I hear you Lee ... your group probably plays in a more civil manner and the goalies take the brunt of the injuries ... one of the most dangerous positions is playing Defense in the NHL during playoff time.

In a way. What you're kindly trying to say is that defense is almost non-existent with my group- you would be right. Most of the time, their definition of defense is skating ahead of the forward and maybe trying to get in his way. ;) That's not so in the competitive league I play in though. It's way more intense.

Just last week in Canada a junior player was killed when he was hit in the neck blocking a shot on Defense.

I always hate hearing that kind of thing. What a shame.

wow - ugly picture..

Yep- definitely not pretty.

Lee, you are correct ... in your league the goalies are at more risk of injury than the other players on the ice ... be safe out there :)

Why can't I be Brad Richards?

I'd run her over like she was a goalie....... ;)

Hey- just stopped in to let you know that we won tonight, 9-6. Lots of amazing shots, but I will admit that I gave away a few bad rebounds in the first period and were losing 3-5. After that, we pulled our game together and stomped them. I kept my cool and didn't lose my s***, and I only got one bruise-on my collar bone.

Anyway, back to the NHL. ;)

Oh, and we are playing by the rules, BTW- it's people like zioxide and you who don't like the rules. Don;t like the rules? Don't play the game.

I'm fine with the rules. The rules said it was a 2 minute penalty. Thats cool. Nothing in the rule book says thats a suspension.

But hey Lucic is just a big piece of **** right? He was just one of the 5 bruins tonight who each donated $5k worth of tickets to soldiers for military appreciation night.

That locker room is out working it for so many charities its amazing they have time to practice and play.

Sounds like you need some new defensemen ;) I always leave the rink with bruises on my ankles and shins from blocking shots. I actually enjoy playing D. it's just as satisfying to block shots and shut forwards down as it is to score. I love passing and a good break out. Too bad we don't live closer, I'd protect you haha.

No- you said earlier that goalies should expect to be hit when they're outside the crease. You don't like that rule, and you're not fine with it at all.

WTF does that have to do with how he plays hockey? Bill Gates does wonderful charity work, but he also gave us Windows. ;)

It depends on the the league I'm playing in. Some are amazing D- others, not so much. Last night, we had some really good defense happening. But it did not stop the one slapshot that hit me in the collarbone, right under my chin. I clamped my chin down onto my collarbone and held that damn puck there though. It hurt. A lot.

The caveat to blocking shots is to remember you're not the goalie lol. I used to try to get in front of everything - and would end up screening the goalie in the process. You can't save what you can't see. So I've been working on getting better positionally.

Yep- block the puck with your stick, not your body. That's my job. ;)

A lot of things like that happened in the first period last night- my team screening me, me giving away rebounds, etc. We just pulled it together after that. Our attitude was that we knew we were better, so be better. Then we proceeded to walk all over them. :) It was fun. I love coming back like that and turning a game around.

Back to NHL- The Sens won last night. :)

So did the Blues! And against Detroit, so the win is even better! :D

My Panthers really put the whooping on the Stars last night, in Dallas, 6-0. Weiss, Versteeg, and Fleischmann combined for 3 goals and 5 assists, and in 17 games this year, they have 52 points (22g 30a), and are a +36. They arent the best top line in the league, skill wise, but as of right now, they are one of the best top lines in the league.

Never once in this thread did I say it shouldn't be a minor. I said it doesn't warrant a suspension. There's no precedent for it and it's not in the rules. We are playing hockey here. There's always a chance the goalie can get hit, in the crease or out of it, incidental or not.

If it's a particularly egregious hit, one that would warrant a major/misconduct/suspension whether or not a goalie is involved, that's fine. But for just hitting the goalie with a normal hockey hit? 2 minutes is exactly what it should be.

If that's not even a minor penalty, then the Lucic hit should be 2 minutes and nothing more.

Nothing, but by the reactions of some, you'd think he was an axe murderer or something. Just wanted to post a little something to show he's actually a good guy off the ice...

Last night's game was fun, back and forth battle. My boys won their 6th in a row. Last two times we've had 6 game winning streaks during a season? 1971-1972 and 2010-2011 (the last 2 times we won the cup! ;))

I think we finished that one.

Yeah I had to get my last word in because I was at the game when everyone else finished their dicussion :p

I'm over it now.. time to move on. Columbus tomorrow night, last game of the 5 game homestand. Win it to finish up a solid homestand

It was not the finest defensive showing last night. Kampfer continues to make dumb plays which limited his ice time to ~9min. Thornton only had ~3.xx mins... but did get his first goal.

We'll see how tomorrow goes. I'll be there.
