That was a sweet windmill stick swing that Miller took after he went down. That might have injured something if it connected.

Definitely not cool. And yes, I know. Thanks. :)

My problem is that people like zioxide somehow thinks that rules in hockey are silly and people should just be out there killing each other. I hate that attitude. They have no respect for the players or the game. They just want to see people get hurt. I suggest they watch boxing instead.

Well they are silly.
You breathe on a goalie when they are in the crease and they go into A cirque de soleil act. Yet when holstrom is just outside the crease goalies whack the crap out of him and yet these same goalies defy the forces of the universe and magically maintain their balance.
If goalies want to come out and play the puck they should bear the rules subjected on other non-goalie players. If that team takes exception to it, they need to show the other team that touching their goalie, though with in the rules, is not acceptable and there will be a price to pay for doing so.

Wrong- I explained before why. It would be my preference not to skate that far out, but the game is demanding it more and more. A better way for people to understand why those rules are there would be for everyone here commenting on it to come out with me and be a goaltender for a few days, especially zioxide. People wanna talk smack? Back it up.

Ok, so that is interesting -- I had expected something from 20 years back. Surprising to me that there is no outrage. I'd like to know why...

I would too. That was ridiculous.

I hadn't seen it yet. Was a penalty called on the play? That was a pretty useless and stupid move by Cole.

Bottom line is this: goalies are not fair game, even if they are on the white ice. They should not be bowled over in the way that Lucic took out Miller. Incidental contact or a bump is fine, but a full out body check is not cool. Lucic made a decision to finish his check, and finish it hard and heavy. He could have let up, reached out and grabbed him to lessen the hit, swerved a little, etc. But he didn't. Beating up the little guy doesn't make you a tough guy.

Lucic's decision to run Miller down was actually quite selfish if you think about it. It did nothing to give the B's the advantage on that particular play. It would not have allowed him to regain the puck and get a scoring chance. 100% of the time, the ref blows the whistle on that play. So what was the point?

I'm too busy and tired to keep arguing about this.

I really liked the HHOF inductees' speeches last night. When Mark Howe talked about his dad and put on Gordie's #9 Red Wings sweater, I choked up a bit.

Hey it's freaking hockey, play the damn game.
I am 5'5" and I like nothing more than to antagonize a goalie. Whether it be skating behind him in his crease or thru it. I pay the price dearly.
If a goalie is outside the crease you can bet your last dollar I am bumping him. Again I know the consequences. Goalies have their sacred area, travel outside that area I am all over you like paint on a wall.
Of course not out to hurt anyone just a friendly bump as we all have to work and support family's.

As a forward I have to disagree with your position.
Of course a friendly disagreement. I if did run into you I would at least ask if you were ok, if I wasn't getting tackled.

I do play it. Come near me in my zone and you'll be taking a nice trip to the boards. But don't sit there and pretend that you don't know why these rules are in place. If you guys respected the crease rule (which you rarely do, as you have just admitted), you might have a point. But since you don't, I see no reason for you to be able declare open season on a goalie outside the crease.

Well said, and thank you. It wasn't strategic in the least. It was cowardly.

Yeah lets give them AK47s too? Are you serious? I have no respect for the game because I don't want it to turn in to a ***** sport? I like hockey because of the physical aspect of the game. I don't want to see players get hurt, get hit in the head, whatever, but I do like to see a good physical game of hockey with lots of clean hits.

Obviously the rules are important. It's not like I'm going around saying that after every hit you should have bench clearing brawls, fans fighting players/cops/officials, players in the stands hitting guys with their shoes (i'm lookin at you, milbury :p), but lets be real. Obviously the game is a lot more clean and refined than it was back in the day, but hockey is a physical game. There has been hitting in hockey for 100 years. There are going to be big hits, and occasionally someone will get hurt. But thats the reality of it being a physical sport. I'm all for suspensions when its clear head hunting, intent to injure, blind side boarding, etc, but that's not what this situation is. The goalie came out of the crease to play the puck and got hit with a normal hockey hit. It's a 2 minute penalty because you can't hit the goalie. That's fine, but to say there should be a suspension is absolute blasphemy.

If the goalie doesn't want to get hit he should stay in his ****ing crease. Thats the bottom line. If the goalie is 20 feet out of the crease, and a player wants to hit the goalie, their OK with the 2 minute penalty, and as long as he's not deliberately head hunting (or boarding, other intent to injure, etc) then go for it. Maybe it pays off, you kill off the PK, throw the goalie off his game, and then score when you get it back to 5 on 5.

The reaction by some people over what was a clean hockey hit (regardless if its a 2 min penalty for interference on the goalie) is ridiculous. You would think he ran at him from behind, left his feet, and full on launched an elbow or shoulder straight in to the back of Miller's head.

Ok, so that is interesting -- I had expected something from 20 years back. Surprising to me that there is no outrage. I'd like to know why...

Because its Montreal and not Boston. Of course if one of the Sabres did that to Price all 21,273 in the Bell Centre would bust out their phones to call 911, and the mounties would be on the way!

Anyway I've had enough of this argument. I'm heading up to Boston to go see the boys kick the **** out of Jersey tonight.

