He won't be doing good around here any more – Liverpool recalled him from his loan this lunchtime, clearly favouring him to sit on their bench rather than ours.

Is he even fit? Last I heard he was injured, and you are starting Vito Mannone in goal these days. I'm praying that Jones puts in a career performance this weekend. If it comes to penalties we'll be facing Timmy Howard, and he's no slouch.

Feel bad for Wigan, playing better than most of the sides around them but keep getting robbed by dodgy decisions. Penalty shout for Utd but I suppose it's evened out with the disallowed goal.

EDIT: Oh...is that the title race back on then.

On another note, job done. 5pts clear, clean sheet, and RVP scored. Although I'm actually wary of playing Wigan now. Look hard to beat at the moment without pure luck.

After being repeatedly shafted this season, Wigan finally get a result against a big side after earning it with good football. I whine about Liverpool losing, but at least it usually happens because we played badly. Wigan play well and lose, and that is far harder for a supporter to take.

Maybe Man U will suffer a late collapse for once? The title is still theirs to lose, but it looks like it will take longer both here and in Spain to find out who the champions will be.

He is, or at least fit enough to be on the bench.

He last played on New Years Eve and hasn't impressed during his time with us, hence the move for Mannone. He started out the season as our first choice custodian, but has never looked particularly confident and has an alarming tendency to flap – his last appearance saw him limp off against Burnley following a blunder.

Still, he knows how to handle an Easter egg.

You're not making me feel any better. Here's hoping we don't need him.

EDIT: Athletico Madrid just equalized against Real. Can it happen!!??

No shocker there. Ronaldo really carries Real at times like this. They cannot afford to drop any more points outside the Clasico (which I still think they will lose) if they want to win the title.

4 points inside of five days... sadly it could have been 6.. =(

Was the title race off? 5 points is no guarantee for any club. ;)

Disallowed goal; Caldwell clearly blocks De Gea. Two penalty shouts - handball and a pull on Welbeck, and the corner/goal kick - still had the opportunity to defend it. I'd be angry if they'd played well. Performance over the previous few games pointed to the result last night; a sluggish Manchester United versus a zippy, hardworking Wigan Athletic due some luck. If only Manchester United had a 4th forward they could call on. I don't think Scholes would've made much difference; closed down and less energy these days. From a partisan point of view, I'm hacked off with the effort, from a footballing stance, I'm pleased for Wigan - if they can get an on form striker and sort Moses' decision making ...

One bit of good news from yesterday, RVP didn't bag 7 ;)

And Comolli has gone.

Cheers,
OW

Comolli is taking the fall for Carroll and the other failed signings, plain and simple. But Dalglish has taken responsibility for choosing the targets. If that's true, it does not bode well for the future unless another DoF is brought in who calls the shots for Kenny on new signings.

Yes, surely all is well now!

Of course, if we actually manage to win the FA Cup, and if we improve next season and finish in the CL spots (and/or win the Europa League or another FA Cup), all people will remember of this campaign is that King Kenny returned and won a cup double in his first full season. Which makes things sound so much rosie than they are.

Either this video of Joey Barton visiting the National Portrait Gallery was scripted, or Barton is Carl Pilkington's long-lost brother. Comedy Gold! :D

In the Observer next week – Wayne Rooney on Keats.

Joey Barton at the National Portrait Gallery said:
See, that sold for millions that. That went for 30-odd... 35 million? There's a lot of better ways to spend...

And you know who bought that painting? Roman Abramovich! :D I think Carroll is just the man Chelsea need to replace Torres...or maybe Liverpool can sell Roman a fake Lucien Freud portrait of Carroll...

I had to watch the video twice, it's just too funny.
