True, though I very much doubt that this will be a problem for West Ham this season as they bought intelligently during the transfer window, and seem to be better balanced - as a team - than was the case last season.
Agreed. To be honest we’ve been okay since the restart last season. Keeping Antonio fit is important but we are also scoring elsewhere and defending better.
Also it’s a very topsey turvey season.

I missed much of the match (not that I missed much) because Decent Brother was on the phone for over a hour, and we discussed events of the past week, and didn't touch once upon matters relating to football.

Not a good start for Arsenal. A goal down after a minute and a second ruled offside by a dodgy VAR decision.
Ah, no.

Villa now beating Arsenal by three goals. This is not the villa of last season, although Arsenal seem to have some similarities.

Sigh.

I had hoped this this silliness and sloppiness would have been a thing of the past.

Mind you,I am probably in a minority, but I would have kept Martínez (and had Leno as the reserve goalie, or, as a joint No 1) - Arsenal's really good spell last season coincided with his period between the sticks.

I didn't expect Arsenal to be behind 3-0. Maybe the fog.

Neither did I.
Villa have transformed from the side that just escaped relegation. Shame as I like to see Villa struggle!

Not a good day - or night - at the office.

But, very well done Villa.

A draw at the Etihad is not a bad result. the penalty call was...well, we are used to this handball nonsense by now I guess. Man City are wobbling but are still a very potent force and arguably play better against a team like Liverpool, who will permit a game of space and movement, versus an opponent looking merely to defend and feed off scraps. They'll climb up the table soon enough, especially if KDB stays fit.

I did love Klopp's decision to NOT make a decision on which three of his four forwards to start. He started all four!

Trent's injury is a blow though. The injuries are going to be a major issue this season for every club.
What is going on with La Liga!?

It's gone even more mad than the Premier League!!!

Both Barca and Real are having major money problems just at a time when both squads need expensive rebuilds.

Boo Hoo. The schadenfreude-o-meter is off the charts.

Villa have been transformed this season.
I think where they may struggle is over Xmas with the fixture congestion and (like most “normal” clubs), a lack of depth to cover for the inevitable injuries.
Setting themselves up nicely in the early season is a great way for that not to matter though.
I can’t see them them struggling in the late season like they did last time around.

They've had some great results but are inconsistent. On the other hand, there are more than three clubs that are clearly in worse shape, so unless they suffer a prolonged collapse in form they should be quite safe and might even hang around the top half of the table in this very unpredictable season.

The FA Chairman Greg Clarke has resigned after making a fool of himself in front of parliament, essentially confirming all the accusations against the FA leadership as a bunch of out-of-touch old fogeys.

Football stands in dire need of strong, honest leadership right now. And it just isn't there, because nothing can be permitted to to ever stand in the way of any opportunity to make more money.

Agreed. Very poor showing to be honest.

Agreed.

He didn't cover himself in glory, at all, and appeared to be excruciatingly and obliviously stuck fast in a mindset that was already out of date twenty years ago.

Well yes. Especially with all the focus on taking a knee and BLM, it seems incomprehensible that anyone in ANY position would use that word! I can only think of one word that would be more offensive.

Joe Gomez apparently suffered a serious injury in training for England. Klopp's resourcefulness will be stretched to the limit.
Saw that. No details as yet. It's an absolutely disastrous series of injuries. Liverpool may be a rich club with good depth, but losing two of your three best center backs plus the world's best right back is pretty catastrophic. And more injuries are sure to follow given the demands of the calendar. Matip has only just returned and now it's all on him.
