Apple is NOT on my good side today.

Seriously, why cause this much ruckus over the Beatles coming to iTunes?

This announcement is so *L*A*M*E* that I actually logged on just to complain! Haven't posted to macrumors in months... had to figure out what my password was!

Too bad for us you remembered the password. :p

Just went to iTunes played a Beatles track... When does the 90 seconds preview begin because those puppies are still the disgustingly short 30 seconds?

do not forget that most of John and Paul's catchy ballads are only 2 minutes long, STEVE won't allow you to have an almost complete preview
:D

I'm really disappointed in the Apple hype machine this time. Hype wi-fi syncing, hype a subscription based streaming service. Don't hype the Beatles coming to iTunes by saying it'll be a day we'll never forget, for crying out loud!

It seems to me that all Apple did was put up one graphic (granted, the copy was a little hyped), and the tech blogs did all the rest.

This happens EVERY time Apple announces something, the blogs get all worked up, everyone suddenly believes Apple is about to announce that they're giving away free Mac Pros or something, then they make their announcement and everyone starts complaining because they really really wanted that free Mac Pro. There's always that one guy who says "Forget it Apple, you just lost a $10,000 sale because of this, I'm switching to Dell!"

Learn to temper your expectations and you will have much less stress in your life ;)

What news?

I like the Beatles but this was stupid. It's a pet project of Jobs. Honestly, if I were him I would be somewhat downplaying personal agenda when there's already enough concern surrounding how intricately Apple's success is tied to him ("key man" syndrome). True or not, that's the perception and for the masses, perception is reality.

Because Steve just got his "print free money" pass. Droves of people will buy this and then realize that they could have just purchased the physical media in the first place.

All the negative votes. Even if you don't think this is that big a deal, front page news, the day that you'll never forget or any of that, anyone who likes music, who has liked bands from Nirvana to Aerosmith to The Stone Roses, etc., this is the band that changed the face of music and made pushing the boundaries cool.

And while I'm pretty young and The Beatles is not my generation, I think all the comments from the children here just speak to the state of our culture today.

Hats off Steve. Glad to see the box set and all the iTunes LPs, though it is unfortunate that Apple Records made this such a long haul.

All I'm saying is that this is not a big deal. Anyone who appreciates music will not be buying these lossy tracks. They will get one of the numerous greatest hits album or the mono or stereo box sets and rip them as lossless. That is what I have done.

Maybe I'm an audio snob, but I'm only putting quality music (uncompressed or lossless) through my system. I have tried bit AIFF and ALAC and could not hear the difference. MP3 and AAC versus ALAC proved a difference, IMO.

Would have been a cool announcement if it hadn't been so overhyped.
Consider today forgotten, Apple.

This is about as an exciting as it would be if Apple announced a model of iPhone with a physical keyboard.

meh

releasing one album do anything to do with entire iTunes lovers???

who cares, apple fail, waste of time.

IT IS JUST ANOTHER DAY!

Ok, seriously... no one is gonna just come out right out and say it?

OK... I will.

Dammit, Apple...

I BELIEVE IN YESTERDAY.

I'm not closed minded....The Beatles set the stage (so to speak) for every other band out there. Hell, John Lennon invented distortion!!!

No. Improperly shielded wires invented distortion. Turning up the volume too loud also invented distortion.

This announcement is Jobs's ego at its worst. Jobs himself has been pushing for this for years and it has become larger than life it seems. And now, it appears he has finally won. This may be a big victory for him, but not many regular people care. This task of his was all about ego, not money. Does anyone think Apple is going to make much money off this at all? Likely not. But, Jobs gets to pat himself on the back. The whole audacity of the announcement is sickening. A day we will never forget? Really?
