It seems to me that all Apple did was put up one graphic (granted, the copy was a little hyped), and the tech blogs did all the rest.

Apple put up one graphic with the tagline of "Tomorrow is just another day. . .you'll never forget." Hyped is right!

I'm not a PR person, but I know it's not smart to put that kind of statement up if you're a hardware (computer and phone) company unless you're going to announce something that you believe will be a game-changing new device or a new service that will fundamentally change the way the devices you make work and how people will use them.

This was a content announcement only. . .which is a shame for a primarily hardware-driven company. I'm sure there will be "Beatles" themed iPods now a la U2 style right around the corner. They will sell pretty well, I'm sure. However, this announcement is so disappointing for those of us who are waiting for Apple to make some real "game changing" announcements where iTunes is concerned (wi-fi syncing of iPods/iPhones/iPads, streaming subscription service, etc.)

I find their music and lyrics to be rather pedestrian. I find the music of the Rolling Stones and the Jimi Hendrix Experience to be far superior. But I've talked to a lot of people who were around during that era, and I can certainly understand how the Beatles changed the way pop albums were written, produced, and recorded. Unfortunately, those innovations don't translate to interesting music for me. But to each his own.

weren't the Stones a copy of the Beatles like everyone copied Nirvana in the 1990's?

The announcement isn't about the people who already own the beatles albums. The current and next two generations only know to buy music from iTunes, this is for them and the future owners of music. Every teenager and younger should be the ones who are excited.

That said, why is MR so full of negativity these days? If you're just going to complain go somewhere else.

Your ignorance is unbelievable. Sir Paul McCartney is still alive and well.

This is an anti climax of an announcement yet there is no denying that The Beatles changed the world of music. A truly great British export that has never been or will be rivaled. Im enjoying the free content viewing in light of the poor announcement though.

No no no... He's dead because he has no shoes!

I swear, I've never understood why people liked the Beatles so much. They weren't especially good instrumentalists, they weren't good volcalists, they didn't harmonize well, and their tunes weren't especially catchy, and their lyrics weren't especially interesting or deep. Why the hell were they so popular?e.

Oh God. This is wrong on so many levels. Where to begin?

Tell, me. On which songs to they not harmonise well? The three-part harmonies on She Loves You? The reverse call and response on Help? The dramatic minors in relation to majors on If I Fell?

Which style of Lennon's vocals don't you rate? The rasping hoarseness on Twist and Shout? Or the softness of his voice on Julia?

Which bass lines do you think have more power than Rain and Paperback Writer? Were the riffs on I Feel Fine and Daytripper not up to your standards?

Were the lyrics on Strawberry Fields Forever, Within You and Without You, Tomorrow Never Knows and Eleanor Rigby a bit too facile for you?

Did composing the most recorded tune in human history (Yesterday) not impress you just a tiny bit?

Does a band being collectively included in Time magazine's compilation of the 20th century's 100 most influential people not give you the smallest hint that you are possibly the wrongest person from the wrong side of town in Wrongsville?

Look, ask your Mom and Dad to give you a few more bucks pocket money this week so you can download a few of the 256 Beatles songs. Think of it as an investment in your musical education.

Awesome for Beatles fans, lame for the other 95% of us.

This is not even big news for Beatles fans. Please find me a Beatles fan that doesn't already own the CDs. I'm a huge Beatles fan and I have, of course, already ripped my CDs in lossless.

But if I didn't have the CDs and I really wanted to buy Beatles songs as audio files, Amazon has sold a box with everything in 24-bit 44.1KHz lossless Flac for ages. Buying AAC on iTunes? No thanks.

It's great that new and old fans can now buy individual Beatles songs on iTunes. But it certainly didn't warrant a surprise event.

I agree the announcement is pretty pathetic, but guys lighten up it's kinda funny it's not like they did a keynote for it, it was just a thing on the front page. Also in reality who gives a ****? Great for the people who like the Beatles, people who don't? Oh no! I just wasted time worrying about an announcement by apple even though it probably wasn't gonna be anything that good anyway.

Get over yourselves, guys.

This is a sad day.... This day will go down in infamy with the killing of yet another famous repetitive rumor.

All the rumor-mongering that went into wondering if the Beatles would finally be included in iTunes with EVERY single iTunes announcement are now gone. Just as when Apple switched to the Intel chips so went the chance of ever getting a PowerBook G5.

*sigh*

The band is irrelevant to some of the previous generation, most of the current, and all future generations musical tastes.

You realize the band essentially redefined what rock music was and could be, yes? The vast majority of modern music owes a debt to the Beatles, their stylistic wanderings, and their studio production.

Read a book.

Well, whether you like their music or not, this is a big deal.

It's a big deal because one of the last major holdouts to digital distribution just signed on.

Sure, there are other groups, performers, and organizations that aren't embracing digital, but The Beatles are probably the best known. They were a large exemplar the others could rally around.

This day marks the beginning of the end of the very long realignment from physical media distribution to digital. (The "end" of the end will be when the final CD is pressed -- that's a few years off though...)

OK, so the announcement was somewhat overstated.

Unless I'm mistaken, iTunes is now the only place in the world to get the complete Beatles back catalogue digitally. That's a bit of a coup.

Actually there is the limited edition of the box set which comes on a usb apple which includes ALL the discography remastered in flac 24 bit and in mp3 320 kbps, flac 24 is a lot better than itunes crap at that price!

Great! I don't even like Beatles

Give me LOSSLESS MUSIC and they i will buy music on itunes for now i only buy on CD and then rip to itunes.

For me Evolution is for better and for now better is lossless (16bit 44.100 or more) or CD. itunes don't have any of these. Steve give people studio master was a option. I have a good system connect to my computer Genelec Monitors. So compressed sound is a BIG NO.

WTF! 10 people care apple!

Just like everything else on iTunes, it's still cheaper to buy the CDs than download some compressed version. Thanks Apple

I can't believe I spent all that time ten years ago importing my Beatles collection into iTunes. After today that all seems such a waste. I will never forget 11.16.10.
