On the subject of England's new away shirt, David Haye was reckoned to be wearing the polyester rag last night as he entered the ring to face Wladimir Klitschko the big heavyweight unification boxing match.

Anyway, Haye lost the match in question so the new shirt has already got a losing record, even before it's been worn in a football match. Pah.

The Womens' World Cup picks up steam. Did anyone catch the Brazil-Norway match today? Marta put on a pretty impressive performance. The first goal should have been disallowed for her foul on the defender, but one can't fault her touch and ball-handling skills.

I'm hoping we beat Sweden in the final group match so that we don't have to play Brazil in the first knockout stage.

In other words, don't wear it to a casino.

The shirt will be worn at next year's European Championships in Poland/Ukraine, assuming we qualify of course. By wearing it as he prepared to face Klitschko, Haye was just preparing us for Eastern Europe-based disappointment in 2012. ;)

At least we have the Copa America to watch during the pre-season.

And the womens championship. There is some unique quality to watching women, I can enjoy their slower games, they seem like one person can do much more than in mens games.

Breaking news from the BBC
1749: Manchester City have confirmed the signing of defender Gael Clichy from Arsenal.

I guess Kieren Gibbs just made the first team :)

I think there's a greater gap in quality in the womens' game, though that seems to be slowly closing. But at the moment the best players and national teams are miles better than the rest of the field. It's definitely a different style of play from the mens' game in some ways.

What is Arsene going to do with his big war chest? That's the question now.

City is becoming the Arsenal old boys club. Toure, Viera, Clichy, Adebayor.

I fear for Arsenal and their fans. As it stands that team has gotten even weaker (assuming Nasri & Cesc leave) instead of stronger and a top 4 finish this coming season is far from guaranteed.

Clichy cited Patrick Vieira as been an influence on his decision to move...

"When I first came to England, it was Kolo Toure and Patrick Vieira who took me under their wing and really looked after me... Patrick was always there to offer me advice so it's wonderful to be back and at the same club."

Clearly no one's told young Gael that Manchester City released Vieira last month. :D

Rebuild his side around Wilshire and Ramsey, ask for patience, and hope that his team deliver in a few seasons.

Can't help but think, if Arsenal are to set about rebuilding a new team, perhaps someone other than Wenger should do it?

Btw, how is everyone? Long time, no post, hope all is well.

Under-17 World Cup – England knocked out by Germany, so good experience for our youngsters in their fledgling international careers. :p

The young Germans were technically better (unsurprisingly) and moved into a 3-0 lead, England to their credit kept plugging away and brought it back to 3-2 – and my the Germans looked rattled. Anyway, I found it entertaining.

Also caught a bit of MLS earlier, and got to see erstwhile Tiger Caleb Folan complaining at his team mates that the ball wasn't played into him as often as he'd have liked. Peru vs Paraguay now in the Copa America, I'm very disappointed though that Peru aren't sporting their famous sash shirts. Boo!

The only MLS match I was able to watch was a rebroadcast of the entertaining 2-2 draw between DC United and Philly. The Crew fell 2-0 to Houston on the road. Same old inconsistency...

Peru just doesn't look right without the sashes. Brazil and Argentina both off to slow starts in the Copa America.

I'm unsurprisingly comfortable with that. :D

So it turns out I'm going to be in Munich for the Audi Cup 2011 where Bayern Munich is playing AC Milan at Allianz Arena and it's something I definitely want to see. How should I go about purchasing tickets? I've googled things and I just don't know whether certain sites are legitimate. For the people who have purchased tickets in Europe, is there a site that is well-known and is used a lot where I can buy tickets to this match?

Thanks!

I would have thought that you could get tickets from either Bayern Munich's site or that of the Allianz Arena itself?

EDIT: The Audi Cup has a link here in the Bayern Munich site, which downloads a PDF – albeit one in German. Tickets for the AC Milan match are priced between €18-60 depending on where you sit. There's an email address for their ticket office listed – tickets@fcb.de – and I'd be surprised if they can't help you via that.

On the subject of Bayern, Dietmar Hamann used to play for them – and it just so happens that he's today been appointed manager of Queso's Stockport County.

Rangers have managed to tie up goalkeeper Allan McGregor in a 6 year deal (he's age 29). You'd think I'd be happy but it actually puzzles me a little, only 6 months ago he was being linked with a move to Man Utd, now he signs a deal to take him up to the twilight of his career. Not sure if this shows a total lack of ambition from McGregor, or that pundits have over-estimated his skill level.

It's just a guess, but perhaps Man Utd are interested in younger keepers. They could conceivably get 20 years out of David de Gea, though by the same logic a 29 year-old keeper could easily have ten years of top-level football left in him.

He's supposedly only 25, but he looks over 40. The English Kanu?

I don' know why, but I just don't have a rgeat deal of confidence that it's a great move for Liverpool. He'll make a decent squad player but will he accept that role? Here's hoping he proves me wrong and becomes the next Benayoun. Haven't heard how much he actually cost either.
