watching the Canada Russia WJC game-
If I were a Canadian fan, I would want to pummel those Russians for their over celebration-I mean the home plate slide for a hat trick after your teammate destroys their goalie?

Talk about a bitter, intense and nasty rivalry...

No ****! That was a crazy game! Mean as hell.

It's still going on? Wow! I don't have cable...

Ah. Fair enough, Lee.:)

Next time you want to watch a live game at home, try googling "team vs team live stream" (obviously insert the team names in). You'd be surprised what comes up.....I know I was. ;)

It's over now. Russia won 6-5, but damn, what an amazing comeback attempt by Canada.

At least the Leafs beat the Bolts 7-3 tonight. :D

NBC Sports NHL 36 is about to start their special on Patrice Bergeron.. can't wait for this.

Yeah, I was at a friend's watching and thought it was over by the time I got home. Oh well. What I saw was intense.

As for me, I'm still hoping to play our Winter Classic on the 28th. I'm concerned my foot may not be healed enough by then, even though I should start walking again on Monday. I have set my guys up with an alternate goalie if I can't do it. It's gonna kill me if I can't, but I know I need to be sure I'm healthy enough to come back by then.

Eller shot the lights out last night against the Jets. He'll be one of the stars this week... here's a penalty shot goal (his 4th of the night) that will make the highlight reels..

B's trounced the Devils. Let's hope for more of the same tonight against the Flames and Sat against the Canucks.

Can't wait for the show on Giroux:p:rolleyes:;)

I watched the Bergeron one last night and enjoyed it. The thing about shows like this and 24/7 is that they humanize the guys. Before these shows we just saw them on tv and "hated" because they are on the other team, fought against our team, etc. Most of you guys hate the Bruins in that way. In reality, with a few exceptions on any team, the guys that they are showing are pretty likable...

Just saw Burke's comments-

I have to admit I never thought I would see the day when even he is starting to question the need for enforcers and even fighting. I think he is right about one thing-there is no on-ice accountability-you can throw an elbow and the only retribution is a date with Shanny, which while hurts the wallet, ultimately doesn't make a difference-you can't suspend everyone. However, if the suspensions became harsher (7-10 as a base and go up from there), then maybe we can start to see accountability. But until that day, we will continue to have to deal with the Torres, Carcillos and other cheap shot artists.

on happier news-
all those shocked that there are 4 sens in the starting lineup for the ASG raise their hand...

Yeah, I heard his comments earlier in the day. He's right.

*raises hand*

Fans shouldn't choose the All Stars. Then again....it's the ASG, so it doesn't matter.

The Bruins just absolutely mollywhopped the Flames 9-0. My goodness.

Who cares:p......the real story out of Calgary is the finish in the gold medal game tonight in the World Junior Championship.

1-0 Sweden in overtime. They had 58 shots on goal! Russia only had 17 shots.

Oh, and Canada won the bronze against Finland.

Leafs won again....4-0. Shutout.

Burke is right. The game needs it's enforcers. Having played competitively myself (and had my net crashed as a goalie), the need is definitely there. If we lose those guys, the game becomes the victim of jerks. Newsflash- hockey is violent. If you don't like it, you don't have to play or watch. If the enforcers go away, it becomes seriously dangerous and stupid. The good people will just stop doing it and it will end up like wrestling- dumb, no skills involved and nothing more but a show.

The only thing I ask is that fighting happens for a reason. Not fighting to justify staying on a roster. A fight should happen for a good reason, not just for a show.

I hate it when two guys drop the gloves after the faceoff, have their stupid fight, and then they don't play another shift for the rest of the game.

I agree- that is silly. What bums me out too is the fans who go to a game just so they can see a fight. Fights are not the point. No one goes out there with the intention to hurt another player. Fights should be a defensive reaction. I got really mad at a friend of mine who came to watch a game I was in looking for people to fight. "Don't come watch if that's what you want. Go watch wrestling or boxing. Fights are rare as possible but do happen and they happen for a reason." They didn't get it. But then again, they don't play. I never understood it completely until I played.

Another time, I had a friend ask me if we beat guys up in the parking lot after games because of fights. I was like, "You really don't get it. This might sound messed up to you, but the guy you fight with is the guy you drink with after the game. He's the first guy you find and make amends with. You make your apologies and that's it. What happens on the ice, stays on the ice." Then you compliment him on his play and ask how you can improve yours. "Did you see anything I was doing that I could do better?" and vice versa. This is why I love the game. Players help each other, even across teams, because it makes us more competitive. It's no fun to stomp a team. What's fun is the 0-0 until the last minute.

If the enforcers go, we'll have jerks playing the game who just go out to hurt people, and it will spin out of control and just be another dumb spectacle. Hockey will become a joke, just like wresting did.

Brian Burke is right. We need our enforcers. Hockey is the best game on Earth. I do not want to see it dragged down to the level of wrestling.

Where do you draw the line between staged and not? Is a guy coming on the ice with the sole purpose of starting a fight staged, or a means to fire up his team? What about a fight after two guys are just jawing and end up dropping the gloves?

While I don't really know if removing fighting all together is the answer or not, the staged fights must go. They serve no purpose and should go. I think we will have answers to all of these things come september when the CBA expires.

But they do serve a purpose. Wednesday at the beginning of the Bruins/Devils game Thornton dropped the gloves with Janssen right after the faceoff like 3 minutes in. Thornton said he was disappointed with the way the Bruins had played in the last game (loss to Dallas) and wanted to fire up the team and get them in to the game early. That fight served that purpose perfectly.

I don't see any reason to get rid of fighting. It's what makes hockey the best sport. All of the concussions that keep happening are from hits, not fights.

I'm glad all the "HBO 24/7" and "Winter Classic" **** is done with. Now my boyz can concentrate on playing the game:p

And Lee sorry about last night:p;) Your boyz are scary good, but couldn't get it done. The Flyers 4th line aka "kid line" are getting better by the game;):D

Peace

I managed to watch a couple of minutes of the Bruins game on the NHL app before it basically told me to stop freeloading and subscribe, and saw the 9th goal.

As TWC has basically held up a big middle finger to anyone who likes NY Basketball and Hockey, I didn't get to watch the Rangers game. I did, however, see a trailer for a movie called "Goon" starring Sean William Scott. Not sure if it'll be very good, it seems to be released to iTunes in February and then released in cinemas in March, but it's about someone put on the ice in a Minor League just to fight.

Strange concept seeing how fighting and enforcers are getting a negative light thrown on them though.

Bruins vs Canucks tomorrow in the SCF rematch... this is going to be good.

No need to be sorry. It was a good game.

Allow me to clarify-

that is the kind of fights that do serve a purpose-firing up a team that isn't working or is not doing well and needs a kick in the butt. What I am talking about is two guys just squaring off because its their job to do (an example would be when George Parros and Jody Shelly just fighting because the Sharks and Ducks were playing each other. The game would be 5 minutes old and nothing was happening on either side). Those are the fights that need to go.

What they need to do is just eliminate idiot no-talent players like Jody Shelley. More "enforcers" need to be like Shawn Thornton. While he doesn't put up big numbers, that guy is a hell of a hockey player. He's always all over the ice, forechecking, playing great defense, etc.

I wish I had more to say.......:p
