I'm not sure how I feel about this ATM.

None the less I am giving my nano to a girl I like since her iPod was stolen.

*sticks with original 1g shuffle for now*

iPod touch looks brilliant. But I'm afraid I won't be retiring my 3rd gen 30 gig iPod to spend $400 on a replacement with half the storage. No matter how neat or desirable the interface.

Maybe I AM the only one here not on medication...

I saw chairs flying out of Steve Ballmer's office window.
Can you just imagine what Microsoft ware doing now.
Oh yeah, that's right. They're gonna release a new, flagship iPod and only put 8 gigs in it. For three hundred bucks, which is only a hundred bucks more than a sodding 8 gig Nano...

Are you on medication?
I know it's 8 and 16GB, but I think that's got to be a post that will go down in MacRumors.com history for me.

Think I'll sig it. :)

Wait, is the biggest iPod now only 16GB? I'm confused.

No, the "biggest" iPod is the new HDD-based 6th Generation "iPod Classic" at 160 GB. It's an evolutionary step over the current 5th generation iPod.

However, the "biggest" iPod is no longer the most feature-rich iPod. That title now belongs to the all-new "iPod Touch" which appears to be basically the iPhone without the phone.

I bet Ambrosia is happy that a lot of mac users will be buying their iToner since Apple made a dumb ringtone choice.

Euch!

Apple and Starbucks in bed together.

Yikes!

Apple and Nintendo? The stuff of dreams...

Apple and Nike? Yeah, I guess...

Apple and Starbucks? Steve, a step too far. Why not go the whole hog and stick the Golden Arches on the new Apple Mac-iPod and have done with it.

Hello all,

I have two questions... I have an older iPod photo, as such I have been interested in a video iPod for awhile. To date, with all my music/pictures, I have used ~6 GB only. Yet I am, however, unfamiliar with the space required for videos, movies, etc.. I was wondering how many videos/movies one could expect to get into a 16 GB flash drive that is now being offered via the iPod Touch? Is 16 GB of flash storage considered "a lot", or is it more on the level of only a few full-length feature films?

Also, I am a long-time Newton user who has been (secretly) hoping for some kind of update for the technology through Apple. Since the iPod Touch has Safari and internet capabilities, can I assume that I can also check my email on the system?

Thanks all!!!

16gb is not really alot but it is fine as long as you don't expect to have your whole movie collection on it. Depending on the quality that you rip your movie at (using something like Handbrake) it could be anywhere from 500mb to 2gb. These are just general numbers of course. I'm not sure how big the movies are that are sold via iTunes.

So the iPhone is more expensive, offers half the storage and requires you to take out a costly 2 year contract?

Apple have to come out with a rev. 2 iPhone that betters the ipod touch soon or you can look forward to iPhone sales bombing. They need to at least increase the flash storage in the iPhone to equal the iPod Touch.

There really has to be wailing and rending of garments at Microsoft right now.

They haven't even released the Nano version of the Zune yet, and it is already obsolete.

I'm going to a Zune fansite to troll!!!! ;)

I predict this will be one of the most coveted new products in the history of products for sale - i.e. demand will exceed supply for more months than Apple or anyone else could have ever planned for. If you don't order it today, you may not get one in time for Christmas.

This is one of the most KILLER APPLICATIONS ever to come across a retail counter. ;)

It ranks up there with the WHEEL.

While 16GB is not much, the fact it can stream video off the web makes the storage thing not so important. At this point in NAND development, 16GB is the most they could do and I'm sure they will go to 32, 64, 128 & 256GB ASAP.

You are so very right. Lets face it Apple is HEAVEN and Steve is GOD. I'm jumping in with a replacement for my 4 year old Shuffle with an i-pod Touch and my PC with a 2.8 Extreme i-Mac. I am embracing the hallowed fruit!:apple:

now we conclude this event

. Nano now has 320x240 screen to play video
. iPod now renamed to classic, with up to 160GB HDD

. new PDA from apple, called iPod Touch, which is iPhone-phone. up to 16G, which costs $399.

Thats it, thanks for your attention.:)
