That took a lot longer than I thought it would. Kudos to everyone who kept the commentary positive and constructive up to this point...7 pages and almost two full days without a smarta$$ might be a record around here!

My analogy fits but I agree it was unnecessary and unconstruvtive. I apologize.

I suppose I take issue with the profound lack of foresight at the expense of others. I knew quite some time ago that a large phone appealed to me from a user perspective but was unworkable for me to store or transport on my person. How so many people cannot correctly reach their own conclusion before purchase is beyond me.

Knocking a quarter of an inch off the height is not going to magically make the + feel like a smaller phone. Its not going to become magically pocketable.

You want a big phone, you get a big phone.

After handling the Galaxy Note 4 and LG G3 along with the 6 Plus for a while at a Best Buy earlier today, I'm tempted to disagree. In my admittedly brief (20 mins or so) experience messing with the 6 Plus, the biggest problem I was having was that I wanted to cradle a bottom corner of the phone in my palm, and the large bottom bezel prevented me from getting my thumb high up on the phone (despite the fact that my hands are quite large).

As a result, one-handing the phone requires shifting the whole phone up and down in the hand before tapping what I want. I didn't find reachability particularly effective in many instances because my thumb is too long to comfortably tap the home button when cradled. To use that, you basically need to let the phone rest on your fingers, but because it's so long it feels top-heavy when you do this and I feel like it may slip out of my hand if I'm not extremely careful with thumb placement.

Although both the Note 4 & G3 are wider and thicker than the 6 Plus, I found them slightly easier to hold because of the lack of a large bottom bezel and a better center of gravity for single-handed use. Of course, the width of those phones makes them slightly painful to use like this for extended periods.

TL;DR: I think the 6 Plus would be perfect if the top & bottom bezels could be cut down significantly and would make the phone very comfortable to use. Hopefully Apple can find a way to work Touch ID into the touchscreen (or at least part of it) and cut down the bezels for the iPhone 7.

I can't imagine the Touch ID will ever be part of the screen. It's a 500dpi camera in that home button, not a standard touch panel. And the metal ring is what activates the camera to recognize your fingers.

After 1 week of using my 6 Plus, it has been great device and will still be a great device. I don't plan on returning my 6 Plus for a 6. For me a 4.7" is still to small for my viewing pleasure and I prefer the 5.5". Of course different stokes for different folks.

I've even thought of getting the iPhone 6 to test it but that isn't going to happen as I can just visit Apple store and play with the demo. But after comparing the two. the 6 Plus is a winner for me. iPhone 6 is just to small, and I can't stand looking at it.

I did own a Galaxy S5, and I cannot imagine going to a 4.7" from a 5.1".

Yes I'm 5'11" and I have no problem holding my 6 Plus and I have no issue using it one-handedly.

Edit: Not to mention that the battery life on my 6 Plus is just AWESOMENESS. 17 Hours of Usage (of course 3-4 of listening to music from that).

I exchanged my 6 Plus for a 6 today. I am going to miss the 1080p screen and OIS, but the 6 feels so much better in one hand. Less likely for me to drop it while on a busy subway train or in a crowd being jostled or bumped while i'm trying to read. Like Zinthar said, once they trim the bezels a bit i'll make the jump immediately. But the 6 is just as good, and will work for me just as well as the Plus did for the past week.

I'd get the smaller if it has equally good battery. Have to admit the 6 plus is quite a pain to use since its heavy and big for a phone. After all portability is the most important thing to a phone. But I still keep it since I don't need to worry about the battery

For me when I owned the 6+ I thought it was cool having a great battery in theory but I am always around a charger and so far I am on two days on my six and still have 26% battery life after its first full charge. I felt that the battery life on the 5S was sufficient and the six should have a bit better battery in either case I have a charger at my work computer in the car and I was in there man stands so your miles may vary per person and the way they use your phone for me it has not been in an issue. The same way even if you have a performance on the sixth and the 6% been the same even though both have one gig of RAM I guess I am just not as a demanding customer as some others from the phone

I had the creep and got the 6. In one day I knew that the 6+ was the phone for me. Really it's just an adjustment. I had been so comfortable with the smaller size for so long. I am happy that I gave it a try but having the big screen wins for me.

