OK, so the announcement was somewhat overstated.

But that doesn't mean it's worthy of everyone ******** on it! The Beatles were practically the one major band (AC/DC aside :p) that were holding off on digital distribution of their music. Now it's on iTunes, the biggest music store in the world, and it's DRM free. That's a pretty big deal. (also, iTunes LPs, didn't see that one coming)

The fact that some people have gotten their panties in a bunch because it's not a cloud-based iTunes service or whatever else they'd dreamt up isn't a reason to just poo-poo the announcement.

Unless I'm mistaken, iTunes is now the only place in the world to get the complete Beatles back catalogue digitally. That's a bit of a coup.

All I have to say is this sucks...why get our hopes up...they should have just stealth released it.....its not a big deal..

Apple you are slipping.....

Who cares?

Like everyone was holding on listening to Beatles, because of it was not available @ iTunes. It is a day to remember for Steve, but it is so naive to project it in such a way to the rest of us. Steve, get over it!!!

Incredibly lame. So much buildup, all for nothing. Out of all the times Apple has promised something "big" and failed to wow me, this is the biggest disappointment, bar none. Anyone who is a huge Beatles fan already has their catalog, and most other people won't care enough for this to be significant. To call this a day I'll "never forget" is unbelievably arrogant on Apple's part.

It seems to me that all Apple did was put up one graphic (granted, the copy was a little hyped), and the tech blogs did all the rest.

This happens EVERY time Apple announces something, the blogs get all worked up, everyone suddenly believes Apple is about to announce that they're giving away free Mac Pros or something, then they make their announcement and everyone starts complaining because they really really wanted that free Mac Pro. There's always that one guy who says "Forget it Apple, you just lost a $10,000 sale because of this, I'm switching to Dell!"

Learn to temper your expectations and you will have much less stress in your life ;)

Remember when someone said, in jest, that the iPad would have a solar panel and many outlets (CNN) picked it up as utter gospel?
Really people, not every announcement has to be tailored to your need for whatever bit of techno-fetish you feel you need in your life. If Apple had sent out announcements and reserved the Yerba Buena Center and dropped leaflets from the space shuttle then I would say it was overhyped. The fact that in 16 hours people read into one web page all their worldly hopes and dreams is hardly Apple's fault.

couldnt help it

just registered to macrumors just to post this...

i am dissapointed by this apple announcement

i was hoping they offered a all-you-can-listen beetles plan for less than 50$/mo

that way i could listen to Let It Be a million times.

cmon apple...can believe this....... i will never forget this day (is it fools day today?)

Love the picture! now my desktop picture \o/.

I can't wait to buy the box set, when I can afford it lol. :apple:

yeah that's cool, The Beatles are now on iTunes. Big lead up for nothing. I've had all of the beatles albums on miTunes for years as I am sure tons of others have. Nothing worth purchasing a second time!

Lame announcement

I was hoping for iOS 4.3, where Alyson Hannigan (nekkid) is the wallpaper by default. :(

150usd for the Box set - of 30year old music? In fact what's does "Box Set" mean when applied to digital media? WTF?

FWIW I own almost 400 CDs, including a couple of Beatles albums - No way I would spend that kind of money on iTunes.

The maya calendar is nothing

I never forget this date....November 16th 2010.

Steve has change our lives.

She (Yoko) love you ..yeah yeah yeah...more money, more money

Please, send donation 1.29$ for each song.

Agree

Damn. What a bunch of whiney babies. No one saw this coming yesterday morning. If it was built-up, it was in your own head. Keep your expectations in check. Fairplay to Apple for finally landing this after 7+ years. I wish I had their lawyers.

Yes I had hoped for some form of streaming etc but this is still big news - the biggest band in the world finally available of iTunes - Apple deserve some credit for persuading EMI etc to agree to this.

Just watch the Washington show to see how this band changed the world of music - amazing.

Doing my best to add to the tradition:

In that picture it's interesting that only Ringo has his hands out of his pockets.
The others are all dead.

Miss Hiiiiiimmmmm ;)

Your ignorance is unbelievable. Sir Paul McCartney is still alive and well.

This is an anti climax of an announcement yet there is no denying that The Beatles changed the world of music. A truly great British export that has never been or will be rivaled. Im enjoying the free content viewing in light of the poor announcement though.

What???? No PowerBook G5??? Hmm... maybe next Tuesday then! I know it'll come! I just need to hold on a little while longer...:p

I think this is a clear example of how rumors can ruin the tone of an announcement. Everyone puts their own spin on things and the hype grows until the bubble bursts.

Live steaming would have been cool, but if that were the case I doubt Jobs would go out without a keynote about it, telling us all how it's the best and how it'll change everything. It's not his style to release something very new in concept or design without fanfare and a proper introduction.

For this Beatles announcement I think it was fitting of a teaser on their page. However their wording was more confusing than teasing. But Apple loves to keep you guessing. Maybe the catchy line writer was out sick for the day.

Either way for Apple and the record companies and fans of their music this is welcome news. I own the Stereo set and yes I'm a fan, so I enjoy watching the TV ads, the Highlight video and the 1964 concert. If you're not a fan then this isn't for you. Same with any other content on iTunes. I didn't hear much backlash about this when Disney put all of their albums on the iTunes store years ago. That was a big deal, sure there wasn't a teaser but it made the news.

I think it just comes down to people expecting too much of tiny things sometimes. Forgetting to take things with a grain of salt and restrain yourself a bit. Yes, it's exciting to speculate and wonder what's next, but it's silly to get upset when Apple doesn't read your mind and pull a rabbit out of the hat. If that was the case we all would have an iPhone the size of an iMac and a G5 PowerBook. :p

So take this for what it is, a major addition to the iTunes catalog. Like them or hate them they've been missing from the iTunes store since launch and now the surviving members and their family are now happier - including Jobs for finally making it happen. A quote from George's son pointed out that they were losing money everyday from not having the titles available online for download. So I think this is pretty cool, but then again I'd still love a cool iTunes streaming service. ;)
