Terrible result for the Hammers (with a whiff of bad luck in there perhaps), and a rather unusual comeback effort from the Arsenal.

Brendy Rogers' Leicester knock Man Utd out of the cup in a battle of two sides weakened through injury and rotation. Rogers went all-in with the players he had available but OGS started Fernandes, McTominay and I think Cavani from the bench. Would love to see Leicester win a cup this season, and though Man City re always the default favorite for everything anymore I think Leicester are good enough to do it with a little luck.

If Leicester play the way they did today, they are more than capable of beating City. It was a very good team performance today. But in fairness Man Utd didn’t really turn up.

Excellent result from Leicester, and I'd love to see them collect some silver this year.

Re Arsenal, such a comeback is less surprising than it was; under Mikel Arteta that awful attitude of slumped shoulders, and defeated body language, - that air of collapse - when Arsenal go behind, is a lot less evident than it was.

However, to come back, fight back, and claim a point from the game having gone three goals down, is an impressive achievement.

Here we go for another screaming session... Real Sociedad vs Barcelona and Vasco da Gama vs Botafogo.

Please, Vasco, win at least one game...

Real Sociedad 1-6 Barcelona. I will happily take it. Dest scored twice!!

Now for the bad news... In what was a preview of what is to be seen in Brazilian second division, Vasco 1-1 Botafogo. One of the worst games I’ve ever seen. I wish I had never watched it. My God...

Very poor from United, but not exactly unexpected after playing a tough match in Milan just a few days ago, whereas Leicester has had the entire week off. Also, Ndidi and Thielemans would be unquestioned starters at United, they just embarrassed Fred and Matic out there.

Donny van de Beek is a good footballer, but simply does not fit into the way this United team plays. I could see him being sold as soon as this summer, but I think that depends partly on Paul Pogba's long term future. I don't know, is there a way back in for Jesse Lingard the way he's playing right now?

I haven't really watched much Brazilian football. Back in MLS, my club (Columbus) have a history of recruiting Argentinians, so I am a little more exposed to their club football than Brazil's.

"Ings could replace Aguero at Man City"

If this plays out, I will not be happy. Unless we get $75m+ for him, that is...then we can go buy ourselves another $3m League One striker...

Just to let the footies out here know that there is world cup qualifying matches TODAY (march 24)
i just found out while visiting a sports website.
France is playing, i thought they were an automatic draw?
lets see how many goals they surrender today.....

I have only one fun note to share about my team... I think we have a game today for the Rio de Janeiro State Ch'ship against Macaé... so, this is the thing:

A former midfielder left the team in 2020 after being kicked out by one of the managers we had, apparently for bad behavior, gave an interview this week saying that "Vasco da Gama is not a Disneyland", to which our former "corrupt" president (we had elections, and now we have a new president in charge) said this:

"At least he is correct... Vasco is not a Disneyland... maybe I could have made the decision to fire Goofy way earlier than we did" LOL! pwned him.

Pretty boring slate of internationals this weekend for the most part. For Americans there is a Mexico - USA Olympic qualifier tonight though those are going to be U23 squads. And a friendly against Jamaica for the senior squad (yawn).

I see a furore over Trent being dropped from the England squad...not bothered. His form has been off (though improving) and he needs rest badly. He's still England's best right back in my opinion, but at the moment others should probably be called up. He's young and there is no question he will be a starter in major tournaments going forward.

The level of depth England has at RB is pretty crazy right now. TAA is for sure the top option, but there are a lot of very good players who won't even make the squad to go to the Euros or World Cup.

Gareth Southgate did wonders with getting his young squad to overachieve at the last World Cup. Now that he has such a deep and talented squad to draw from, he needs to adapt to get the best out of them. Excessive caution will only hold them back.

We finally won a game this year.... against the worst team in our state championship... at least there are flashes of good players in our Under 20 squad coming up... like the third goal, 4:05 min into this video:

Coming up next... Spain vs Greece.

Trent (in form) is an incredible offensive talent and yet still a very good defender. But you're absolutely right, there is a long line of excellent players behind him who are plenty good enough for England. He's my choice for starter when fit and in form, but it's a very competitive position. If only a few of them were left footed, eh?

Although my Man U team played awful in the first half, Pogba came to the rescue with a late goal in the second half.

Spain was awful today. Granted, the ref made a mistake and gave Greece an inexistent penalty, but Spain was unable to get past their 10-men defence for the entire 90 minutes.

I'm not surprised to see that Greece still plays like a very small brazilian fourth division team since 2004, when they beat Portugal with a counter after defending for the entire game. I wonder if they know how to attack/propose the game when they need to win. Yeah, I do not like defensive minded teams.

With the exception of the 1994 Brazilian World Cup team, that was a defensive minded team with a powerful attack.

Morata played well, though.