This forum while you have to wade through the bs and children posting opinion as fact has a lot of great posts and users.

Let's start off by saying I love the 6+ screen and screen size, man is it a great phone. I am a lucky one too my phone has no dead pixels, straight line on the back no bending :) this baby is in pristine working order. I own an ipad mini retina and when that and the ipad air first came out i went with the mini retina as it felt more comfortable to me.

I always said that if the mini retina was a phone as well I'd rock that puppy straight to the face for a phone call (in jest) so I thought the 6+ would be the right screen size. It really is.

The problem comes in the form factor I think for me, FOR ME FOR ME (I emphasize that as I welcome opinions) but I am not trying to impose my thought on the 6 being better or 6+ being better let's just know or assume they are the same phone with different screen sizes.

the 6+ with it's thin form factor it is basically too wide for me, I feel it difficult to hold for long period of times for both phone calls and general use.

I said when the rumors came out of the two sizes I'm going with the bigger because I could never own a 4.7 knowing that a bigger screen was available in the 5.5 (consider me excessive)

I guess my adult conscience is finally winning and leaning me toward the 6. out of all the posts I saw, I think I only saw one person saying they went from 6+ to 6 and regret it and want to go back to the 6+

Those that have exchanged was it easy to exchange at your store? did they give you a phone even if it did not necessarily say they have stock?

are you happy with the exchange and staying at 4.7 or thinking of going back?

*edit* not sure if it matters but I'm 6"1 180lbs am very sports active (normal to avg size hands Id say)

I can very much relate OP.

I've been using my 6 Plus for a week now and everyday so far I gone from absolutely loving the thing (the screen! The battery life! The landscape view! The app potential!) to resenting my choice and thinking the 6 would be better for me and back again to loving the damned thing. I have a serious love/hate relationship with it.

It would seem I love the plus when I'm sat around at home or at my desk in work; but when it comes to using it on the move I struggle to use it. What's worse when I am on the move and *not* using it I feel like I have to carry it as it's distracting in my pocket — I'm constantly worried/thinking about it.

And the truth is I still use it how I used every iPhone before it: in portrait mode, one handed. The landscape mode and keyboard have rarely been used and I resent each and every time I've tried to do something one handed and failed because it's too cumbersome.

I think I'm going to exchange for a 6 this week. It's what would suit me best but I can absolutely see the appeal of the Plus, I just can be doing with the compromise.

But I am absolutely going to miss the gorgeous screen and astounding battery life.

To those who have exchanged, I bought mine out right (I'm in the UK) is it as simple as walking in and asking to swap it and refund the difference? Or do I need to reserve one?

+1 exactly the same way I feel about my 6 Plus. One moment I love it (usually when I'm at home) and the next, I'm having doubts as to whether this really is the right phone for me (when I'm trying to use it outside). It's difficult to handle, uncomfortable and dangerous to use one-handed. But the screen and battery life is what makes me want to keep it.

I'm going to give the iPhone 6 a try and see how it goes and make my decision. I'm just worried that the iPhone 6 is a little smaller than my liking. :|

I feel the exact way. How funny, at least I am not alone. That being said my best bet I believe is going to go with the 6, therefore I'll probably exchange my 6+ this week. It might be a little small for my liking but at least I'll be able to "use" it with my lifestyle and not worrying about dropping it as much and I'll also be able to use it one handed when needed. I just don't think I'm ready for the big 5.5 in "phablet" yet. I'll have to go through some baby steps. Came from the 4" iphone 5 to 5.5 is too big of a jump for me. I'll have to go to 4.7 screen size first and next year when they do the upgrades, if I am wanting a bigger screen then 4.7, I'll go to the next size up whatever the plus is upgraded to next year. Sounds like a good plan to me, definitely going to put it into action this week!