It wasn't a clean hit, hence the penalty as there was no strategic use for it, you do want to see people get hurt as you've already admitted in your post and hockey will never be a "*****" sport. I'm sure all the females here at MR really appreciate that reference, BTW.

You don't understand hockey at all. You don't even know why hits happen. You just like to see them happen. You've said as much.

Like I said, you wanna talk smack? Then step out on the ice. Otherwise, you might want to listen to those of us who do 3-4 nights a week, do what you're not brave enough to do, and go home with bruises, cuts, groin pulls, concussions and god knows what else. If that sounds like I'm being a ***** to you, you know where you can go- Because I go home with injuries more often than not as do all goalies, and the skaters walk away with nothing most of the time.

Typical skater versus goalie bs skater argument.

Goalies are ballerinas on ice, the biggest drama queens next to the Sedins.
Boohoo I got hit.
Play the game!

Surely is gonna agree because Toronto hasn't had a team since Domi retired his hands. That team needs all the help they can get. They'll be cellar darkness soon enough and the fans will chalk it up as a typical season.

Anyone going to te Detroit game on the 25th that has an extra ticket?

Excuse me? Then go be a goalie. We take a lot of crap from and for you guys. I feel bad for whoever your goalie is. You've got a lot of nerve to tell those who play the entire game and get the crap kicked out of them constantly that they're drama queens. Nice attitude. Think about that next time your team's goalie can't play and you need to find one. Oh, and we are playing by the rules, BTW- it's people like zioxide and you who don't like the rules. Don;t like the rules? Don't play the game.

Either way- this thread has proven what a pile of dung it is. I don't need to sit here and be insulted by people who should know better.

Yes, that's irritating considering a ***** is probably one of the toughest body parts on a human being, tough enough to push a whole freaking human being through it - which generally causes it to rip and require stitches. Meanwhile, a man ends up on the ground curled up in a ball if so much as a strong crosswind catches him across his balls. Yet "ballsy" means tough, and "*****" means weak.

You don't understand hockey at all. You don't even know why hits happen. You just like to see them happen. You've said as much.

With all due respect, lee, playing in a rec hockey league is not a requirement to understanding the game of hockey. Nor does it make your opinion any more valid than someone else's.

The hit drew a penalty, as it should, but that's all it needed, and the league agreed. Lucic wasn't out headhunting, he didn't piledrive Miller into the ice. And if you look at Lucic's career stats, he's received a grand total of 3 goalie interference penalties. Three, in his entire career. So this talk of him being a goon is a bit ridiculous.

I know people love to hate on the Bruins, but enough already. As others have said, the Sabres flinging Seguin into Miller resulted in a far worse hit than Lucic's.

Typical skater versus goalie bs skater argument.

I swear, I can't spend a few minutes in this thread without reading something about people being *******, ballerinas, etc. For the feminist record, I took ballet seriously for awhile, and it was harder/rougher on my body than playing varsity basketball. By far.

That said, no one should be laying out goalies, I agree with lee and pretty much everyone else on that front. They're just not as mobile, but if you're constantly skating out of your crease, all the way to the face off circle, then you might get hit. Plain and simple. Looch got his penalty, and that's that. More questionable to me is why the Sabres all turtled and did nothing about it.

Lee - I'm too old. I leave it to you young guys :). Just cause we don't do it doesn't mean that we are weak though

Bruinsrme - I might be willing to part with my tickets for a reasonable price for 11/25.

We've beaten the dead horse. Twice. Good job.

Bruins / NJ tonight. Go B's.

In zioxide's case, it does. There are obvious pieces of information he's missing that a good few days on the ice would help him understand. Oh, and I play full-check, competitive hockey in addition to rec. ;)

I agree it as a lousy play, however I can see how it transpired.

Goalies are goalies and teams need to protect them.

I think Buffalo has some issues in the locker room.

Suspension for Lucic? No there was a puck at least in the vicinity.

Running at the goalie intentionally without a puck in sight, 5 minute major.

Goalies are sacred property and even in rec hockey teams protect their goalie far more than buffalo did.

Miller went down like he missed a double axel.

The 23rd against buffalo will be uneventful and the bruins will win.

Lee I have a lot of respect for goalies.;)

Just busting balls. :p

I would never play net.

But damn is it fun antagonizing goalies.:D

Other than the Clint Malarchuck injury ... not many goalies go home with this type of injury

What I am saying is Defensemen are more likely to be injured blocking shots or forwards being blindsided into the boards than goalies are ever injured ... Gilmour never finished a playoff series without 2 black eyes.

I guess I just look at the people I've been playing with in various leagues. Usually it's us who walk away with the blackened arms, ribs, concussions and groin pulls. I've had all that several times. A few weeks ago, I had to take a week off to let everything heal, especially after a puck slipped under my pads and hit my knee- not pretty. And I didn't want to take the week off! It killed me not to be out there. But at some point, you have to realize you're just human. :(

Oh god- and thanks for bringing up Malarchuk.

I hear you Lee ... your group probably plays in a more civil manner and the goalies take the brunt of the injuries ... one of the most dangerous positions is playing Defense in the NHL during playoff time.

Just last week in Canada a junior player was killed when he was hit in the neck blocking a shot on Defense.

Sorry about mentioning Malarchuck ... that was a freak accident before goalies had the neck extensions on their masks
