I can't believe all the negatives on this thread! Over 1500!

Guys, whether you hate The Beatles or not is not really the point here.

Apple and Apple Corps (the record company) have been fighting for over 30 years on the Apple name and other stuff relating to that. There have been several lawsuits spanning 4 decades ('78 to '06) and now they have worked things out to sell The Beatles music on iTunes. This is a huge, personal win for Apple and good for The Beatles as well.

Not sure what's there to fight about. Once is called Apple Inc and the other is called Apple Corp.

If consumers reach a ridiculous level of unbridled expectations, its because Apple leads us there.

Apple actually used the phrase "a day which you will never forget". We didn't infer it or make it up. Apple actually WROTE that on their iTunes site. A day I will never forget? Let's see, getting married. Birth of my first child. Apple releases Beatles songs on iTunes.

SAT verbal test here. Which of the above is not like the others?

While I would never expect any company to ever say anything that will make it "a day I will never forget", from Apple I could have expected a revolutionary game changer - e.g., their entire iTunes catalog of music and video available for streaming for a monthly fee. That would be cool. But making a catalog of one band, even a legendary one, for sale on iTunes? A day which I will never forget?

Come on now.

Nothing compares to the hype before the release of the Segway. That one didn't really pan out as advertised.

I think this warranted the small graphic that Apple posted. Think about it. Apple Records HATED Apple Computer. Now, Apple has the exclusive digital rights to the Beatles. That's pretty impressive. I would be beating my chest if I were Apple.

Apple Records never really hated Apple Computer but several times over twenty plus year the Beatles' Apple had to sue Apple Computers (the Beatles needed to protect their brand which was the first Apple). All along and every step, the computer company agreed not to get into the music related biz. They agreed to this in exchange to use the name Apple (since the Beatles used it first since 1968). Then Macs were able to create music. Lawsuit-Settlement. All was well until the iPod. Lawsuit and then settlement and then iTunes came along and the Beatles actually lost their case against the Computer company this time (i disagreed with that ruling). But afterwards Apple Computer settled and made nice with the Beatles, paid them a ton and all is good. This iTunes delay was mostly due to EMI and not the Beatles.

Great, only 9 years too late! Seriously apple are complete idiots: they lost millions in illegal downloads. Everyone who wanted their music on mp3s uploaded it a decade ago. Let's move on. :)

It wouldn't be so bad if they used this to announce they were going to be selling Apple Lossless versions of songs on iTunes but I can't see the point of buying lossy format digital files for the same price as a CD copy. Even Apple Corps & EMI put these out digitally last November on their limited USB in 24-bit FLAC!

And still it goes on... (I recognize the irony of posting about the many posts)

Out in the real world (outside the MR Forums echo chamber) there are many of my coworkers are pretty happy about this. They did not buy the re-mastered CD's when they came out and plan on getting some of the downloads now.

I could care less about iOS 4.x or 10.6.x or 10.7 since I am still using my 1st gen iPod touch, a PowerMac G5 and a Powerbook G4. I realize that I am now out of the upgrade loop but I do not shake my fists in the air proclaiming my geek rage. I accept it and move on. I realize that not every announcement from Apple will apply to me and that's OK. Not everything has to be all things to all people and I do not expect Apple to eliminate taxes or cure death, I do expect them to make periodic incremental changes to their products and services and with this announcement they have done exactly that; they now offer a good that cannot be obtained legally elsewhere and it is something that I can take advantage if I wish to.

If you believe that every announcement from Apple should herald a new golden age of technology and that it should meet all your Earthly needs you really need to evaluate your life.

.

Actually, Apple never wrote "a day which you will never forget". They actually wrote that tomorrow (i.e. today) is just another day and don't you forget that.

For some reason people forgot to read that there was a period (indicating the end of a sentence) after "Tomorrow is just another day".

This thread is hilarously retarded.

The Beatles are the BEST SELLING BAND OF ALL TIME. Regardless if you like their music or not, iTunes finally getting the catalog of the BEST SELLING BAND OF ALL TIME is definitely relevant news.

No it isn't because no one cares. They wanted a huge fanfare and all they got was bitching on internet messageboards like this. Don't get me wrong the hardcore Beatles fans who already have every song on every single format available will buy these and {heaven forbid} take 'Hey Jude' to number one on sunday. However if they think teenagers will suddenly stop listening to Lady Gaga and start buying up music that is forty years old, then you're mistaken.

Amazing

Seeing all the reactions in this thread (1200 comments!),I think apple was right,I'm not about to forget this day :p

All the people saying apple hyped this too much and it wasn't special are making it special because of all their rants.

So wait, what else then would you constitute a "game changer"? New Macbook Pros?

Wait....don't answer that. I almost forgot where I was for a second

But you know what...This probably will be a day you won't forget since it's caused so much controversy over nothing and like most here, you're putting up such a hissy fit over it.

This is hilarious. This thread is growing so fast, by the time you write a post there are several more pages of threads! Anybody who doesn't appreciate the Beatles needs to sit down and listen. (I didn't say 'love the beatles' I said appreciate.) They don't know what they're missing, and they don't know anything about music in the 20th century.

+1
Personally I can't stand Led Zeppelin but I can appreciate their musical talent.

You must be new to marketing...

Edit: and Apple would never release a game changer item through a press release.

No, it said:

"Tomorrow is just another day. That you'll never forget."

Nobody would believe that, but this announcement was advertised as "a day you will never forget."

I think it is Apple who is unrealistic.

You sir have won this thread! :D
Shut down the interwebs, this argument is over :D

Seriously what's the big deal. It's not like Apple printed coupons for free handjobs from Steve and then cancelled. They slightly hyped up an announcement what, 24 hours in advance, and it wasn't a giant blockbuster that reinvented the business.

What did you honestly expect?

This is not a big deal. Not everyone enjoys the Beatles. This in no way, shape, or form is exciting news. I don't like what the Beatles stand for in the modern era: money. Apple, you suck.

-An irate critic

really disappointing. I own all of Beatles on CD already :( Was expecting atleast the 90 sec preview. Hugely dissapointed

ITT: A bunch of whiny sourpusses pose and preen about how much cooler they are than you by hating on The Beatles.

I was hoping for a subscription streaming service though. Oh well, time to cross my fingers for next year.

The fact that it took 1200 posts for someone to come up with this indicates how few of you were alive when John Lennon's quote was mis-quoted. Ten-Oak-Druid, indeed quote of the day!
