Nope. I would never outright root for the Yankees (with the exception of last year when we had to for playoff reasons), but I'd rather the Red Sox got their ass beat this weekend. I don't want there to be a shadow of a doubt that the ship needs to be blown up. If Moyank and others can be happy as a side effect, that works.

Thanks :)

I must say, as much as I love to hate the Sox, it just isn't as fun late in the season when one of the teams is doing poorly. There have been some great series in August and September over the years, and it's a bummer we probably won't get them this year. I'd much rather go through the Sox to win the division than the other teams. It just feels better. :D

Edit:
I'm also pretty sure Sox fans rooting for the Yankees is some kind of double jinx. :p

Sadly, Clemens was one of my favorites when he first came on the scene

Clemens on the comeback trail

Roger Clemens is on the comeback trail… sort of. The seven-time Cy Young award winner, who turned 50 years old on August 4, has signed with the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League, and is expected to start for them on Saturday against the Bridgeport Bluefish.

Clemens, who last pitched in the majors with the Yankees in 2007, has apparently been discussing plans for a return with Skeeters manager (and former major leaguer) Gary Gaetti for months. When he worked out for the Texas-based team on Monday, his fastball was clocked at 87 MPH, according to agent Randy Hendricks.

He still is my favorite, all the shenanigans aside, I still like the guy. I hope this isn't a comeback to the majors.

Even before I read the article, my first thought was he wanted to get back to the majors to push back the vote for the HOF another five years or so.

If he is throwing 89 at 50 how is he not using something.

The Dodgers have claimed Beckett and Gonzales from the Red Sox.

So now they have a 2-day window to try to come to a trade agreement, but any players in the trade must pass through waivers.

About ****ing time they dumped Beckett, but Gonzalez? He's one of the few good players on the team. Dumping him for pennies on the dollar is ridiculous, and yet another example of the complete ****ing joke management that runs this organization.

Worst franchise in sports.

Listening to MLBNetwork Radio, the rumored package to be sent to the Dodgers include A-Gone, Crawford, Beckett, and Punto.

Dodgers are idiots, IMHO. They are tying up $250 million in A-Gone and Crawford alone.

Beckett, Gonzalez, Crawford, & Punto for Loney, a PTBNL (La Rosa?), and a couple minor leaguers. I didn't like giving up Gonzalez at first, but if he's the price of getting rid of all this suck, then it's a good deal.

Hopefully the Dodgers keep snoozing and don't realize how stupid this would be for them.

If Cherington pulls this off, he should get executive of the year.

I'll drive those clowns to the airport for them. haha

Nobody seems to think this will be completed tonight - and IIRC, MLB has to approve when this much money is involved. So, we'll see.

I wonder if the Sox go after Hamilton HARD during the offseason if they dump all these guys. I also wonder how the players left on the team will react.

And Greinke. Personally, i like the trade after thinking about it more. It will be worth it later on down the road

I'm not sure Greinke would be a good fit with the Red Sox - especially coming after a year like the one they are having right now. He's had a problem with anxiety in the past, and I'm not sure he would want to deal with that circus.

done deal.

Beckett, Gonzalez, Crawford, and Punto for infielder Ivan DeJesus, OF/1B Jerry Sands, RHP's Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster, and James Loney.

The Red Sox are going to be responsible for only $10-12 million of the $272 million they owed to Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto.

Regardless of who they got back, that's a steal for Boston.

Now we actually have a chance to field a decent team for 2013. Two attitude problems and the $160 million dollar injury prone guy gone. Leaves us tons of money for pitching, a new 1B, resigning Ortiz, and possibly signing Ellsbury long term depending on his performance next year.

Randy Johnson still hit 94 on occasion the last season or two he was in the majors. Nolan Ryan still threw 96 regularly at the age of 46. And they said Clemens fastball HIT 89 but was consistently at 86-87.

It's almost all about the mechanics. Not as much strength. Take Mark McGwire in the 90's and have him pitch. He would probably throw 80 and not for a prolonged period of time vs. Greg Maddux who threw 90 and was considerably weaker and smaller and could throw all night.

I really wouldn't care if the Astros picked up Roger Clemens. What else does that organization have going for it? Their team flat out sucks in every dimension. Their farm system sucks. Their management sucks. Their coaching sucks. They aren't going to compete for atleast 4 seasons, and that's if they play every card right and their number 1 picks turn out for the best. If Clemens puts a few fans in the seats, good for them that's all that matters. I'm not sure he would be able to start, but out of the bullpen it would be pretty cool to see him again.

Los Angeles Dodgers have improved their team immediately for the better, but those contracts might handicap them greatly in 3-4 seasons.

I never liked the signing of Crawford. Signing a player for that much money at the age of 30 for his speed and defense at a non-premium position is never a good idea. He was a great player, don't get me wrong. But players almost never keep their speed and defense past 34-35. I guess that's what the free agent market has done the past decade.

Adrian definitely improves their team, and he goes back to the NL where he was clearly better. Punto helps with roster flexibility.

Still can't believe they actually took on almost all of Beckett and Crawford's contracts. Today is like Christmas for the Red Sox. They get rid of almost all of their huge contracts and get a ton of flexibility going in to next season, AND get quality prospects back? How dumb is LA to do that?

The Sox are still probably 2-3 years from putting a legit contender on the field again, but it's a step in the right direction.

Shocked that the Dodgers are eating most of the money and not forcing the Red Sox to pay more.

That and the fact that they gave the Sox two high-quality young pitching prospects, and 3 other players. I love this deal.
