I have to say I'm not noticing the benefits of OIS that much even in low light. Both take awesome pictures in the dark with only minute differences in background detail.

I didn't spend enough time with the camera to really form a proper opinion but it looked fantastic from the couple of shots I took. That being said, last night I took a couple of pictures with my iphone 6 where i kept shaking when the shutter went off....i took about 4 shots thinking they would all be blurry and every single one came out crystal clear so whatever image stabilization they're using on the 6 is fantastic as well.

Agreed. I think the fast shutter time allows forgiveness with minor shaking.

This forum while you have to wade through the bs and children posting opinion as fact has a lot of great posts and users.

Let's start off by saying I love the 6+ screen and screen size, man is it a great phone. I am a lucky one too my phone has no dead pixels, straight line on the back no bending :) this baby is in pristine working order. I own an ipad mini retina and when that and the ipad air first came out i went with the mini retina as it felt more comfortable to me.

I always said that if the mini retina was a phone as well I'd rock that puppy straight to the face for a phone call (in jest) so I thought the 6+ would be the right screen size. It really is.

The problem comes in the form factor I think for me, FOR ME FOR ME (I emphasize that as I welcome opinions) but I am not trying to impose my thought on the 6 being better or 6+ being better let's just know or assume they are the same phone with different screen sizes.

the 6+ with it's thin form factor it is basically too wide for me, I feel it difficult to hold for long period of times for both phone calls and general use.

I said when the rumors came out of the two sizes I'm going with the bigger because I could never own a 4.7 knowing that a bigger screen was available in the 5.5 (consider me excessive)

I guess my adult conscience is finally winning and leaning me toward the 6. out of all the posts I saw, I think I only saw one person saying they went from 6+ to 6 and regret it and want to go back to the 6+

Those that have exchanged was it easy to exchange at your store? did they give you a phone even if it did not necessarily say they have stock?

are you happy with the exchange and staying at 4.7 or thinking of going back?

*edit* not sure if it matters but I'm 6"1 180lbs am very sports active (normal to avg size hands Id say)

I did it and it's tons better for me, I always felt like I was going to drop the 6 plus. I did love the screen though. Maybe the next iteration will have smaller bezels then I'll check it out again. But for now the 6 is perfect for me.

It really bugs me that Samsung was able to put a large 5.7" screen into a phone that is shorter than the iPhone 6 Plus -- yet Apple can't (or won't?) get a 5.5" screen into a shorter body. I so badly want the larger 5.5" screen of the iPhone 6 Plus. But the phone is just too darn tall for me.

Roger this.

After the first couple months of ownership of my Note 3, I started noticing that almost every single picture someone took of me had me carrying the Note 3 in my hand. I looked like a tool (well, more so than usual). It really stuck with me that my phablet was pretty much an accessory now, and one that I was hand-carrying all the time because it was just too difficult to constantly stow it away in something where I'd have to dig it out to use it.

Given how many "Return it/Buy one for a few days and return it" posts I'm seeing, Apple should be relatively flush with refurb stock this go-round.

I'm glad to see your post, because it gets at a concern I had. I have the 6 and was thinking of biggrading to the 6+, but was worried in part that I'd have to carry the thing half the time. Maybe I should stick with what I have (which is awesome, BTW!).

I agree, and while the form factor isn't the best, I look for them to reduce the height of the phone with the S version or more likely the 7, but maintain the larger screen.

At this point, it's a small tradeoff for a 5.5in screen. I absolutely love it and the phone still fits in my front pocket and doesn't creep out, so my way of life hasn't shifted much.

I was considering switching 6+ for the 6, until I purchased a silicone Apple case. I now feel less concerned about losing my grip, and the phone is less awkward to use. The silicone case doesn't add too much bulk, but just enough to make the 6+ more enjoyable.

I have the leather case on my 6+ which is okay. I'm going to try the silicone since I keep hearing good things about it. As for the size, I'm used to it. Remember in a few short months the market is going to be flooded with 6 and 6+. Seeing a larger phone isn't going to be a big deal at all. It's not like when the first iPhone came out where people looked at you with envy. The larger sizes will be the new normal.

They can't reduce it much so long as they keep the physical home button.

Most likely the S version is going to be a spec upgrade and not a design change. That being said, in 2016 is when we will see a design change. 2015 will probably be about specs.

