I've been using my wife's iMac while I'm waiting for the Mac Pro. I haven't had any real dramas with the slot loading dvd. Just wondering why most people don't like the slot loading. I don't think I'd be bothered either way, just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this if it comes in the new mac pro?

Slower, less reliable, more expensive, don't support non-standard media sizes and shapes.

I'm not necessarily selling my machine to get one of the new ones (my only interest is a new GPU for my machine), but if they did something asinine like use slot load drives, I'd have to hope I could dremel out the front to use non-stupid models.

Why do I have a hard time believing this from Engadget on tomorrow's rumored updates?

well, with apple stores closing a half hour ago on the east coast and employees getting home around now, there should be a good night of rumors coming in if we're really going to see anything of interest tomorrow.

:: a pin drops. the echo rings out. ::

oh well.

A word of warning:

The final month may be upon us, but be ready for a Mac Pro with MacBook Air internals. These updates always seem to underwhelm.

I don't think we'll be seeing the new Mac Pro tomorrow. It'll hopefully ride along a couple weeks after the iMac and Mac Mini have dominated the spotlight....just like the 17" MBP.

Yea, I agree. Its probably imacs and mac mini most likely and maybe 30" LED ACDs as the surprise.

The Nehalem Xeons don't officially launch until March 29th . I think the March 24th date for the Mac pro unveiling is right on the money. If my memory serves, when the original mac pro was unveiled, it used chips that intel would officially release a week later. I can see that happening again. What I can't see is Apple using chips nearly a month before release. Or, for that matter, releasing updates for 3 desktop lines without an event. I can see maybe something happening tomorrow, but nothing major like an architecture change for the Mac Pro.

anybody want to start a pool for the date of the first MP received?

I'll optimistically venture a guess of the first tuesday in april.

I don't remember the original Mac Pro launch, but the Early 2008 model was able to be purchased in stores within a week, but custom BTO options (Especially with the 8800GT) didn't arrive on doorsteps until late February with the MacBook Air. I think the same will happen this time around.

I've been able to confirm these specs/part numbers

MB535LL/A - MAC PRO 2.26_8CX/6X1G/640/GT120/SD-USA
MB871LLA - MAC PRO 2.66QCX/3X1GB/640/GT120/SD-USA

Looks like it's true. Can anyone give a good interpretation of the parts though?

I can confirm those. It's all self explanatory. 2.26 8 core, 6 1GB DIMMs, 640GB HDD, GT120 video card, superdrive.

So two 4-core 2.26Ghz processors? A Low end Mac Pro?