Great thread, personally I am massively torn between the two. I had a 5.5 delivered on launch day and love so many things about it however seem to miss having a small compact device that is capable of so much. I picked up a 4.7 today at the Apple Store and will play with it for a week and then return one. Below are my thoughts, I know most people probably don't care but reading what everyone else has written in this thread helped me tons.

So far, things I prefer about the 5.5
On-screen keyboard size
The resolution of the display, fit much more on screen and photos look awesome
The physical finish of the device, better than the 4.7

Stuff I prefer about the 4.7
More compact
Easier one handed use
Minor but noticeably better performance. By this I mean it doesn't reload safari as often, doesn't have any lag or stutter when doing anything involving an animation, you can tell the 5.5 is having to think more because of all those extra pixels.

Stuff that is different that probably shouldn't be:
As mentioned above, the physical finish of the 5.5 is better than the 4.7 (..that I picked up, they are all manufactured in different factories so don't assume all 4.7s will be the same). A few things: the back of the 5.5 is very smooth, the 4.7 has a slight roughness about it, difficult to describe but definitely noticeable. also, massively minor but I noticed it, the Touch ID sensor on the 4.7 has rough edges, the 5.5 is smooth. I checked and they were manufactured in different factories so that may explain the differences. Also the 4.7 has a few dead camera sensor pixels, the 5.5 has none (makes no difference to the final image, you can check your own iPhone by putting camera into slow-mo mode and covering the sensor, then look for small White dots on the screen)

Haha, I already saw your thread earlier on my way home from work and gave it a try. Got a score of 11 on that and almost dropped my 6 Plus whilst trying to hold it one-handed and read your thread  :D

I doubted the 'scientific' accuracy of the test, but still gave it a shot. :) Seems like I should go for the 6 according to your test.

It shouldn't be scientific anyways. It's just that there are so many people simply not aware of what an iPhone 6 or an iPhone 6 Plus would mean for them, so I tried to list about every difference in a "test" so you can see in total which iPhone you might like better. ;)
If you try to hold your plus in one hand and almost drop it, I think you would indeed be a 6 person ;)

I swapped mine out today for a 6. I LOVED the Plus, but like you it was just a little too wide to hold comfortably (I'm 5'10").

Return process is easy but if they don't have the 6 you want to replace it you're out of luck. They won't just pull a phone out to replace yours. I'd make sure ahead of time that your store has the 6 you're wanting to trade the Plus for.

Lastly, the 6 is going to feel ridiculously small after having the 6 Plus. Don't worry, you will adjust and will love the size! :D

Those returning your pluses, is this just in the US? I'm sure in the UK if you open and use a product then you can't return the item unless its faulty or is apple different? It must cost them a fortune having all these phones returned that they can no longer sell as new

Here in the USA we get a 14 day return policy with iPhones if we buy from Apple (which actually kinda sucks because 30 is usually the return policy for everything else).

I was almost on the same boat as the OP. I always wanted a 6+ and have had it since launch day. Recently when I saw the 6 of my colleague, I started thinking about exchanging 6+ for the 6 due to the form factor. I am also 6'1" and 185lbs, used to be a pro athlete.

My colleague was nice enough to lend me her phone for a couple hours to use and compare side by side, something that I was not able to do in Apple store as they have the two phones on two different tables.

Eventually, I decided to keep my 6+ due to its screen real estate and better camera, which are important to me. The double tap gesture to bring down the top screen turns out to be very useful, once you get used to it. I am willing to learn to adapt to the bigger size, but it's a nice compromise.
Agree with your points. The double tap is a nice option for one handed use.

I am quite happy with the 6+ for the same reasons. I use a Pelican Voyager case usually without the piece with the belt clip attached. It provides excellent security without adding much bulk. I have no problems with it in either jeans or shorts pockets. I take it to the gym and have no issues there either.