I would imagine they would reduce at least the top with the 7, maybe not the home button. But if they incorporate touch ID into the screen or have some part of the screen become the "home button" section.. who knows! :)

Sadly I'm joining the ranks of swapping from 6+ to 6. I've used many a large phone including the note series and LG-G3. I'll echo the sentiment about all the bezel and non screen space not being ideal. It definitely is too long and for me if I'm going to carry a much larger device then there needs to be some significant differentiator over the smaller more ergonomic model.
Say what you will about samsung, but they've differentiated their flagship S5/Note models with software and hardware. The note always has a hardware bump, s pen and software unique to the device. On the 6+ OIS is great, but the difference is quite small in the photos. 1080p screen is gorgeous and extra battery is great, but I need more to make that jump for a year. I also noticed a difference in performance as well and find the 6 to be smoother in general. Maybe it's the odd scaling performed by the device--I'm looking forward to the Anandtech review. It'll be fun to see where the 6S plus lands and how the apps and software mature over the next year, but for now at least I'm rolling with the 6.

I was able to acquire a Plus today at an Apple Store. Now I can do real world day to day utilization and not just playing around with a demo at a retailer.

After a few hours I already know this is going to be as hard a decision as the non Retina Mini versus the larger iPad.

Apple is going to make me lose some sleep deciding between the two. Oh well, oh what fun comparing the two daily is going to be. Looking forward to the experience.

Just give it a chance. The large screen is something to get used too. It seems like you're willing to make an effort if you purchased it for a demo period. Just decided what device is best for you and try to not look at price difference.

Yeah.....somehow getting Touch ID on the home screen is intriguing. But I have no idea whether that's even technically possible.

But with the current design I can't imagine they would shorted the top and leave the bottom unchanged. Would make the device fairly asymmetrical.

Great thread, and excellent discussion. I bought the 6 last week and found the experience to be quite the opposite. I felt it was too small and regretted buying it over the plus. The other day I managed to finally hunt down a plus, Space Gray, Verizon, 128 GB and had the opportunity to play around with them both side by side. The plus has definitely made me satisfied for what I was looking for. It is now funny looking at how small the 5 is compared to it. I got the leather case which adds good grip and a side pouch, I don't like putting these in my pocket. Perfect combo.

It's like you said though, it's personal perspective and opinion. I'm glad Apple gave us the choice this year.

Once the "Plus" mentality has worn off I think there will be a lot of regret from those that remained caught up in the hysteria of their purchase, wishing they had bought the iPhone 6 (it's a phone, it's got features, it's just not "PLUS problems")

Nope, love the plus

What's a side pouch? Please don't say it's a fanny pack? :(

Does anyone know if I exchange my 6+ for the 6 will I have to wait for the upgrade eligibility to go back on the line or is it a simple exchange? Verizon is my carrier and I purchased at the Apple store.

I know I don't qualify but if I had to choose one I'll go with the 6. Next year hopefully when I'll buy I'll buy the 6s and not the 6s plus or whatever the hell it will be called

Just called apple, I have ATT but lucky for you the apple rep said she's heard Verizon takes 24-72 hours to reset eligibility back which means you might be without a phone for a few days. Best thing to do in my opinion just purchase the phone outright for a few days with a credit card then when your eligibility is available again just go back and return and rebuy the same phone with the upgrade price. That's what I'll do if I decide to exchange my 6+.

It is shorter, but it is also wider.

Thanks for the info. Looks like a huge hassle just to do a simple exchange. Guess I should not have sent my 5 to Gazelle yesterday.

Swapped my 6+ for a 6 today at the apple store and never looked back. The negatives of carrying phablet around, getting it in and out of a pocket, and difficulty for one handed use were outweighed any positives of the great battery life and camera. The 6 feels like the perfect size. I have a iPad mini 2 and use that if I want a bigger screen to watch movies. The 6+ was just way too impractical and inconvenient for me. I am loving the 6.

Great thread

Ive not seen either, here in NZ release was yesterday, and I work for a Telco so I cannot buy from my workplace yet.

Lots of great and useful comments. I played with a 5.7 Note, found it fine, although the 6Plus has more bezel, so my reachability will be less. I am seeing a common comment, that the decreased use of the Plus due to inconvenience getting it out to use. Add bend gate, and I am considering holding off with my 5S, as I gather that 5S to 6 isn't that great a change.

The ideal will be reduced upper and lower bezel, there is room to reduce even keeping the same size home button. Will 6S Plus address bend gate? Hard to say, probably, although my use case should be ok. Will it reduce bezels? No.

I will try, and I will see what return policy my telco has. I can see me holding till next year, and this thread has been a great real life review

I was on the fence for a couple of days after I got the 6 Plus last week, but I've decided to keep it. In my opinion, the size thing is something you'll get used to. Like the now archaic predictive text thing with the old Nokia phones, Blackberry qwerty keyboards, etc. We all adapt.

But I do wear size L or XL gloves, so that probably helps, too. Either way, both great phones. Just get what you think will fit best and you'll adapt to it.
