But, Steve says they want to get even MORE aggressive. What does this mean? iPhone will be even MORE affordable, so they’re dropping the price of the 8GB model to $399. Two hundred dollar price drop

geez.

haha, with that 2-years contract, and look at this new PDA, iPhone is dead, no matter how much they drop the price

You're right, and I stand corrected. I'm just kinda bummed about the ringtone thing. :D

I'll bet apple had no choice. You think the companies selling JUST a ringtone are only sending $.50 to the record company and pocketing the rest?

Ringtones are a huge source of income for record companies, there's no way they'd let apple give away ringtone use for free. The fact that only some songs are available is evidence of this, ringtones don't fall under the itunes contract, and apple had to negotiate a new deal for them.

Does anyone sell ringtones for $.99? Or both ringtone and the song for $1.98?

That is crap. 200 dollar price drop. Guess thats what you pay for being on the bleeding edge of technology, but its a phone.

Oh well...

Wow...just wow....$200 price drop two months after release, that is ridiculous. Has any other consumer electronic device dropped that quickly? That is a huge percent drop.

Endgadget coverage gets 10/10 for pics and most thorough reporting.

Gizmodo gets 10/10 for their Laurel & Hardy routine.

Top event. A real shame not to get any news on Euro-releases for the iPhone. A real shame.

Nothing on :apple:TV either.

ok this pisses me off. i guess I should have waited to get the iphone now. oh well I still am happy I bought it. but 200 dollars is alot of money.

Don't worry. There will likely be a class action lawsuit about this also. :D

Glad they dropped the price, though. It's more in line with reality.

Hmmmm so does that mean no more 4gb iPhones anymore? What price will those be...surely not $499.......

There are a lot of people who don't want to carry around an iPod Touch and a cell phone, so I think the iPhone will still do ok.

More expensive for less storage, requires an expensive two year contract and locks you to AT&T. You think people are willing to go through all that rather than carry a different phone with them (one that has 3G, MMS and a better camera for example)?

Mark my words, iPhone sales will BOMB now unless Apple do something like lower the price, increase the storage or release firmware which gives more functionality to the iPhone.

There are better mobile phones than the iphone, with more functionality and better features (like better camera, video, MMS, 3G). The iPhones killer feature is it's ipod abilities. Now it's redeeming feature is available in a cheaper product with more storage.

In Europe the iPhone may well be stillborn. We can get better phones with faster internet, MMS and vastly superior cameras for FREE on our contracts (my current phone is 3G and has a 3.2Mp camera and can videochat). Without it's killer ipod feature the iphone is nothing. I can just get an iPod Touch instead.

Well, there'll be other ways to get tones on there. ;)

And the iPhone price drop doesn't bother me, Apple's getting agressive. :D

so is there really a software unlock for the iphone lol

im tired of waiting for it to come out in canada

As an early-adopter, I could really care less about the price drop. Sure, I'd like the $200, but I wasn't going to sit around waiting for a price drop to buy the phone. I'm 100% satisfied with my purchase, and now more people are going to have them. My extra productivity alone from not having to demo the iPhone constantly is going to be worth the $200 in a matter of weeks! (ok - maybe not weeks...)

Regardless, this is a good thing. It expands the market. More iPhones sold is a good thing, especially for me, as a shareholder. :D
