I love the Beatles! So I already have their music.

plain and simple:
If they announce something like "a day you'll never forget" they need to prepare for huge expectations, who wouldn't, only people who don't understand english!

if they only want to introduce the beatles to the iTunesStore, simply go and and offer them quietly and put up an ad on the webpage... That's it.

This is nobody's fault but Apple's! Ridiculous to claim that we all will never forget this day... yeah, maybe because it was the lamest overhyped (by them) announcement in the companies history!

The Beattles

While the Beatles may be an amazing band i think this is just down right ridiculous. With the fact they changes their home page i was expecting possibly ios 4.2 and yes i know about the wifi issue but the second gm build has already been released. I was also kinda hoping for the Verizon iPhone announcement i mean it would have made sense for either of those but the Beatles come on apple what a major letdown on this one i could even get the Beatles stuff before ten anyways from itunes so there was no hype anyways. So does this mean i can expect a Beatles exclusive ipod to launch soon just like the u2 video ipod when it launched years back. Way to fail apple.

Actually there is the limited edition of the box set which comes on a usb apple which includes ALL the discography remastered in flac 24 bit and in mp3 320 kbps, flac 24 is a lot better than itunes crap at that price!

Ah yes, forgot about that... But instant, digital downloads, are now exclusive to iTunes, right?

Unless I'm mistaken, iTunes is now the only place in the world to get the complete Beatles back catalogue digitally.

You are mistaken. You can go into best buy and get the Beatles back catalogue digitally. It's called a CD. Information stored on it is digital. Put it in your computer and let iTunes transfer the data into your iTunes library (which is trivially simple, there's a button right in the menu) and you'll have the Beatles on your iDevices as well. And at much higher quality than a download I might add.

Vinyl = Analog
CD = Digital

The Beatles have been distributing their music digitally for a long time now.

Smashing! I won't be buying them (already ripped), but good to see them making the rounds once again.

All I'm saying is that this is not a big deal. Anyone who appreciates music will not be buying these lossy tracks. They will get one of the numerous greatest hits album or the mono or stereo box sets and rip them as lossless. That is what I have done.

Maybe I'm an audio snob, but I'm only putting quality music (uncompressed or lossless) through my system. I have tried bit AIFF and ALAC and could not hear the difference. MP3 and AAC versus ALAC proved a difference, IMO.

I'm not saying that it is a huge deal. However, we do know that this has been a thorn in the side of Apple iTunes collection for a long time, and a personal mission for Steve. And considering iTunes is the largest music store in the world, it is somewhat sad that they didn't offer this and so for the store it is a big deal. Is it front page and hype worthy, probably not. Do real audiophiles prefer lossless, etc. Of course. But for the average iPod owner, etc., who buys music from iTS, this is what they would look for. Do I really ever listen to The Beatles. Not really. But I probably will buy Sgt. Peppers and The White album as I don't think I actually have them. My hearing is blown from too many 80s and 90s rock concerts. So AAC vs. ALAC doesn't mean much to me, I lose it anyway.

My point is this thread and the rumor threads yesterday were so rampant with people demanding this and that from Apple like always. If it's not this, then blah blah blah. Just points out to the childish self entitled ignorant generation we have today. And it really makes me sick. More than anything it is kind of sad and pathetic at the overall level of complete stupidity that is rampant in a supposedly internet informed collective group. But you see that everyday on MR. Today it is just heightened.

K, it's 10:30. Where's the announcement from the TECH company known as apple? Is it behind the collection of already purchased cds they're hiding behind?

and before flaming commences, yes I am a huge Beatles fan and have alot of their music.

This only isn't a big announcement to people that have no idea or appreciation for just how important the Beatles were and still are to music. Even if you hate them, there is hardly anything that you do like that hasn't been directly, or implicitly, affected by them. The lack of Beatles on iTunes is a gigantic gaping hole for those searching for "similar music" etc. to other artists, genius recommendations, and in hundreds of "classics" and decades collections on the site. Apple isn't making that big a deal of it. But they are the freaking Beatles, and this has been too long coming.

What's wrong with The Beatles being on iTunes? I think it's a huge step forward, as it shows that now there are no disadvantages of iTunes over CDs. If you can get everything on iTunes that you can get on CDs, than why bother with CDs? Of course there will always be exceptions, but The Beatles was a big one missing from the iTunes store. Even if you don't like them, this is good for everyone.

There was nothing special about their music. It was simple. No soul and heart into it. It was boring. No emotion. Very simplistic. Not worthy of all the attention. They were just four hot guys who had wat was considered swag for their day. Anybody could have sang the way they did. There are plenty of better bands that have performed since then.

I love the Beatles vibe. Gretsch Duo Jet / Rickenbacker guitars through Vox amps. They also were the first band to record music with electric guitar feedback ie "I Feel Fine". They were certainly not boring ......

I hope no one buys much so Steve can tell Paul "I told you so" for waiting so long.

I love this from the press release on apple.com

“I am particularly glad to no longer be asked when the Beatles are coming to iTunes,” said Ringo Starr. “At last, if you want it—you can get it now—The Beatles from Liverpool to now! Peace and Love, Ringo.”

In other REAL NOTEWORTHY NEWS: "Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood" is now at a gamestop near you! Picking mine up in one hour and playing in two.

Oh stop your pissing and moaning. The Beatles are huge. They were huge here in the US. There was a hole in the iTunes catalog that has now been filled. Deal with it.

Boy, you guys are fickle. This wasn't even on the radar yesterday morning, Apple didn't even make that big of deal about it. Give them props for finally landing this one. If you're disappointed, you only have yourself to blame. It's not like everyone last night had predicted that this was where it was headed.

I'm not closed minded....The Beatles set the stage (so to speak) for every other band out there. Hell, John Lennon invented distortion!!!

I'm finding it hard to respond to your comment. First I'll just say no, Lennon did not invent distortion by any means. The ignorance of music history you are showing is disturbing. I'll just thow out some names and let you do the research.

Grady Martin
The ventures
Dave Davies

McCartney did use a big muff Fuzzbox on George harrisons "think for yourself" and many other tracks on rubber soul & revolver. But to call Lennon the inventor of distortion is outright laughable! :p:rolleyes::D
