Totally agree, then it would me more worth while Apple doing that. if Anything more people listen to AC/DC than the beatles.
Oh and they didn't do this for Michael Jackson? are you out of your mind Apple. Michael Jackson was far more popular than the beatles. Michael Crushes the beatles like a bug (no pun intended)
This forum never fails to amuse me:
1) "The Beatles are crap!" Yes, Junior and Little Suzy. Go back to your Justin Bieber and leave the grown-ups alone, please. Any one with any sense of Rock and Roll history knows how big the Beatles were and how much of an influence they continue to be.
2) "Boring! Apple really blew it!" You guys DO know how advertising works, right? I mean, no one in the world is really "in love" with McDonald's McRib . . . are they? No one actually thinks the iPad is "magical" . . . do they? It's hype, people. This is what companies are supposed to create! Besides, this is an event that has been a long time coming . . . since Apple first opened iTunes we've all been speculating, here and elsewhere, when the Beatles will finally be on iTunes. It's a big event in the history of iTunes, whether you care or not and it will have a big impact, not just on sales, but on the availability of other hold-out artists.
3) "I already have the Beatles on CD, this is meaningless to me." Oh, I didn't realize you represented the entire population of the world! There are plenty of people who still don't have their stuff, including a whole generation of younger listeners who have never bought a CD.
4) "No lossless! Boo!" Please. Chances are you don't have the equipment or the ears to tell the difference between a 256kbps AAC and a lossless file.
Bottom line: If you are disappointed, you only have your fervid imagination to blame. Apple has every right to be excited by this announcement and it's not like they set up a huge event or even huge expectations for this. Just a brilliant ad campaign that stole the thunder from Facebook and captured all our interest. Kudos to Apple and it's brilliant PR department.
I wonder if Apple will ever sell FLACs...Some people still enjoy album artwork, liner notes, printed lyrics, the ability to rip the music at whatever bit rate they choose, and some like to have the physical disc for archival purposes. Hard drives die, computers get stolen, etc. But if you have the disc, you can always re-rip the music.
The Beatles were pure pop.

Um, quality?
320kbps isn't even comparable to CD (1411kbps) quality.
Or get the lossless version for 5$ more :

grrr, all that sleep I lost last night...
Ok, I love Beatles songs as much as the next person, but if this is the big announcement, big nothing for me.
I could not possibly give a **** less about the Beatles. There had better be a more substantial announcement.
Wow, what a pointless buildup. People who like the Beatles already have their music, and no one else cares. Sure I'll never forget this.

Apple didn't actually cause the ruckus. They put a teaser on their website and the ruckus happened all by itself over a 24 hour period.
If this is it, then it's a day to forget, if not a day to remember such a pointless build up leading to disappointment.
