Well, Bama's not playing nearly as well as last week, but at least they're up at the half. I don't get what's up with Griffith, though - missing a 24 yarder? I wonder if we'll see Bateman to start the third quarter.

Jesus Auburn wtf

No ****. I watched that game with my jaw on the floor, just mesmerized by A: how bad our quarterback is and B: just how well Jacksonville State was doing against us.

What I do know is that I am a little worried about the remainder of the season!

Looking at the rest of the scoreboard...wow, there were some damn high-scoring games this week!

Prediction: Auburn doesn't even appear in the rankings next week. Why they still have the same quarterback on the field is anyone's guess.

That was such a sad showing by Alabama. Already knew the offense was going to struggle throughout the season but the defense was a shell of past Alabama teams. There was absolutely no reason for the CB to totally leave the Ole Miss WR to help with coverage when there was the sideline to help the LB with coverage. I would not want to be in any room with Nick Saban after this game.

The Tide's loss was a combination of sloppy play leading to turnovers, missed coverage, and yes, bad luck. But their biggest problem was and will be the lack of a QB who can lead the team and get the job done consistently. Neither Coker nor Bateman can do it, and Cornwell or Morris would have been out there if Saban thought they had a chance. Bama can't be four games in still not knowing who the starter is. Not that other players aren't at fault, too, but I think that the QB mess is demoralizing and throws the team off balance.

That leaves true freshman Blake Barnett, who was going to sit out the season. But, given the situation, it might be time to start giving him some meaningful playing time, see how he does, and at least prep him for next year.

Not surprising to see Alabama lose, they just seem to lack sharpness the past couple of years. They have so much talent but so many games seem like its a struggle for them to get a win.

What a game last night. Not leaving Bryant -Denny till almost 1am sucked but what a amazing atmosphere. This has to be the second loudest game i've ever been too with the first being Alabama vs Florida in 2005..

While i am disappointed that my team lost, You can't put much blame on the Alabama defense. We had 5 turnovers giving Ole Miss 17 points and a very short field. Not many teams can say they had 5 turnover and only lost by a touchdown.

But Jake Coker became the quarterback last night. Granted he had some turnovers but he made the team his last night. The emotion he had and you could just feel the stadium supporting him. Also, not many people know this but Coker was playing last night with the flu (no excuses but damn)...

Alabama still needs to find their identity and maybe with this loss it will drive them harder.. who knows

Great game last night. Congrats to Ole Miss and thank god we don't have the problems that Auburn has... Roll Tide

This is the first I've read about Coker having the flu - if that's the case, I'd say that he played very well. And you're right that turnovers killed us. It seemed like the fumble on the opening kickoff set the tone for the game.

However, the question of what to do for the rest of the season remains. Of the QBs who have played so far, Coker is the best, and hopefully his decision-making will get better. But Bama has a very tough schedule ahead, with teams like Georgia and LSU to come. The Tide will have to be firing on all cylinders with some nitrous thrown in to have a chance against them.

And, while this season should be the priority, the coaches have to be thinking about next year, when Coker will be gone. Can Bateman improve enough, or should they consider doing something with Barnett sooner than they had planned? I'm not sure what it really means for a team to find its identity (though it's a phrase I hear often), but I suspect that having a named starting QB before the season begins or by the end of the first game at most is part of it.

I was completely baffled when Bateman started. I get that Saban said he was going to test out all their QBs but Coker had a solid first game, why would you start Bateman against a very talented Ole Miss team? Coker didn't play that well last night but Bateman looked completely lost, clearly didn't have a grasp of the playbook and when they put Coker in, things got going. We both agree that Coker isn't a McCarron or even a McElroy, but he's easily the best QB they currently have. Hopefully Coker just gets the start and the offense will sort itself out (hopefully).

The defense, totally different story. That was not an Alabama defense under Saban. Too many players trying to do too much but not taking care of their assignments. So many times there was supposed to be safety help but the safety was nowhere near the play. Of course that late TD, leaving your man to cover the QB. Just a frustrating game all around because its not everyday you see a Nick Saban team play the way they did.

Moving forward, the only thing Alabama has going for them is strength of schedule. Alabama win, there's a good chance they get back into the playoff.

Side note, how badly do you think Alabama misses Amari Cooper? They had zero WR threat. Zero.

I hate to say this, but a number of commentators on ESPN, Fox Sports and CBS Sports now openly wonder if we may end up with NO SEC teams in the four-team playoffs. With good reason: the terrible to mediocre (at best!) quarterback of just about every SEC team this season so far.

I don't know, I think LSU (while a bit one dimensional at the moment) looks really good. George is not bad and I wouldn't write off Alabama from the play offs. Texas A&M hasn't lost a game (yet).

I think its way to early to write off an entire conference so early on in the season

I've been looking around trying to find corroboration of AlabamaSlammer's note about Coker playing with the flu. So far, I've found one web posting that says that he had a fever of 103 yesterday morning. I'm surprised that none of the al.com beat writers have picked up on this, however. Hopefully, the truth will come out tomorrow. If this is accurate, it's amazing that Coker was able to play at all, and it would explain Bateman starting. It would also put the game in a new perspective. Not that Bama didn't make many mistakes, but they only lost by six points.

I agree about Cooper (Amari, not Bateman), though. He was able to catch passes even when the ball wasn't perfectly thrown or when he was well-covered. Alabama needs a bona-fide long ball threat who can break open a game, or at least pick up first downs on third and long. What I've seen them do so far is throw passes that are too short to make up the yardage or try to rush to move the chains. Henry is very hard to stop when he builds up momentum, but he can be brought down early in his run.

Seriously..how long was that fourth quarter? I think it was almost two hours in itself.[/quote]

but what a amazing atmosphere. This has to be the second loudest game i've ever been too with the first being Alabama vs Florida in 2005..

Weird. There was quite a while where the commentators were talking about how quiet it was. It was practically silent for some time in the third quarter.

I gotta say that it was hilarious seeing the looks on Bama fans' faces. There were even videos made today of just the look depression, like someone had just stolen their puppy. Like they had never seen a loss before and didn't know how to deal with it. But, when the crowd started filing out well before the game was over, that sealed it for me.

...thank god we don't have the problems that Auburn has

Ooohhh....too soon. Oh, wait...it's 2015, never mind.

Yeah, I guess our money dried up.:p

That was another thing that annoyed me, especially early on. Alabama had a few 3 and short situations and whenever they tried quick slants to gain the first down, the ball was always thrown behind and not in front of the first down marker which resulted in 'Bama coming up short. These were easy completions and not plays where they had to be precise. Just a bad game overall.
