It was mentioned in the local rag on Wednesday.

There have been no updates since but Baggie's striker Simon Cox sounds impressed. :)

he has never heard of him but is impressed ? :roll eyes:

seriously though he would be a great manager to sign ... after all he refused job offers from RSC Anderlecht and Besiktas Istanbul. He is known in Germany for his great tactical knowledge and favors a fast attacking style of play. He really infused this offensive spirit into the squads he coached (see current Schalke 04 or Hoffenheim)

When Jürgen Klinsmann took his job as manager of the german national squad Rangnick was his first choice as a assistant-coach ... he declined and his second choice Joachim Löw got the job...

I doubt if Rangnick has heard of Simon Cox either. :D

We'll have two ex-Bundesliga managers in the Black Country if he does take the job.

Off topic a bit, but I think I saw Simon Cox play for Reading vs Tottenham in the FA Cup. :p
One of only two competitive appearances he made for Reading, I think.

So the Dutch put 6 past the N. Ireland and the Portuguese lose 3-1 to the Turks. A fair few seem to be struggling in the build up to Euros in one way or another. Germans and Italians are two additional names that come to mind.

Looks like Liverpool has lost Dirk Kuyt to Fenerbahce.

Dirk Kuyt was a great servant of the club. He will be missed. He never worked out as a striker but his work rate was legendary and I thought he made an excellent wide player. He was over 30 though, and Dalglish never rated him.

Been so busy lately I haven't had time to digest the Rogers appointment but I'm interested to see what he does next.

Rumor is he is looking to bring Sigurdsson over from Swansea if they fail to secure him permanently.

As for Euros, Cahill joins the injury squad meanwhile Woy still refuses to call up Ferdy and instead picks Kelly. Ferdy is nonplussed.

Ferdinand seems to have forgotten that being asked to represent your country is an honour, not a right.

If a player's past number of caps – and being a former captain – were the key consideration we'd have Beckham in the squad.

I know, I know plenty of threads about the Euro. I wanted to see it like this. Interesting perspective to me when displayed like this.

If Hulk's performance against the USA is any guide, Chelsea have found an excellent replacement for Drogba in the diving department. Almost a 1:1 really - very big, very strong, but falls down quite easily. Just wait till that proverbial evening in Stoke...

Maybe I'm reading too much into things, but to me it seems that Richards, Ferdinand and Carrick's reactions to not being called up are symptomatic of the bad attitude that has been pervading the England squad up to this point. The press aid and abet this situation by characterizing Hodgson's decisions as 'snubs'.

Any player with this attitude, regardless of their value on the pitch, ought not to be selected. Period. I really think some England players feel their spot on the squad is a birthright.

Six Liverpool players in the England squad for the tournament now.

So Chelsea have spent £76.5m in the transfer window already with Hazard's move completed and Hulk's to follow shortly.

Hulk = £38m
Hazard = £32m
Marin = £6.5m

Will likely play a 4-2-3-1 formation next season. Hazard and Hulk flanking Torres and Mata behind. Marin and Ramires/Mikel sit in midfield.

I think Hulk and Hazard are a tad overpriced...especially Hulk. Watched him play for Port. Good player but not £38m good IMHO. But we'll see.

He sounds overpriced to me too. But When you are selling Sheikh Mansour or Roman Abramovich a player, it makes sense to pump them for as much cash as you can. They both seem willing to overpay. I will laugh if he turns out to be the Brazilian Andy Carroll. :D

Speaking from the standpoint of a Liverpool supporter, the Premier League is looking even more like a two-horse race now. Only Chelsea can realistically match Man City's spending. Man U have shown no signs of trying to play that game for the present. They can still attract top talent but in financial terms Chelsea and Man City can always outbid them now, and I don't see that changing under the Glazers.

