to 1.1.1 then update to 1.1.4 jailbreak that and unlock/activate using Pwnage or WinPwn. Then wait until the official 2.0.0 unlock/jailbreak is released by the Dev Team. That's my advice.

General Unlock Help Needed!

Hello! So I took my phone that was locked to ATT and did the one-touch click to unlock, jailbreak, and activate, my phone with ziphone. (My phone was already activated with ATT but I was selling it unlocked.) A few days later I get a call saying that a Rogers sim card doesn't work. (My ATT sim card worked in it and the installer app was on the home screen.) So I had them try to just unlock it again with ziphone...this time on a pc and they got a success message but still cannot use their sim card. So I am not sure what to do!

Should I have them try another program like iLiberty+ or maybe the best way to fix the issue is to just have them restore the phone back to 1.1.4 factory firmware and then use WinPwn to unlock it all over again?

Once the phone is in restore mode and they download the 1.1.4 firmware how do they install it in the phone? I'd really appreciate the help as this has been driving me nuts for the last few days! Thanks!

First off, you are not to use ZiPhone never, it is HIGHLY dangerous and many times can screw up to the point of not working.

Anyways, use the tools described in this FAQ [Pwnage for Mac or WinPwn for Windows] to try and unlock the phone. In any case, tell the person who got the phone to send it back to you so you can do the appropriate modifications as seller.
