Dude, wtf was Clowe thinking when he reached onto the ice from the bench and interfered with the play? I've never seen that before.....

And BTW, his name was trending worldwide on Twitter tonight :p

And WTF were the refs thinking by not calling that? It was so blatantly obvious. How the hell did they miss that? After reading it, I thought perhaps a Kings player was trying to clear the puck down the zone and it accidentally bounced off Clowe's stick or something like that, easily missed, but after seeing the video, I think an officiating crew consisting of Stevie Wonder and Helen Keller would've seen that and called it.

The officiating has been awful this season.

That was simply amazing. It seems to me that there should be some discipline for flat out cheating...

Can someone explain this one to me: They are saying that the Bruins are not guaranteed to play the Sens at this point.

- The Bruins are locked into #2 in the east
- The Sens are #7 and two points ahead of the Caps
- If the Caps win (and Sens and FLA do not get a point), they will get to 92 points which ties them with Sens and FLA. But, since they would be tied with FLA (and have more ROW wins), the Caps should move to #3 and FLA to #8... but I must be missing something.

I don't have a clue on earth what he was thinking or even how the refs missed it. He not only could have been penalized, but potentially have gotten a penalty shot against his own team.

(I actually went to the rulebook and had to look it up. The only rule that i can see that could apply would be
this

53.6

If a player on a breakaway in the neutral or attacking zone is interfered with by a stick or any other object or piece of equipment that is thrown by any member of the defending team, including the Coach or any non-playing Club person, a penalty shot shall be awarded to the non-offending team. See also Rule 57.3 – Tripping for fouls from behind to a player on a breakaway.
If a player on a breakaway in the neutral or attacking zone is interfered with by an object thrown on the ice by a spectator that causes him to lose possession of the puck or to fall, the Referee shall award a penalty shot to the player who was fouled.
the Kings have every right to be enraged-

I have seen a couple of people saying this balances out clockgate-I have to disagree. The clock thing could have been called back had someone taken a closer look at the clock itself. This was a blatant unsportsmanlike play by an otherwise honest player (no rap sheet or history of dirty play that I can recall).

All I can say is if Phoenix loses tonight, Saturday night will be a bloodbath that will make Custard's last stand look like a Mafia hit.

AFAIK, the Kings player wasn't on a breakaway so I'm not sure what rule would apply here. I think it's deserving of a penalty shot, but the refs, assuming they saw it, couldn't just pull rules out of their ass.

What I've seen people saying is that it should've been a too many men on the ice minor, and no suspension should be handed out because refs miss minor penalties all the time and the players aren't punished for it. But IMO, it should be more than a minor. The too many men penalty is for when a line change gets screwed up or there's miscommunication from the bench and there are accidentally too many men out there. This is such a blatant, intentional infraction that I don't think a 2 minute minor would suffice. Although if it was called and a minor was given, it would be better than no call at all.

who the heck is calling it too many men? This is no different than a player on the sidelines in the NFL "accidentally running into" a player who is running for a TD.

He should be suspended. That's one of the most unsportsmanlike plays I've seen in a long time.

Anyone get playoff tickets yet?

I'm going to Bruins home game 1 next week :D

Yep, I'll be there.

Some commenters I've seen on other blogs are calling it that. I strongly disagree.

I don't think it is that far fetched but it isn't right. It's interference.

If you read the too many men rule 74 you eventually get to:
A player coming onto the ice as a substitute player is considered on the ice once both of his skates are on the ice. If he plays the puck or interferes with an opponent while still on the players’ bench, he shall be penalized under Rule 56 – Interference.

Going to Rule 56 and skipping the obvious stuff:
A minor penalty shall be imposed on any identifiable player on the players’ bench or penalty bench who, by means of his stick or his body, interferes with the movements of the puck or any opponent on the ice during the progress of the play. In addition, should a player about to come onto the ice, play the puck while one or both skates are still on the players’ or penalty bench, a minor penalty for interference shall be assessed.

("identifiable" is an interesting part of that)

EDIT: Figured out the playoff question I asked above...

Whoever is standing after game 7 between pens and flyers-

Ha, Pens for sure. They have such great resilience when it comes to blowing games. We're on fire right now Malkin & Crosby are destroying, James Neal hopefully comes back and is back on track. Pascal Dupuis on a 17 game point streak. A lot of our players right now on their career bests (Malkin, Kunitz, Dupuis)

My Picks

East
- Rangers in 6
- Devils in 6
- Bruins in 6
- Pens in 7 (originally wrote Flyers but this is a toss up in my mind. If the Flyers play really heavy hockey they can win)

West
- Canucks in 5
- Sharks in 7 (ok, I'll be controversial since cuestakid is giving up:) )
- Hawks in 5
- Preds in 7

I'm glad you guys are pick'n the Pen's he...he...he...;):D

Too bad Milbury didn't stand up for what he believed. Torts laid it out clearly about the whining and got charged $20k for his graciousness.

Like I said - I think it's pretty even and whoever is standing will likely be tough but worn down.

I'll be REALLY happy if Philly and Ottawa both manage to win their series'.

3 days until game one... cannot wait any longer!

I am not giving up-I am setting myself up to be surprised while preparing for the most likely outcome..

I am curious as to why you think the hawks and canucks will win that fast-if Mike Smith can stand on his head, phoenix has a chance to at least make it a long story.

LA can hang with vancouver-they have the skill-they just need the goaltending ability to hold a lead.

I'm in Sharks country tonight and even the other locals are worried. My bud is a season tix holder and he's not looking that confident!.

Re: my picks and # of games.
1) I think that Vancouver has too much experience and will wipe them.
2) I don't think PHX is as good as they look BUT they are surging
3) I don't really know anything about that division :)

(3 is probably the accurate one).

Now I'm off to find some sushi and see if there are any confident sharks fans.

if I knew where you were I might be able to help with the sushi part-as for the confident fans, the ones that are confident are homers and think that we can beat anyone and are better than anyone (I call this the USC football syndrome)

San Jose - Sushi Zen on First. I'll let you know next time!

No one here that confident either. By consensus you are screwed. ;)

Doesn't look like it happened..

My favorites: (the "go" should be "got" I think -- this is a transcription from: http://blogs.canada.com/2012/04/10/toronto-maple-leafs-gm-brian-burke-press-conference-live/)
---------
How angry were you after that 8-0 game against Boston?

I was not pleased at that, I like teams that go into buildings and dictate how games are played, not get dictated to, and I was very unhappy about that.

Do people here need more patience, like Pittsburgh?

They won a lottery. They won a goddamn lottery and go the best player in the game. Pittsburgh model my ass. They go the best player in the lottery, Ray Shero’s an excellent GM and a friend of mine, but I love when people talk about the Pittsburgh model. We came second that year in Anaheim, they got Sidney Crosby. Are there things I wish I said differently? When I got up here I try to answer honestly, I don’t like what’s happened here, I don’t like our lack of progress, I’m driving the bus, I’m not happy with where we are today.
---------

Sorry, I don't buy it. One player does not make a team. I agree that it can be someone for the team to be built around but 28 other teams didn't get Crosby either. And, at least one fan of one team doesn't want him!

I don't pretend to understand the politics or passion of Toronto hockey but I understand press conferences, management and marketing. This is a guy that doesn't think he is part of the problem.
