I can't even dispute that fact right now. :(

Yep.

They actually won tonight. I was surprised.

That team needs to be shaken up badly. It's all on the ownership and management for allowing this culture to develop. At this point they might as well write this year off and try to make some moves to build towards 2013.

It's pretty crazy how fast the fans have turned on this team. I've never seen it happen with any team before.

Huuuuuughes! Todays game was his best game of the season. I know it was against the Mariners, but he did suck against the Twins so...... If Hughes can remain consistent, Kuroda keeps improving, and if Andy is effective, we will finally have that good rotation that we were hoping for in the off season( obviously with Pineda in it and not Pettitte).

See you next season...... God why can't the Yankees hit lately? We were shut out by the Royals for freaking sake...... CC is struggling, Nova struggling, Kuroda inconsistent as AJ was....... Our bats suck. Cano is finally heating up, but Jeter is finally cooling off.

CC isn't doing too bad, just his last start he couldn't hold the lead. Nova & Kuroda are definitely struggling and Hughes hasn't been right since pre-'10 All-Star game. I was at Pettitte's first game back and if he can be anything close to '10, he'll easily be the #2 on this staff. Funny, just a few months ago when Pettitte came back writers were saying it was a logjammed rotation.

The bats def. need to wake up. Remove Raul and the hitters look even worse. I don't know what happened to A-Rod's power.

Hughes last 4 starts have been very good. Pettitte's last start was spectacular.

Well, the Red Sox suddenly have the best bullpen in the majors, and the starters have remembered how to pitch. Cody Ross will be out for 2 months, but if we can hang on until Ellsbury and Crawford get back, who knows?

At least it looks like they care again and it's no longer painful to watch them. I appreciate that for my sanity, because I can never come through on my threats to stop watching games.

Well it finally happened Johan Santana gave the mets their first no-hitter in their history. Now retire #57!

****

Tonight was the best example of the need for instant reply. Beltran's hit down the 3rd base line was clearly fair. Easy double. Instead it was called foul.

History won't remember that

I will. So will every Cardinals fan and so will everyone else who wants expanded instant replay.

I think it's pathetic that the MLB has the powers to correct an obvious wrong and they don't. I felt the same about Armando Galarraga's non-perfect perfect game. He's someone who did deserve his accomplishment and Santana is someone who didn't. Santana pitched great. The Cardinals played like crap. But in my view they still had a hit it was not a no-hitter.

And I guarantee you that if the tables were turned, and a large market team like the Mets were on the wrong side of this, the calls for expanded instant reply would be a lot louder.

I don't think you can really argue that the St. Louis Cardinals aren't a big deal team. That whole small market thing doesn't really apply in this case.

I think the game needs expanded replay badly. The technology exists, it should be used.

On the flip side, games are getting longer and people's attention spans shrinking. The challenge will be making sure the games are still played in a reasonable amount of time.

The media market (and thus, advertising dollars) is definitely one of the smaller ones. You certainly won't hear the talking heads on Eastern Sports Promotion Network barking too much about it ;)

How many times when the call is wrong does the manager come out, start arguing with the umpire, the manager gets ejected, the manager and ump argues some more, and play is delayed for 5 minutes. The entire time, they could've been watching the instant replay and getting the call right. Happens a lot. If they give each team one challenge a game, all he has to do is come out of the dugout, say "I'd like to use one of our challenges" and play will be resumed sooner than if an argument ensued.

They may be a mid-market team but are far better off than other teams in similar markets. Their history goes to when they were the western most and southern most franchize giving them swarths of rabid fans still today in unlikely places. And keeping their AAA Affiliate in memphis was a very smart move. Long story short, they have tons of fans, which in turn equals big dollars.

Replay is a BAD idea. As was mentioned earlier attention spans already have a tough time with the sport. Its a sport for the intellectually minded in an ever increasingly dumbed-down world.

True. I'm just bitter tonight. It's tough watching your team get no-hit by one of their past rivals. There are several teams and aces I could stomach getting no-hit by. The Mets aren't one of them. Could be worse though, could've been the Brewers or Cubs :p

Guess it's similar to how Mets and Brewers fans felt in the 2006 and 2011 NLCS ;)

But like I said, time is already wasted arguing between umps and managers/players. That's time that could be spent getting the call right. I'll admit, the umpires quietly walking off the field to look at IR is not nearly as entertaining for the fans as a good old fashioned argument, but the time would be the same.

What does A-Rod and Lou Gehrig have in common? Both have 23 career grand slams....

I have a special place in my heart for Lou Gehrig, and I didn't want to see A-Rod break & tie this record - however, it was hard to be upset with the actual slam as it turned a 4-0 deficit into a tie game.

It was also the anniversary of Gehrig's last game.

What I find funny about ARod's grand slam is the story behind the kid that caught it. It's funny because of how there always seems to be a story behind the fan that catches the historic ball. The person that caught Jeter's 3,000 hit? The tickets were a birthday present from his girlfriend. The kid who caught ARod's 23rd GS? Drove 5 hours from North Carolina woth his mom to go see his first Yankees game. How was that experience for his first Yankees game?

Historic balls never seem to find the boring person who had season tickets and went to the game due to that. :D
