Not surprised. Any national broadcast will always be blacked out- regardless of where you are-they want you to watch on NBC.
Yeah. I'm fed up with televisions' archaic, legacy business model. With the advancement of the Internet and streaming services, they render the barbaric TV model irrelevant.
I only pay the cable company for their Internet services and have no television service. They call me about every two months trying to do anything to get me to buy it.
Instead I have the Apple TV and Netflix which provides me all the entertainment I could want on my screen. The best part of all is it's inexpensive and commercial free. My dad recently visited me and I showed him my simple and cheap setup and he was awestruck by it. He has DirectTV at home and loathes it so much because of the commercials and the hundred's of channels of garbage he doesn't care for. He's since been telling the rest of the family and friends of my setup. Sadly for him, he lives in an area where all he can get is dial-up Internet service, making my solution impossible for him.
This whole business of markets, regions and blackouts needs to be revisited and re-worked, if not eliminated altogether. I understand that the blackout rules are there to "protect" the local telecasters, but more and more, folks are switching to streaming services and dumping their cable/satellite/OTA sources.
What gets me the most upset with the NHL on Apple TV, is I (we) have paid the NHL directly for their content and we should have full access to every game, everywhere. I half-understand that if I wanted to watch a local game on cable/satellite etc... that they would black it out, due to advertising on the local OTA channels; but not when I pay directly for the content.
