that goal was complete BS... the ref should have blown it dead. there is no way he had sight of the puck. The officiating was awful that non-high stick... and for the other way the prust slash.... terrible. I'm done watching hockey for the year.

Surely, if you do go to any of the games you should buy this sign.

I disagree. The puck was live, Lunquvist never had possession of it, and it was a good goal.

Yup. That's definitely a good goal. You can't blame the refs, it was sloppy defense by the Rangers and Henrique was in the right place at the right time.

That said, go Kings. :D

I can't stand New Jersey. (except for Zach Parise)

I can definitely see this series going 6 or 7.

I really have no idea on who will win. When I convince myself that the Kings will win, I then come up with a bunch of reasons why the Devils will win. And then back to the Kings, to the Devils, etc.

I really think we're in for a great series.

Dude I could see Richards and Carter with the Cup drinking in some sleazy shore bar in Jersey;)

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come from the Leafs:

The Toronto Marlies (the Maple Leafs' AHL team) are going to the Calder Cup Finals, which is the AHL championship.

Hopefully Randy Carlyle works out as coach of the Leafs, but at the time he was hired, I thought it was a big mistake that they didn't promote the Marlies' coach, Dallas Eakins, instead. He will be a successful NHL coach one day.

Anyone else watch the Memorial Cup tonight? Crazy game!

Unbelievable that the Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL) beat out the London Knights (OHL) in OT to win the Cup. Shawinigan hosted the tourney (which makes it even sweeter that they won at home), and from what I know, they were not expected to win. London, which is owned by Dale Hunter and has been coached by his brother since Dale went to the Caps to coach, was expected to win. Hunter will most likely be back coaching them next year.

It was also refreshing to see the crowd NOT boo the commissioner of a hockey league (David Branch, who is commissioner of the CHL). :p

I've always loved the QMJHL's logo:

Would you say the memorial cup tournament is equal to NCAA Mens basketball tournament in terms of popularity, passion and TV? It clearly seems that it is

Anyone else annoyed with (a) the long wait between the Conference Finals and the Stanley Cup Finals and (b) the ridiculous TV schedule the NHL settles on? Wednesday/Saturday/Monday? Why not something like Tuesday/Friday/Sunday for two weekend games or something else?

Meh. Almost there. 2 more days.

It's definitely not as big as the NCAA bball tourney. It's a pretty big event for the cities involved, and some people in the bigger cities that have NHL teams do pay attention, but not to the same level as the NCAA's Final Four tourney.

However, I haven't lived in Canada in over 4 years, so it's possible that it's become bigger than it used to be. It's big enough that Sportsnet sent their main NHL hockey guys (such as Millard and Kypreos) to cover the tournament instead of focusing on the NHL conference finals.

It's really not that long of a wait. Game 1 of the final series should start two days after whenever game 7 of the conference finals took place (or should take place). Game 6 of the Rangers/Devils was on Friday, which would mean that game 7 would probably have been on Sunday. So, going by the way that I think it should work, game 1 should be today (Tuesday). Instead, it's tomorrow. I don't think that one extra day is that big of a deal.

I mean, look at the Super Bowl.....they play that two weeks after the conference final games. Gotta sell the ad space I suppose.....

That's not too hard to figure out, given that these kids will be the future stars of the NHL.

Perhaps Crosby, et al, woke them up, that they better start doing some groundwork. ;)

anyone think the kings are telling marty mcsorley to stay the heck away from LA and Newark until further notice....

or at least make sure he is nowhere near a stick.....

Ha

Take a listen to HockeyCentral @ Noon from today. Gretzky was interviewed during the first segment, and he touched upon the McSorley stick incident.

It looks like Nik Lidstrom will be announcing his retirement tomorrow. Here's a weird coincidence: http://twitter.com/TGfireandice/status/207917639748698112

I'm looking forward to game 1 tonight! I feel pulled between wanting the Kings to finally win a Cup and wanting Brodeur to win another one....

Lidstrom - sad, but he has more than earned the right to do what he wants. As a Wings fan I'm torn. I'd love him back, but having him off the books should guarantee us one or both of the mega free agents (Parise/Suter) if we want them or one of them and Semin, or whatever Holland wants. I also wouldn't want him to either half-ass his last year or pull a half lap and retire post-Winter Classic.

I think I'll take the Kings in 6 like everyone else. Devils win Game 1 though.

Anyone else finding this game a little yawn so far? It's like both teams are a bit tight and are afraid to make a mistake. Not much emotion yet.

First period was some of the worst hockey I can remember watching in some time. Second got interesting at times. Think we're good for the rest of the series. Just had to shake off that rust and nerves. ;)
