Oh and they didn't do this for Michael Jackson? are you out of your mind Apple. Michael Jackson was far more popular than the beatles. Michael Crushes the beatles like a bug (no pun intended)

Totally agree, then it would me more worth while Apple doing that. if Anything more people listen to AC/DC than the beatles.

You realize that The Beatles have sold over twice as many albums in the US as AC/DC?

The Beatles record sales to date: Over 1.3 billion albums.

Michael Jackson's estimated sales to date: Over 750 million albums.

This forum never fails to amuse me:

1) "The Beatles are crap!" Yes, Junior and Little Suzy. Go back to your Justin Bieber and leave the grown-ups alone, please. Any one with any sense of Rock and Roll history knows how big the Beatles were and how much of an influence they continue to be.

2) "Boring! Apple really blew it!" You guys DO know how advertising works, right? I mean, no one in the world is really "in love" with McDonald's McRib . . . are they? No one actually thinks the iPad is "magical" . . . do they? It's hype, people. This is what companies are supposed to create! Besides, this is an event that has been a long time coming . . . since Apple first opened iTunes we've all been speculating, here and elsewhere, when the Beatles will finally be on iTunes. It's a big event in the history of iTunes, whether you care or not and it will have a big impact, not just on sales, but on the availability of other hold-out artists.

3) "I already have the Beatles on CD, this is meaningless to me." Oh, I didn't realize you represented the entire population of the world! There are plenty of people who still don't have their stuff, including a whole generation of younger listeners who have never bought a CD.

4) "No lossless! Boo!" Please. Chances are you don't have the equipment or the ears to tell the difference between a 256kbps AAC and a lossless file.

Bottom line: If you are disappointed, you only have your fervid imagination to blame. Apple has every right to be excited by this announcement and it's not like they set up a huge event or even huge expectations for this. Just a brilliant ad campaign that stole the thunder from Facebook and captured all our interest. Kudos to Apple and it's brilliant PR department.

+1. Everyone else. You'll have to wait till next year for the iTunes bread slicer cloud with free knife that cuts through nails and tomatoes.

Some people still enjoy album artwork, liner notes, printed lyrics, the ability to rip the music at whatever bit rate they choose, and some like to have the physical disc for archival purposes. Hard drives die, computers get stolen, etc. But if you have the disc, you can always re-rip the music.
I wonder if Apple will ever sell FLACs...

What a shame! Here we are all waiting for the new ios 4.2 release and excited about new features and we get an announcement like this??

To all the faithful Apple folks... there is no need to defend this marketing strategy. They should have been a bit more subtle about this announcement. By defending this joke of an announcement, you are making yourself look like you will follow Apple off a cliff.

This was a joke! I can't believe Apple used everyone's attention and focus on the company's new product launch and threw out this big hype. I feel like I was taken advantage of...lol

Like I said before...this would have been big news in the 60's.

Jobs loves The Beatles. He has done so much work in trying to create and perfect incredible products for us all. Can't the man have ONE day for himself?

Wth.. Who cares!!!

Any true Beatles fan already has the entire Beatles collection already on their iPod... all this hype over a couple of LPs and a video of their first concert.... give me a break...

Steve... you're losing your touch... I know you are excited about this... but the rest of us really don't give a rip...

You're smoking something if you think that Michael Jackson was bigger and more popular than The Beatles. Serious reality check. I listen to his stuff more than theirs, but they were still bigger 7 days a week and twice on Sunday (or Tuesday).

This announcement was not that big of a deal. MR members are only posting comments at about four seconds a page. If this were a major announcement, there would be more comments.

grrr, all that sleep I lost last night...

Ok, I love Beatles songs as much as the next person, but if this is the big announcement, big nothing for me.

I could not possibly give a **** less about the Beatles. There had better be a more substantial announcement.

Wow, what a pointless buildup. People who like the Beatles already have their music, and no one else cares. Sure I'll never forget this.

To the above and subsequent posts like these, please, get over your selves, Talk about being self absorbed. Sheesh!

Not to mention you own the CD where as iTunes music you have been given a license to listen to it.

Apple didn't actually cause the ruckus. They put a teaser on their website and the ruckus happened all by itself over a 24 hour period.

Right. When Apple called today "a day you'll never forget", we were in the wrong to expect a lot more than just a band being feature on iTunes.

What an absolute waste of time and money on advertising.., why would I give a rats ass about some beatnik/mod band from last century... I want software announcements.. Apple.. leave musical announcements to the music industry. And give me TRIM support and an OpenGL update in OS X while you are at it.

Total ambivalence from me. I don't really understand all the hate though. Just don't buy them. I'd still wager that the top selling songs next week will all be Beatles ones.

Also, to directly quote a FoxNews article someone sent me about this from earlier today,

"What's up Apple's sleeve? Apparently, Manchester's favorite mopheads."

JOURNALISM:rolleyes:

I think Apple could have done without the pre-announcement, should have just silently changed their website and iTunes.

If this is it, then it's a day to forget, if not a day to remember such a pointless build up leading to disappointment.

I agree 110%

If that was the big deal then it's Gunnar be hard to believe any future teasers either.

Well, at least Apple was right about one thing. It will be hard to forget how completely overblown this whole charade was. Are not enough people paying attention to the drama queen of gadget companies? I don't think this relatively minor contract dispute is as important to the average Gen-Y/X user as it apparently was to the upper execs. Apple, for your own long-term health, please get over yourself. The more you hoot and holler about even minor wins the less I can stand to be associated with you.

Say what you like about the way Apple annouced it, theres no doubting how big the beatles are. They are the biggest band the world has ever seen!

Only Elvis and Michael Jackson can have a claim to be as popular, important and influential as the Beatles.
