Champion Bruins meeting President Obama today. :D

My favorite Bruin is now my least favorite. You stand with your brothers, no matter what. Tim Thomas, you were once my favorite goaltender and I watched you with admiration, but once you injected politics into the game, you had to go.

Just a note- as a hockey player myself: If my team won the cup during the Bush years, I would go to the White House. I would not have said a word against Bush then. Why? Because it's a game and an honor to be invited, no matter what your political stripe. You go, you support your brothers, and you share the Cup with the country.

If you have political differences with the President, bring them up later and as vocally as you want, but not in relation to the Cup. The Cup belongs to us all, no matter what your politics. Thomas has shamed hockey. I was shocked by this, because Thomas has always been one of my faves, even though he's a Bruin. Trust me, that's saying a lot.

Tim Thomas, the most valuable player in last year’s playoffs, declined to visit the White House on Monday with the rest of the members of the Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins.

Thomas released a statement Monday evening:

“I believe the federal government has grown out of control, threatening the rights, liberties and property of the people. This is being done at the executive, legislative and judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the founding fathers vision for the federal government. Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a free citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an individual. This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic.”

Douchebag. You're ruining sports by injecting your political beliefs into them. Then by refusing to take questions or clarifying yourself, making it worse. Sports should NEVER be about politics. There are Canadians on your team, who probably despise American politics more than you, but they went to the White House, and have for years, no matter their politics, Bush, Obama or whoever!

You're a goalie, and a damn good one. Stop trying to be a politician. Sports should be about uniting people, not dividing them. Shame on you, Tim Thomas, for doing this to the game.

Sorry to distract from the Bruins/Obama thing, but does anyone here think the Preds are for real? Also, do you think they will give up Suter for a decent forward?

Also, which division do you think is the best? Im biased and not great on my hockey knowledge yet, but I think the central or atlantic. The central has 4 teams in the top 7 of the power rankings. The atlantic is filled with solid teams.

Sorry to distract from the Bruins/Obama thing,

No, please distract. Distract away. As much as you'd like.:p

Lee, I love ya man, but let's not turn this fun thread into a PRSI thread. I knew about the Thomas thing, and have my opinion, but don't want to talk about it here. Pleeeeeeease.:)

I feel just as confident that they're for real as I do about my Leafs. So not too confident.:D

I agree with that.

I'l let yo know tomorrow, as I'm going to the Chicago/Nashville game. :)

I don't really want to go in to it because I hate talking politics, but lets just say this might be the first time I agree with Lee. :p

It's funny because I actually appreciate what Thomas said in his statement as to why he did it, but it was just totally the wrong time to make any type of statement like that. The event was to honor the TEAM for winning the Stanley Cup, not something related to politics at all. That's when you put your political views aside and just do what's good for the team. I'm disappointed.:(

Exactly. I started a PRSI thread to address it. Let's leave it there. I was disappointed too- I love Thomas as a goalie. He is outstanding in that role. If there is one Bruin that does his job on talent alone, it's Thomas. There is no doubt that he is one of the best goalies in the league.

Ah lucky. I always seem to be caught at school (6-9PM classes) when the good games come to town.

I'll be there! Nashville killed us the last game, so I'll be interested to see what happens. I'm betting they start Emery in goal. I have to say, I did not like him in the pre season, but he seems to be getting better. I think they should, as Crawford looked weak last game. Probably will be meeting up with my coach, Kevin Delaney at the game.

Great guy, and good coach.

Well the reason, in part, why we killed y'all is because y'all had a game the night before and didn't get into Nashville until around 3AM. Now the tables have turned and we had a game tonight (but I really think we slacked tonight to save up energy for tomorrows game) and play y'all tomorrow. We will see how it goes. Last time in Chicago we lost in OT. Always against Chicago and Detroit, if we come out with 1 point I am satisfied.

Haha and Crawford giving up that red line goal. I was watching and randomly heard GOAL and the lights going off. I had no idea the puck even went in. Just one of those bounces I guess.

That bounce was one of those thing all us goalies hate. It's not our fault, just freaky things that happen. I hate those goals. :) I don't fault him for that. It's the others that were bad. :)

And Bergeron.

Never gets enough credit. Easily a top 10 (probably higher) player at his position in the league. The guy does it all, is a great leader, always composed, hard working. Classy, humble gentleman off the ice too. Can't believe he's in his 8th year now yet he's only 26. Future captain of the Bruins once Chara retires.

Watching a live stream of the Leafs @ Isles game. We won last night, so hopefully we can take the second of this home-at-home. I can't remember the last time there's been a true home-at-home series (without a day off in between).

Here's a screenshot of Mike Myers at the game. I'll bet that's an Andreychuk jersey. He's sitting way up in the stands.....no front row for him!

Since this is an Apple site, here's a shot of him on his iPhone:

Toews and Sharp out tonight. Our chances of winning instantly got better.

Crawford breaks his stick over goal lolz

High blood pressure + that 3rd period = bad idea. Y'all came storming out of that 2nd int. And that too many men penalty with 2 minutes left was the nail in the coffin.

Leafs were down 2-0 and came back to win the game in 4-3 in OT.

We were leading 3-2 with 12 seconds left on the clock, and a bad bounce led to a NYI goal, which forced overtime. MacArthur's OT goal was caught by the Isles goalie, but he caught it while his glove was over the goal line.

Great way to lead into the All Star break.

The Rangers finished the 1st half on a high note as well, shutting out the Jets 3-0. They were helped out, though, by two Mark Sanchez interceptions, which led to 2 goals.

Rex Ryan, who guaranteed a win, was the most disappointed...

Boo poor NFL jokes in an NHL thread. Rangers and Bruins look tough though in the East. Go Wings go!

It was terrible. I was almost embarrassed to be there. Oh, and the nail in the coffin was pulling Crawford. "Oh. we're playing like s***. Let's pull the goalie, because ya know- what's better than five crappy players on the ice? 6!" Dumb move.

Are there any stats out there on how often a team wins after pulling their goalie? More often than not, it's just adding the final nail in the coffin when the winning team gets the empty netter.

It's not a winning strategy and IMO, you're just as likely to tie the game and force OT with 5 skaters and a goalie than you are with 6 skaters and no goalie, and yet it's almost guaranteed that a team down by 1 or 2 goals will pull their goalie in the last couple minutes.

I've only been in one situation where it worked. Every other time, it was a disaster. I'll look up stats.
