Cain just pitched a perfect game. Congrats to him!

First perfect game in Giants history. Hard to believe with all the great pitchers in their long history. 14 strikeouts, too, tied with Sandy Koufax for the most K's in a perfect game. Thoroughly dominating performance by a still bafflingly underrated pitcher. Glad the Giants locked him up with the big contract — he deserves it.

I'd blame being the #2 to Lincecum. With Lincecum having a dog of a year, he won't be underrated any longer that's for sure.

And in an ironic turn of events, the Mets are appealing a scoring ruling in the game last night - they believe RA Dickey deserved a No-Hitter.

That's fine, give Dickey his no-hitter because that misplay was clearly an error, and take away Santana's no hitter because the ball Beltran hit was clearly fair :p

And they got denied.

9 game winning streak for the Yankees.:)

Just sucks that we couldn't gain much ground during this 9 game streak. Damn the AL being so dominant against the NL. :D

What a great season so far. Yankees in first, Boston is struggling just to straddle .500, the Phillies suck, and the Nationals are in first( Nats are my NL team).

Cheer up, you won 2 out of 3 from the worst team in the majors.:p

A pox on you and your household. ;)

And considering 18 of our outfielders are on the disabled list, and the rest of the team are a bunch of cranky prima donnas, I take it as a moral victory. In my moments of non-rationality, I wish we'd keep Papi and Pedroia, and tell the rest of them to go screw.

I wonder if MLB.tv would refund my subscription package on the basis of my team being pathetic?

In non-Red Sox news, what the hell is wrong with Tim Lincecum?

I feel your pain, we lost Bret Gardner - and some key guys in our pen. ;)

Maybe they should give them back the chicken and beer - the excitement of it all could cause them to go on a run.

Seriously, though, is Bobby V going to last the season? I imagine if they are still in the basement at the all-star break they are going to have to do some serious re-evaluation. Injuries aside, they really are a better team than this.

I'd love to know what's wrong with Lincecum as well - he's on my fantasy team. They say he's lost a few miles off of his fastball - I wonder if it's just a tired arm? I haven't looked at his numbers, but I imagine over the course of the last few years, he's thrown a ton of innings. And strikeout guys tend to tax themselves more than a finesse guy. It really is hard to watch - he routinely gives up 5 or 6 runs a start.

Sports karma! But, if it makes you happy...at least someone will be.

Re: Valentine, I honestly don't know. I imagine he will last only because once we get Ellsbury, Crawford, Beckett, Cody Ross, and most of the pen off the DL, I expect them to win more games. Gonzalez has also been pretty un-AGon like, so I don't think he'll hit like Wilson Betemit for the rest of the season.

Beyond this season, I don't have a ton of patience to see this experiment work out. I think he's just a bad choice, and all the reports of a "toxic" clubhouse aren't convincing me otherwise. I can't see anything resembling my least favorite Red Sox season ever - 2001 - but between the end of last season and how this one has begun, they're really hard to love.

Yeah, definitely sports karma. How they handled the collapse was just pathetic. Who knows if Francona was going to come back even without the collapse, but firing him almost immediately after the collapse was just poor taste. Theo from the sounds of it was leaving no matter what so whatever there. But, how the Red Sox dealt with the whole compensation issue was poor as well.

Not to mention the amount of dirt that started to spill out about the clubhouse behavior.

To Yankee fans, if Girardi's contract was up at the end of 2011, would you consider bringing in Francona?

Ha, no, I meant dancing in another's blood is bad sports karma for you.

The Red Sox are dealing with their own, yeah, and I agree on the Francona debacle. I don't agree on the Theo compensation, though. I am more than a little annoyed that Theo basically bailed on his effed up situation, and the compensation talks have been ridiculous.

That said, this is one of the crystal-clear examples of how we are fully at the mercy of our sports teams. It helps me feel less annoyed when I remember I had nothing to do with this zoo, it's pure luck and non-involvement. Still, it's annoying when Dodgers fans are throwing me shade.

How much of it was Theo vs management getting in the way? The Red Sox ownership seems to have turned into George Steinbrenner of the 80's.

It's been said that it was primarily Cherington and Epstein just not being able to come to common ground. Which is annoying. But of course, there could be undisclosed problems because of Henry/Lucchino, I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm more than unhappy with the way things have gone with the ownership as of late. I can't see it changing any time soon, though.

There are lots of people who care. Just not the bosox fans who are having a tough year. :D

Ha, I know, I was just teasing. I am glad some people are happy! :D

This misery...well, it's starting to feel like old times. There's an awesome picture of me in my dad's arms full-blown crying when I was like 2 or 3 years old, wearing a little Red Sox shirt and hat. It still makes me smile, I need to ask my dad to dig it up.

Was Clemens guilty, yes, did the government botch the case, of course.

And add to the fact the jury are not baseball enthusiasts ready to throw the book at Bonds/Clemens for using steroids. They just went, " Seriously? We are deciding if a person should go to jail for using steroids in baseball? Who cares? Baseball is boring....".

The problem with the case is that the government was not allowed to ask certain questions regarding steroid usage. They could not ask Pettitte if he used steroids or if he was aware about Clemens using.

And we finally gain some ground in the AL East thanks to our cross town rivals, the Mets beating up on the O's.
