It really bugs me that Samsung was able to put a large 5.7" screen into a phone that is shorter than the iPhone 6 Plus -- yet Apple can't (or won't?) get a 5.5" screen into a shorter body. I so badly want the larger 5.5" screen of the iPhone 6 Plus. But the phone is just too darn tall for me.

Knocking a quarter of an inch off the height is not going to magically make the + feel like a smaller phone. Its not going to become magically pocketable.

You want a big phone, you get a big phone.

Does the Note require you to press the bottom button as often as the iPhone?

I found that to really be the limiting thing with the 6+. If you didn't have to access that Home button so often, you could hold the phone more by the middle and reach around the screen easier...but since your thumb basically always has to be within reach of the home button, it makes the rest of the screen hard to reach.

I can very much relate OP.

I've been using my 6 Plus for a week now and everyday so far I gone from absolutely loving the thing (the screen! The battery life! The landscape view! The app potential!) to resenting my choice and thinking the 6 would be better for me and back again to loving the damned thing. I have a serious love/hate relationship with it.

It would seem I love the plus when I'm sat around at home or at my desk in work; but when it comes to using it on the move I struggle to use it. What's worse when I am on the move and *not* using it I feel like I have to carry it as it's distracting in my pocket — I'm constantly worried/thinking about it.

And the truth is I still use it how I used every iPhone before it: in portrait mode, one handed. The landscape mode and keyboard have rarely been used and I resent each and every time I've tried to do something one handed and failed because it's too cumbersome.

I think I'm going to exchange for a 6 this week. It's what would suit me best but I can absolutely see the appeal of the Plus, I just can be doing with the compromise.

But I am absolutely going to miss the gorgeous screen and astounding battery life.

To those who have exchanged, I bought mine out right (I'm in the UK) is it as simple as walking in and asking to swap it and refund the difference? Or do I need to reserve one?

I know what you mean. The one handed function is starting to win me over. It's something I didn't think I would miss. So I'm starting to reconsider. As for landscape typing, it's a nice feature but I've yet to use it. Never did when I had my previous iPhones. Only use it on my iPad. I hate that apple gave me a choice. Lol.

0P checking in here today I swapped out my 6+ for six it is as simple as doing an exchange the hard part is finding the store with inventory I checked yesterday and sweet talked to couple of the people there and they remembered me today there definitely is some priority to exchanging your phone versus trying to buy the new phone

I can't say that I'm glad I did exchange but I do know I will be keeping the six for me and once again And lastly for me the size of the six is good but the size of the 6+ is too big ultimately I wish the six were a little bit bigger probably a 5.0 would be perfect.

I hope you all enjoy your phones

I totally agree that a 5" would be as perfect as could be. I have the 6+ and am right in the middle between the two models. Like many of you are saying the 6+ is wonderful to look at and use in many circumstances but is kind of a bear when on the move. I'm female and can stick it in a purse but then I may not hear or feel it. Also I'm more likely to lose my purse than my phone... I'm just used to carrying my phone in my back pocket in summer (yes back pocket!!) or jacket pocket during colder weather and then I pull it out when I'm about to sit and leave it out either in cup holder in car or else on table or desk etc. when I get somewhere (or else I keep it in pocket).

Speaking of the 6+ in cup holder in car: that works surprisingly well! I thought it wouldn't fit but it fit great and the grippiness of my clear case holds it up nicely as if purposely on display.

I haven't decided yet myself but I feel a little bit of an "ache" from gripping the big phone in my hands after a while (what a wuss) compared to smaller phones. I used the 6 today in the store with my 6+, going back and forth between the two and honestly, the 6 was too small and the 6+ too big. Ugh - hate being such an Apple fangirl!!

LOL. Well in my case my wife has the 6 and when ever she uses one handed I'm like.. S***! It is nice to have the larger screen, but the fact I'm still debating on it makes me wonder if I'm really happy with it. Ugh...decisions. Dam you apple for giving us choices!!

What carrier do you have?

I can't say that I'm glad I did exchange but I do know I will be keeping the six for me

Why do you say "I can't say I'm glad I did exchange"?

Just curious what your additional impressions are of the 6 after having used the plus for so long?