I guess that leaves Liverpool clearly on the outside looking in. A 3rd-5th place finish will only be possible if we play a lot better next season.

wait .... what ? Hulk overpriced at 38 mil ? i agree with Hazard having to show something for the money but Hulk had 2 great seasons in row now
What makes him special is that for a Brazilian he is extremely physical, and has a great acceleration ability (and a extremely powerful shot)

IMHO one of the best (inverted) wingers on the right side of the pitch

Just think about it that way:
Chelsea payed 76 for Hulk, Hazard and Marin

Liverpool bought Carroll,Downing and Henderson for 72(!) mil

i agree Chelsea will continue to play a 4-2-3-1.. their squad seems to be excellent fitted for such a system now: Torres up front, Mata behind in the central free flowing attacking , hulk on the right and Hazard on the left with Marin as a replacement winger for both sides to shift things around

or perhaps even play hazard in a central midfield role and marin on the left wing but that would be too offensive for my taste

Phil Jagielka fears Fellaini might be a target for transfer this summer. As an Everton supporter this kind of worries me knowing that Kenwright is hard up for cash and will move Fellaini if the price is right.

Everton seems to do this ever summer transfer window, sell for some cash but then once stuff hits the fan they make a huge push in January to stay a float. If only this attitude was practiced year round I have no doubts that Everton could be a solid top 6 team year in year out.

Anyone have the transcripts of the calls? Did Hodgson ring? What did the players say? Taking reports of the players' reactions as gospel? How much shaping by the Press? Long-serving players deserve a proper explanation, not BS. If Ferdinand received one, fair enough, if not, it is right to seek one, and shame on Hodgson and the FA. Carrick? Full cap 2001. Wheeling out player 'X' to spout on about the honour, great for them. The experience of those on the Press' 'Snubs' bench , may be different; remember they started out, like the majority of us - who'll never play professional football, let alone reach International level, wondering how anyone could turn down being even the smallest part of it.

Six Liverpool players; waiting for 'Slimer' Spearing to replace an injured Parker. Come on France.:)

Cheers,

I still think it's crazy money, but hey, if that's what the market can support...he's definitely a talented player, and anyone getting starts for Brazil is a major prospect.

Ferdinand has made remarks on Twitter and his agent has made statements that Ferdinand has not distanced himself from; it is therefore fair to lay those statements at his door and not that of the press.

I don't know what reasoning Hodgson has for choosing Kelly over Ferdinand; the obvious assumption is that Hodgson has decided that Terry and Ferdinand cannot be counted on to play together, and he has chosen Terry over Ferdinand.

Hodgson could be managing this much better on the PR side, but it's Ferdinand's choice whether to wage a media war against Hodgson/The FA for being left out. I don't really see how it's going to have a positive outcome for anyone.

And now we have this:

The Guardian said:
"Rio is very angry and he feels that every black player in Britain, every black fan and everyone in the black community has been insulted by this," the source said.

This is ugly stuff. It's only going to go downhill at this point, to the detriment of England.

Lord Blackadder - Ferdinand,

If Hodgson fed him the same 'football reasons' BS, then he is right to ask for a proper explanation - gather he's mentioned it on ****ter. Being left out is one thing, the crap from the manager/FA is another.

The agent is correct if all they have is the same Hodgson/FA line given to us mortals.

Asking a question and the agent's statement is hardly waging a media war. Hodgson and the FA chose to create a stench. Re the Press; Ferdinand is still subject to their 'a close source said'/'someone in the know'. Richards and Carrick?

Even without Ferdinand being there, it sounds like the squad divided the moment Terry was included - that's going by the media :D.

daneoni,

Fingers crossed it gets wrapped up. From clips and some ECL, it looks like he can finish, dribble, and knows where his teammates are.

Cheers,
OW

Indeed, as much as I too wouldn't have included Ferdinand in the squad (Richards I would have though) has he actually said anything publicly, or is it still through an agent/source?

Good point LB about him not distancing himself from these comments, but then does he want to get into a public disagreement with his agent?

It's also interesting to see some of the same people supporting Ferdinand and Carrick are the same ones, who not too long ago, were complaining about the lack of youth in the England squad...

The new crest is bloody awful as well, looks like they splashed out on a new clip art CD.

This colour change was mooted earlier in the summer, as the article says though following a backlash from supporters it had been announced that they'd be sticking with blue. It seems that it doesn't take long to renege on a promise these days.

Happybunny – I wouldn't pay much heed to our press, we don't. They're probably of the mind that there are only seven good players in the whole of the Dutch squad, namely the six who play in the Premier League and the one Manchester United are supposed to be trying to buy. ;)
