Having downloaded a number of their tunes this morning and being blown away by how good they sound just blasting out from my laptop, it makes sense.

So they sound great blasting out from your tiny little laptop speakers? Good to know!

Selling The Beatles songs for more than the CDs cost and in worse quality. Truly a day that you'll never forget!

Just like everything else on iTunes.

I can see why some would be disappointed (Apple did lead on a bit too much) but it's definitely a good thing that this finally happened. Now people will stop bitching about it.

Now you can get a White Album, but you can't get a white iPhone!

I love the Beatles music. I was listening to Abbey Road when I was 12, in 1969, with two Beatles crazy teenage sisters and a brother in Vietnam. Their music was part of the era and yet it is timeless stuff. I bought the Beatles on vinyl, then on CD when they first came out, and then again on remastered discs last year. Of course I had them loaded up in itunes, as that is how I listen to music now. I just think calling this a day you won't forget was way over-hyping the announcement, but the Beatles music still astounds me. :D

One man did it all..

Are you serious? Jobs did it all? I see it more as teams and teams of lawyers making this happen.

Unrelated to HLdan:
All in all, great for Apple, but a day you will never forget? If that's true, you don't have much going on, do you?

meh disappointing announcement. it's history for apple, not history for the rest of the world :p

Why are there 5 Beatles albums in the iTunes top 20 already, less than 3 hours after going on sale (US Store)?
I expect by the end of this week, they'll all be in the Top 20, with a fair few in the Top 10.

People are too lazy to go the the store and buy the actual album, they'd rather have it instantly from their desk, no matter the cost.

Listen folks, what many of you are overlooking is that outside of the every-growing Mac community that frequents sites like MacRumors is an entirely different beast known as the music industry. The people there have their own giant corporations to follow, their own magazines and web sites and their own cult heroes. For these people, today's announcements was exponentially more important than a silly MacBook Air upgrade or new case design on an iMac or iPod.

This will be on the front page of Billboard next week, will have a giant write-up in Rolling Stone (if not a cover story there, too) and I guarantee that it's all people are talking about at entertainment hubs like the EMI offices, Sony/BMG HQ and the like.

For a keynote-less, media-less, 24 hour's notice announcement, I think this was the perfect size and scope and was well-executed.

All you need is lovvvv....

How inane is this announcement by Apple?!?
It's rather like the 1998' announcement of the new new psychedelic colored iMacs. Anyone remember how lame that one was?

Really... this is some California Kool-Aid overindulgence. Indeed, it will bring revenue to Apple, but it's lame and absurd to make a chest thumping 'look at us' look at us' announcment about any of this.

Had there been software upgrades with it- it might've made some sense but this is ridiculous... heck, even with ios upgrades it should have merely been noted, not announced.

And I've been programming them for 25 years, ha ha. Seriously, do you want a cookie or something.

Anyway, yay the Beetles are on I-Tunes. Woo freakin hoo.

Heh, no. I was trying to point out how silly the "my junk is bigger" arguments are.

Total agreement here.

I have just rated all of their albums 5 stars in iTunes. Not a fan myself but it should help combat those stupid one star reviews that people are giving for the fact that they didn't like the announcement. Im not blown away by the announcement but dont take it out on the album review page on iTunes.

Oh dear...so many negative comments!

Could it be that all the fat friendless apple fanboy nerds were expecting some shiny new toy to ask mummy and daddy to pay for....and fill that empty space normally taken by personal relationships.....but instead it turns out to be some music that cannot be plugged in or tapped or held...boo hoo !!

Why are there 5 Beatles albums in the iTunes top 20 already, less than 3 hours after going on sale (US Store)?

That is a seriously good question. Top 20 what exactly ? Sold in the last hour ? In the last 3 hours ?

You don't think *gasp* Apple could have manipulated the Top20 right ?

Seriously, it's not Top20 of all times. Let the hype die down a bit from the announcement and you can then judge the performance. Right now, it's plastered all over the place and all the people that were waiting for this are jumping on it.

Pathetic !

Even if this marketing stunt was part of the price you had to pay to get the Beatels catalogue from those greedy bastards, you should have had the balls to say no Jobs. What a pathetic waste of peoples attention.

To all of those saying there wasn't a lot of hype generated by Apple:

A multi-million dollar company dedicating the entire front page of their web site to advertise a "day you'll never forget" is a LOT of hype. Think of how many millions of hits that page gets every day. It's easy to say, "it's just a silly graphic on their front page," but it just doesn't work that way.

They also put Gregory Hines up on their front page in tribute the day he died. Was that for hype. Granted, they weren't selling anything of his, nor did they say, hey come back tomorrow to see this, but then again, they didn't exactly know he was going to die the day before he did, nor would that have been in very good taste. Just don't think they haven't dedicated their home page to a single individual before, because they have.

I gotta agree with MattG. (oh and Matt, they are a multi-billion dollar company.)

Apple is a company that loves it's surprise unveiling of "Big Deal" products. Putting Hines on the front page of apple.com a nice remembrance, quietly stating "Tomorrow is a day you'll never forget." is a HOLY ***** WHAT IS THE NEW REVOLUTIONARY THING APPLE IS GOING TO RELEASE!!!

The maner in which they were so reserved and secretive and apples history of announcements is what gave all the hype. And yeah, the fanboys didn't help either.

All in all a big whatever... the only people that this is really a big deal to are the music industry giants. And maybe the random beatles nerds who can't wait to get their hands on some DRMed copies.

No, but foolish people read far too much into it and then used their own self-initiated disappointment to smear Apple. Nice job!

this is a day you'll never forget.....that hype's it up pretty good on it's own.

again, you are the marketing genius so you should know that already.

Hilarious thread.

Clearly a lot of people around here take themselves far too seriously. The fact is, the lack of the Beatles was a huge, gaping hole in the iTunes library. That hole has been filled (after many years and lawsuits). I think that's very newsworthy.

I'm looking forward to expanding my paltry Beatles library significantly. I've been holding off buying cd's, hoping to get them on iTunes instead.

Today is a good day. Probably not as memorable as Apple's promo indicated, but that's marketing for you.

To those moaning about this not being important and 'too late' as everyone has their albums....

Why are there 5 Beatles albums in the iTunes top 20 already, less than 3 hours after going on sale (US Store)?
I expect by the end of this week, they'll all be in the Top 20, with a fair few in the Top 10.

Possible that Apple has manipulated the data to put the Beatles in the Top 20? It is their store afterall and Apple is notorious for creating hype.