Knocking a quarter of an inch off the height is not going to magically make the + feel like a smaller phone. Its not going to become magically pocketable.
But it's not just a quarter of an inch. A quarter of an inch takes it down to the size of Samsung's 5.7" screen phone, the Note 3. A phone with a 5.5" screen should be even shorter than the Note. And if the 5.5" iPhone Plus was shorter than the Note, it would have been magically pocketable for me.

I can't say I'm glad because I will be in turmoil for two more years, where as I was fine being a sheep before ;) (I kid....I think) the 6 is a nice size it's fine it's bigger than the small 5s. I'd love to be in a 5.0 inch screen even something 5.5 like the lg g3 with awesome dimensions so that lets you know me personally I would like a bigger phone. Too bad apple is not going to call me and say hey send me an impression of your hand we are going to work with YOU infoe and build you the phone you want and let everyone else buy around it.

so that's just my thought process. I'm just glad I've pretty much decided to stay with the 6 I already know the 6+ after the hand cramps and just not feeling comfortable being able to take it out of my pocket without a conscious thought while I am out and about does not work for me.

I could have given it more of a chance and learned to like it and even had peace of mind with applecare but If returning it sends a small message even if it doesnt it's fine by me.

Essentially I'm glad because my dilemna is over between phones. Not glad that the 5.5 feels too big for everyday use for me

Great thread. Thanks to the discussion here in addition to handling both sizes in store, I made the decision to go for the 6, when I had initially thought for sure I'd get the 6+. We will see for sure when I get it next month whether I am longing for a larger form factor, but from all indications I doubt that will be the case.

I'm going to buy a big truck. If I don't like it I'll demand myoney back and buy a smaller car.

That took a lot longer than I thought it would. Kudos to everyone who kept the commentary positive and constructive up to this point...7 pages and almost two full days without a smarta$$ might be a record around here!

I was almost on the same boat as the OP. I always wanted a 6+ and have had it since launch day. Recently when I saw the 6 of my colleague, I started thinking about exchanging 6+ for the 6 due to the form factor. I am also 6'1" and 185lbs, used to be a pro athlete.

My colleague was nice enough to lend me her phone for a couple hours to use and compare side by side, something that I was not able to do in Apple store as they have the two phones on two different tables.

Eventually, I decided to keep my 6+ due to its screen real estate and better camera, which are important to me. The double tap gesture to bring down the top screen turns out to be very useful, once you get used to it. I am willing to learn to adapt to the bigger size, but it's a nice compromise.

I was sure that I would get 6 plus when it is out since I hate iphone 5 small screen. Now I have iphone 6 plus for a week. it is great but sometime I can't do things with one hand. it is like, "you'd miss it when you lose it"

I and most people here are used to small screen and "one hand" feature that apple introduced and has us get used to it for last 7 years. it would take sometime to get away from this "one hand" habit. Plus, apple and developers would need more time to come out with new features to make big size more comfortable and more beneficial.

so 14-days trial on your iphone 6 plus might not enough to get used to the new plus size.

I loved the Plus--really impressive device. But after a week of using it, I used the Plus more like a Tablet than phone. I wouldn't pull Plus out as readily as normally would.

After exchanging, I'm back to normal usage. Plus just didn't retain same phone footprint that works on the go for me.

For me, I don't watch anything on my iPhone whether Plus or not. I either watch on iPad or stream to TV. But the screen was awesome. And battery was awesome but faster charging helps in that regard on the 6 with smaller battery.

I exchanged my 6 Plus for the 6 today and so far I'm really happy. Gave it a week and I have fairly big hands but there was something about the ergonomics of the 6 Plus. Also, I wear glasses and I felt like the phone was constantly hitting the frame of my glasses when up against my ear. The ear hole seems so small on the huge phone that at times I had an issue aligning it to be able to hear the person on the other end properly.

The other thing is, I know apps are not optimized but I feel like Apple's own are not either. I did not think they were taking advantage of all the space available, and there was a lot of wasted space my finger had to hover over. Or, fonts and other items were much larger - which doesn't benefit me as my eyesight is good for now. I'm sure this will improve over time.

