are you actually a sons fan, or simply a fan of all scottish football? some other side? and do i know this already and simply forgotten...? i admit i'm a little embarrassed that i don't know this info.. ;)

I'm Scotland national team first, Rangers second and then Scottish football in general. I've got quite a pragmatic view about it, in this city you are either blue or green, I'm not interested in any bigotry or sectarian nonsense, I grew up in a mixed religion house. For that reason I stay away from Old Firm websites which are just breeding grounds of vile (by minorities I may add), and other Scottish football websites which basically tell the Old Firm to GTF.

I have been subjected to attacks by bigots on Twitter just for expressing my pacifist opinions, so quite happy to lurk around here!

It's amazing to me how many people don't know the difference between real hate and "sports hate". You can "hate" your team's rival without really hating that team or its fans. It's a fun outlet for channeling hostility toward something that's relatively benign and pointless. Seems pretty simple, but so many people confuse it for real hostility.

good point.

but we don't know the context, or the particular incident he was referring to. and if you've ever posted at pie&bovril or other less policed boards folks can be pretty brutal. and with those teams he mentioned it can be very heated, political and racist.

You should come to the West of Scotland! It was somebody who picked up that I was a Rangers fan (despite my support of Neil Lennon during the letter bomb incidents) therefore I must be a Protestant, supported William of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne, my mother conceived me illegitimately, all highly relevant stuff to the game of football (and wrong on each count)!

I know what you are saying above though, I try to support my team rather than criticise the other teams. I sometimes think Rangers/Celtic fans know more about each other’s teams than they do their own!

I'm speaking generally, of course. I remember the first description of the rivalry that I ever encountered and it threw me for a loop. It makes you feel certain that these people would be brutalizing each other for some other reason if football wasn't available.

It sounds like he wasn't the smartest guy you've ever met.

And I actually know what you mean about hating the other team more than loving their own. There are several rivalries here in North American sports that are quite one-sided, where the perennial losers know they won't win and root for their rival to lose instead.

It feels good to finally beat Stoke, spearheaded by a sharp and clinical Suarez.

Columbus are fighting for their lives in the wild card single elimination playoff tonight. In addition to getting beaten in Chicago, other results have gone against us. We now play away in Colorado tonight. Playoff success is looking increasingly unlikely. Hopefully we find some form tonight.

Carlisle 3-2 Wednesday though :(

And what happened to the Jaffatar, looks like he's been pelted with oranges (jaffa ones, I expect :) )

I just finished watching Arsenal v. Chelsea on ESPN2 and let's just say that Chelsea's play was "worrying," to say the least.

Think it's time for a few of their players to have their boots taken away from them, as they seem to be intent on avoiding the dignified route of hanging them up on their own.

On a side note, Robin Van Persie is the only reason Arsenal are not rooted to the foot of the table. Off to Man City (no doubt) next year unless Arsenal spend heavily in January (ha).

A rare loss for the mighty Tranmere Rovers this afternoon, still in 7th place, only 2 points from 4th. Not bad for a team who last season just escaped relegation!
You lost to Sc*nthorpe.

That's right, Sc*nthorpe. Please take a moment to think about that.

Sc*nthorpe.

;)

Anyway, how's Ian Goodison doing these days? I hope you're looking after him?

Meanwhile, regular readers may remember that I've been keen to see City play Forest in Nottingham since the middish 1990s. Yesterday I finally got the chance, and naturally we won — what with us being Hull City and us not losing away. Ace.

Yep. Ramsey, Walcott, Koscielny were awful yesterday.. van Persie was the sole reason we won. Clueless....

Also, Jaffa, I always subconsciously keep an eye open for Hull's results... you must be pretty pleased with things at the moment. Optimistic about playoffs, or is the Premiership something best avoided?!

Premier League? Pah – been there, done that. Bored of that now. :p

Seriously though, we're doing alright. Pearson (Nigel) is slowly building up a very decent Championship side based around young, hungry players augmented by a few experienced old pros. We're not doing anything flashy but instead going about getting results quietly and confidently. Overall, I approve of how we're going about things.

Good to hear. I have the football league show recorded ready for viewing tonight, so I'll check it out!
