This would have been supercool about ten years ago... but since it's been unavailable for so long on iTunes... I went ahead and got pirated copies years ago of the songs of theirs that I do like... which isn't many.
Whoever held that up for so long... shouldn't expect accolades or thanks at this point...
I have no interest in the announcement because I already have the Beatles catalog ripped to MP3s, but it's a good announcement nonetheless. And I don't get all of the Beatles hate either. Even if you don't like their music, you have to acknowledge the impact they had on music and culture.
Maybe the hate comes from the fact that it is not the beatles... note the "s", since 50% of the band has taken the long and winding road and the other half, well, one's a drummer whose singing talents rode on the coat tails of others who could sing.
And the only remaining actual talent has gone "Daft!" as it would be described in the Old Country! Must be over 64!
Yesterday googling, I kinda assumed the Beatles until I read that "just another day" was what Lennon called McCartney after they broke up during the feud.
Honestly -- this is boring. However, Apple really didn't OVERHYPE it. We did. The media did. Apple put a little graphic on their website the day before it released. Other companies only wish that a such a graphic could garner this much attention, speculation and advertisement.
But where is the Beatles iPod, iPhone or iPad? That's the announcement I expected too. If U2 got not one, but two special iPods, certainly there should be some special kit for the Beatles.
I wish this endevour the best (gosh it's been wondered since the beginning of the store) and I hope many new fans are created because it. The Beatles are timeless and deserve a way to be quickly accessed from here out -- however -- those who have loved them since forever have had their LPs, 8-tracks (?) Cassettes and CDs for years and have bought their stuff multiple times. Many millions of us bought their Box Collections on 9-9-9 just last year.
Edit: only a Fool on the Hill would spend $150 on this as the actual-physical-CDs-box-set is $130 on amazon.com. However, there are fools on hills and a sucker born every minute.

What I find funny about people saying that is that it is being said on a site full of people who are willing to dish out hundreds of dollars every year for a few more gigs of space on an iPod.
Are you kidding me? With the crap that is played on the radio today? The Beatles were not just a boy band! Their music is amazing and it's not just three chords or some autotune crap. How much of their music have you actually listened to? Grab Abbey Road and some headphones and give it a listen please!
Done that and still not a Beatles fan. Agreed, they weren't just a boy band, but they were definitely not worth all the hype.
And REALLY APPLE?! I think the whole "who-ha" is due to Steve being a huge Beatles fan. It's no big announcement and it's very disappointing. Not a good way to handle a non-event. Stop with the PR circus and start innovating again!
i agree. seriously the Beatles are sooo "yesterday" .... (no offense to Beatles fans). But seriously this isn't breaking news or something worthy of a whole splash page on apple.com
Also, how is it Apple's fault for anything? How is Apple "lame lately"? They just put up that message on their front page yesterday and it's been all you idiots hyping the hell out of it.
Apple just put a web page up on their web site. They appear to be running TV commercials.
Despite what many here think, being the first company to be able to offer online sales for the best selling musical act ever, is a big deal. Just because Macrumors and AI engaged in 24 hours of absurd speculation does not mean Apple has done anything wrong.
The most interesting thing to happen today was to learn how utterly useless the +/- system is here on Macrumors.
They posted a box on their web page 24 hours in advance. They actually made it pretty clear it was not a big deal. Anyone who over-invested in the "hype" is the one with the problem.
Beatles: excellent Beatles detractors on this thread: un-necessarily annoyed people Beatles on iTunes: a bit of an anti-climax really, but it's a good photo of them on the Apple front page
Mostly like it's that they got their hopes up that Apple was going to actually give them a Beatle. After perfecting cloning technology, you could buy a box with a real Beatle in it. Sadly, they're blind boxed and you wouldn't get to choose. And Yoko Ono is in 20% of the boxes.