I forget where I read it (probably this forum), but if they had called the 6 Plus an iPad Nano I think that would be perfect. A small tablet with calling features. The screen really was beautiful, camera was excellent, and battery life amazing. It's a very good device. But for me the smaller size works better.

Great thread! Me and the wife decided that the 6 Plus was just too big for our lifestyle. I checked online and it appeared that one of the apple stores had the 6 we wanted. I called 2x to confirm that's it was in stock and it was. As I walk into the store I find my uncle trying to upgrade his 5 and he tells me that they are saying that the is none in stock but that he had spoken to the manager and that the manager is seeing what he can do to find him one. I approached an Apple employee and told her that I wanted to exchange my plus for the smaller 6. She replies and says that they don't have any. I told her that online it says that they do and that I had called to confirm. She says I'm sorry some times the site mixes up inventory. Then I see a couple costumers walking out with new iPhones and I asked her she says those are pick up at store orders. I told her that thats what I was planning to do and she called the employee that was running the floor. He tells me that it's not possible and that I would not be able to get one. I asked for the manager and as the manager approaches, my uncle is already receiving his iphone 6. The manager tells me that he is sorry that they didn't have any in stock. I asked him why he told my uncle the same thing, and now all of a sudden there is one for him. He tried telling me that yes but that it was the last one. I once again, brought up the fact that online it said that they have in stock. Again he said that it was wrong. Frustrated I told him that I wanted to still return both of my iPhone 6 plus's. He went on to tell me that if I did that, it could take up to 3 days for my eligibility to upgrade and to be reseted by AT&T. I told him that I didn't care. He called another employee to assist me on making the returns. Then after the manager left the employee told me that I was doing it the correct way and to start ordering my 6 on their mac. Within 3 min both of my iPhone 6 were being processed to be picked up right at that same store! Waited about 15 min and got both of my iPhone 6!! Now my question is why would the store give me such a hard time??? Wth was the point in all of that??
Sorry for the long read guys....

Short answer because i had same thing happen to me yesterday and today in the morning while I still walked out with my 6 in the afternoon. They are keeping a small stash for sure for doa/defective phones but are trying their best to not dip into this pool of inventory for everyone that walks in during the day saying they want/need the phone for x reason.

Lol not so short answer

Had a different / but similar strange experience on launch day with my iPhone 6 Plus too...

When I went to get my iPhone 6 Plus in the evening (6 PM or so) on launch day the first employee I came across as I was trying to get in line asked if I came for the "Plus" and I said yes. He told me it's too late and that they do not have any at all, only the regular iPhone 6 Plus, even after I asked about the specific carrier and said I'd take any color and size. He said if I want the bigger one it's pointless to line up since it's so late in the day and I should try another day.

I decided to line up anyway, and when the Apple employee doing the registration asked what I wanted she said they do not have any iPhone 6 Plus in stock at all and that I should try another day / time. I asked her to please double check on her device (I think it was an iPad) again, and said I would take any color / any size. She rolled her eyes but checked for me and said that OK, they do in fact have it for my carrier and in the exact color I preferred (silver). What?

I think they may just be tired and worn out from all the iPhone 6 craziness or their stocking system really is messed up.. I don't know.

Wth was the point in all of that??

In a nutshell, the person running the red zone doesn't always know everything. (It's not always a manager running the red zone)

The other day I went to an Apple store and red zone leader told me, none in stock, checked Apple Online for that store, they did, ordered and got it right there. Silly....

Now still debating about + or not.

My iPhone 6 Plus is going back. Great phone hardware wise (screen, camera and battery life) but for me it is just too big a device to use, especially with a case on it. I was only a year into a 2 year contract with AT&T with my iPhone 5s, so I popped out the SIM card in my 6 Plus and put in it in 5s and will take the 6 Plus back to Apple tomorrow. I was considering going to the 6 (4.7") but just might stick with the 5s for another year until the 2015 models come out.

Also two hand usage didn't bother me on the Plus, but the more difficult one hand picture taking really bothered me, along with making any fitness features moot save the pedometer (except when actually working out).

There is a reason Apple sells 3 sizes.

Choose the size that fits you best, and call it a day.

Doesn't have to be a drama filled deliberation.

I didn't get the 6+ because it's too big for my lifestyle. End of story.

Do the same, and be happy.
