People complain about a $1,000 phone but buy a $3 a day Starbucks every day for a grand a year. The phone costs no more if you average it over only a single year. It does infinitely more than that brief coffee drink, shames the sum of all computational power that put a man on the moon, and, oh yeah can pay for that coffee with the touch of my finger, after helping me find that Starbucks, (and the other 100 within 5 city blocks) and remember where I parked, as I share a selfie of me drinking that coffee with the world.

I really think we have become numb to what these devices do for us.

Well after the last price rise Apple made, using brexit as nothing more then an excuse, it is now one dollar to every pound on their devices so it will literally be £1000 plus, according to this report.
It was a result of the drop in value of the base rate of the pound. When you take into account that US prices are always shown tax free and our prices include 20% VAT the one dollar = one pound conversion rate is only a couple of pennies out and not the massive rip-off that most people think.

I see no mention of ports and the mention of wireless charging has me nervous. I assume apple is aiming to remove all ports. If so, then goodbye iPhone. This Lightning to headphone dongle is annoying enough.

If this is true, it could be a major mistake by Apple. They've made small **** ups all year and to top it of with a phone that costs $1000 at the same time as we have OnePlus and Huawei who are closing in on Apple for less than half the price is ridiculous. I bet it only comes with 32GB as well..

I think it is partly compensation of a 3 year life cycle for each phone becoming more normal (which a lot of people here mention often) and less to do with manufacturing cost. Considering the 5s actually works pretty darn well with iOS 10 still it could even get longer as time goes on. It of course might not be the best move as a bunch of people who may have upgraded at 2 years might now not because of the cost although I am sure there are many clever bean counters at Apple figuring what our tollerences are.

I'm still loving my 6+ and hoping to get another two years out of it.

Wow, 2 years more? I switched to 7 Plus because my 6+ was unbearably slow and buggy, and that was only after 2.5 years with the thing!

Does it have Force Touch?

Does it have Apple Pay?

Does it have seamless pairing like with AirPods?

Does it have iMessage?

Does the battery last for a day?

Do I have to deal with burn in screens?

No, thank you, that and a 1000 more reasons. And the iPhone doesn't explode.

um, were you high when you were writing this? It's not very coherent.

I'll wait for a $2,000 iPhone. That, to me, is the sweet spot. Goooo Tim Cook! Milk these Apple cows.

How can the next iPhone become more expensive with almost all ports and buttons removed??? /s

lets not forget the samsung galaxy i9000 had the price of 460$ and now it will be around 800$? the iphone 2G has the price of 599$ and now the iphone 7 has the price of 649$....so apple devices stood study in price range, others try to copy the prices

Apple has learned nothing, nor has it listened to its customers pleas to stop overpricing their gear.
The proper name for this phone should be the "Middle Finger".

Apple just reported record profits. What lesson are they supposed to have learnt?

People love their Apple products. If you find them overpriced, there is no shortage of other people willing to pay a premium for their products.

It is the Apple critics have learnt nothing. Year after year, they claim Apple is doomed for whatever reason they dig out of their behind and year after year, they have been proven dead wrong.

When will you people ever learn?

There is no competition in iOS macOS tvOS or watchOS...so you make your own price and have your own people in your own ecosystem. If you dont like their OS or their price...my god there are so many alternatives and other OS

Yes i'm good with this as long as it supports the Apple Pencil.

The funny part of this article is how many people are fooling themselves into thinking they won't buy it. Apple does what they want every year. People complain about something...and then they buy it anyway because apple has mastered the art of titillating your senses. Plus, monthly payment plans take away a lot of the pain for most people when it comes to paying for a phone, especially those that upgrade yearly. Think about it from those people's perspective: what does the cost matter when I'm not going to fully pay it off anyway? Basically they are just renting phones each year.

If you plan to keep your iPhone for more than 2 years (most people on this forum don't) then yea that's a tough price to pay for a phone. If you're going to upgrade in 12 months anyway then it's less of a problem - except for the fact that any phone will likely require a $300+ down payment if it's over $1,000 since most carrier's only let you finance around $750 per device. If there's no down payment then monthly will be $40+. Just look at whatever your carrier is asking for an iPad Pro that's above $1k and that will be the same plan for the iPhone.

I have no idea what I'd do. All I really want from apple at this point on the hardware side is wireless charging, fast charging, and OLED display (mainly for improved battery life) and a smaller overall footprint. The rest of what I want is software related. If apple gave me that hardware I might be tempted to upgrade. But, if I'm paying $1k+ for a phone I guarantee you I'm keeping it for many years.

So that'll be £900 in the UK? For a phone .. jeez .. the £600 I paid for my iPhone 7 is around the limits of what I'm prepared to pay for a phone. I might upgrade if they stick an OLED and bigger battery in their £600 phones (and why not? You can buy an Android phone with OLED for that price point) but I'm not upgrading for a small upgrade of what I already have for £600.

PEople will pay whatever Apple tells them to and that is why they get away with pricing stuff so high. Personally I couldn't justify paying £1000 for an iPhone so I will have to hang on to my 7 Plus.

Well yeah .. things become more expensive, including taxes phones were well beyond the 1000$ mark for a long time.
I wouldn't mind the price if the features are worth it, just don't serve us the same lukewarm updates as these past phones. Bring something substantial to the table and I am all in.

Inevitable I suppose. Cynically one might say Apple just want more cash in the bank (as we know they're struggling!) but, on the flip side of that, if you want even more advanced features and a design that differentiates you from any number of generic Chinese android devices, that is hard to execute, then it's going to cost you.

Personally? I don't care that much. I don't do a lot with my phone - use a few core apps, take a few pictures, surf the net. So I think my iPhone days are rapidly coming to an end sadly. Still rocking a 6 Plus which is doing OK but starting to experience occasional slowdown that wasn't there at the start.. so maybe time to look towards something Androidy again.

The iP7+ is up to $1,569 in Australia, which is about $1,200 in US, so we're already there. Catch up lol.

You can't compare different currencies like that .. we are comparing increases in price on the same currency/country.

If your already paying 1.5k for a 7plus down under expect to be paying at least 1.8k for the next flagship model with a decent storage size if this predicted US price is true.

If $1000 is all you want for it, I'll take it.

We're going to have to go to another country - it's not legal to buy organs in the US.

Also, I had been leaning towards upgrading from my 6+ to this year's iPhone, but if Apple wants to charge that price, I'll pass. Maybe I'll buy it next year when it's cheaper.
Man, you beat me to it lol.