I know people are making quick decisions because of the return policy window, but I bet that after a while many would get used to the 6+ and the 6 would seem too small.

You can return your phone in the 14 day period here in the UK as well

Honestly, if you pick-up the 6 Plus and instantly love it, keep it. If you pick up the 6 Plus, love the screen and everything but the size doesn't feel right, then return it for the 6. Phablets (even Apple's...) are a niche product and are thus not suitable for everybody. Personally, I bloody love it and I only wish Apple released it two years ago.

I was on the fence for a couple of days after I got the 6 Plus last week, but I've decided to keep it. In my opinion, the size thing is something you'll get used to. Like the now archaic predictive text thing with the old Nokia phones, Blackberry qwerty keyboards, etc. We all adapt.

But I do wear size L or XL gloves, so that probably helps, too. Either way, both great phones. Just get what you think will fit best and you'll adapt to it.

Your probably right. Anyone who truies to use a 6 Plus exactly how they did with a 4 or 5 will find it unwieldy. My play with a Note 3 tells me that one handed does work if the app is not high and right, and keyboard is reachable. Treat it like a part time phone and part time tablet as regards how you will hold it.

Be interesting to see these comments after 2 weeks use

Preordered the 6 plus and got it early morning of launch day so that was a pretty cool experience... I spent all weekend messing with it and admiring how awesome it was (got the red apple leather case with white/ silver 6 plus). Went back to classes on Monday after hearing about all the "bendgate" drama and realized I was terrified of putting my phone in my pocket. At that moment I knew I was going to have to exchange it. Well after doing so I am much happier with this phone and the color change up. The case/phone color combo is sweet too.

Okay, I bought 2 iPhone 6+ phones and got them on 9/25. One I bought for my mother, it is perfect for her. I set her phone up first and in the course of setting her phone up, I realized that the 6+ is FREAKING HUGE!

So before I opened the iPhone 6+ that was for me, I spent a few days using her 6+ and doing things on the phone that I normally would do and wondering if I can stand having the monster phone in my front pocket all the time. I was also having some difficulty texting 1-handed so I thought maybe I should look at the iPhone 6 to see if that works better for me. So, I then went to the apple store and saw the 6 sitting there and looked at it for only a quick minute and said, "wow, that is big too!" and I can easily text on it 1-handed so I kind of decided to return my 6+ and get a 6 but wasn't completely firm on that decision....so now I was thoroughly confused. I then read a bunch of posts on macrumors last night and decided more firmly that the 6+, while great, wasn't for me.

So, I decided to return the 6+ in the morning. But before I did, I spent another hour last night texting on the 6+ and, you know, I started to adapt to the monster keyboard and was able to better tap the other side of the keyboard 1-handed. But I still told myself I need the iPhone 6 because the 1-handed texting will still be easier. I needed one more moment with an iPhone 6 to make the final decision. So this morning, I went to best buy to see if I can hold the iPhone 6 without it being tethered down with a wire like it is in the Apple Store. I brought my iPhone 5 to compare and I put the iPhone 5 on top of the iPhone 6 and, wow, the iPhone 6 is not as big as I thought. In fact, to me, it would be barely an upgrade. Reminded me of when I went from an iPhone 4 to a 5 and felt like it only added an extra row of icons. Right then and there I realized that the freaking huge screen on the 6+ is freaking awesome. I mean it is just suhhhhweeeeet!!!

And I am certain that after a week of using the iPhone 6+, I will adapt even more to the 1-handed texting, but even if I don't, I am okay with it. I have already adapted to the phone in my front pocket using my mother's phone so that is good. I am even thinking that I can get rid of my iPad mini and Kindle and consolidate it all on to my 6+, which I wouldn't think of doing with the 6.

So, the decision is made, time to open up my brand spanking new freaking awesome screened iPhone 6+ Monster and hook that bad boy up!
