Even I'll admit there are some Rap songs I find catchy. I wouldn't put any of it anywhere near the musical genius of The Beatles though.

Can't say I agree or disagree as I don't listen to either (rap or beatles. as I said, not a big rap fan. Honestly there's a few Eminem songs I like and maybe some Ice T) enough to really say. But I will say that I'm not a huge Beatles fan but there were a few songs I really like and they did put out some stuff I would say is good. But they also put out a lot of crap in my opinion (mostly their early stuff but they did refine themselves later on. And then got too drugged out and put out some crap then too, heh. I just don't like music that it is obvious the artist took too much drugs that the drugs more made the music).

And I will say I still listen to the few Eminem songs I liked from like 10 years ago and I still appreciate them (to me a helluva lot better than most hte stuff the music industry is foisting on us today). And... hey, he's influential enough that you brought him up despite the fact I'm pretty sure he's not big in the music scene these days (I think some one pointing out Lady Gaga and Bieber are more representative of the pop music scene these days. And I can happily say I don't listen to either of those, heh).

Well, whether you like their music or not, this is a big deal.

It's a big deal because one of the last major holdouts to digital distribution just signed on.

Sure, there are other groups, performers, and organizations that aren't embracing digital, but The Beatles are probably the best known. They were a large exemplar the others could rally around.

This day marks the beginning of the end of the very long realignment from physical media distribution to digital. (The "end" of the end will be when the final CD is pressed -- that's a few years off though...)

Yep this is job done for iTunes.
This as important a day for the store as it's release in each country they are now a complete music store. Plus it's ends Apple vs. Apple not just in the courts but everywhere.

I think it's a big deal for Apple maybe not so for the public.

Why all the hate on the Beatles? Do you guys actually know anything about them? I live my life encompassed in old music (being a classical piano major will do that) and all of my professors love the Beatles, reference the Beatles, and recognize their talent and importance (although we talk more about classical literature obviously). It's not about musical taste, it's about recognizing artistry. Their songs all sound the same? Really? Take some even basic music analyses classes and you'll understand that that statement is not true. ****, people who say that say the same thing about Mozart; it all sounds the same, light and fluffy (don't misinterpret me as saying the Beatles are on the same level as mozart, they are not)

And its a much bigger deal than you may know to get the Beatles onto a digitally distributed medium. There is a huge mess with copyrights regarding their songs; Michael Jackson actually held the rights before he died (NOT PAUL, even though he is still alive). I don't know who they went to once he did die, but it probably directly influenced this being able to happen.

I don't hate them, personally I was just expecting more than one band joining in on iTunes what with the hype that the company generated themselves over it.

Wonderful ! ;-)

Translation from PL to EN:
"Meanwhile - as it turned out - the Great Event consisted on the kind admission of The Beatles achievements to iTunes sources.
From now Steve will make money selling great hits: "Can't Buy Me Phone", "All You Need Is Mac" or "I Want to Hold Your Pad"."

Jackson's estate and Sony Music each own a 50% share the publishing rights to most of the Beatles songs. This has nothing at all to do with the distribution of the Beatles recordings, which are owned by the Beatles and EMI.

I swear, I've never understood why people liked the Beatles so much. They weren't especially good instrumentalists, they weren't good volcalists, they didn't harmonize well, and their tunes weren't especially catchy, and their lyrics weren't especially interesting or deep. Why the hell were they so popular?

Of course, my favorite band is They Might Be Giants, so there's no accounting for taste. :) At least their songs are catchy, they have good instrumentals (even if some of them are electronic), they harmonize well, and their lyrics have meaning below the surface.

I'll pick you cos you're here but to all the Beatle haters here......YOU ARE IDIOTS!!!!!
Your comments are so out there I really wonder if you have any ears or a brain at all.
Everything you accuse them of like harmony and catchy tunes are EXACTLY why they were the most popular band in the world.
But hey why would you care you have your opinion and that is all that counts :p

He wouldn't exactly be the first person to describe Zeppelin's music as having a darkness. Have you really not heard that before?

I've heard it before and I think it's a ridiculous description of their music. Dark is doom metal. Zeppelin is lightweight compared to that.

I don't think it's the Beatles as much as it's the hype of "a day we won't forget" by Apple. There are probably a bazillion other things that Apple could have announced that would make November 16th, 2010 a memorable day. (For me, all I'll remember about today is that I accidentally sent my LG phone through the wash.)

Why do people take Apple so literally? Did you really think there was actual magic in the iPad or that it would start a revolution? Why don't we apply the same standards to other companies? Apple is the only company in the world that gets taken to task for simply marketing their products. They just pulled off one of the biggest-bang-for-the-buck marketing campaigns in history, based on the amount of coverage it's getting in the press, blogosphere and word of mouth!

Tomorrow's Just Another Day.
That You'll Never Forget.

How did those 8 words cause so many people to lose their minds?

Years from now:
Friend 1, "Remember when all those people were complaining about The Beatles hype from Apple?"
Friend 2, "Yeah, they just kept going on and on about it. They were all so mad. I'll never forget that day."
Friend 1, "Yeah, me too."

I think it's pretty cool. I didn't hype anything at all, and that's probably why i'm not crying like the rest of you.

Do you think that it was part of an agreement? Beatles would only come to iTunes if it would be hyped and advertised like crazy (and other conditions we don't know about). Seems like it would make sense.

Bingo! Because the Beatles invented the word.

Just be thankful you're not posting that from your Coocoocachoo laptop!

No, but the Beatles were the first to use APPLE as the name for an International Music company: Apple Corp. There even was a division called Apple Electronics which was "intending to revolutionise the consumer electronics market." Obviously that didn't work out for them. They also had Apple Publishing, Apple Films, Apple Retail, Apple Studios and the Apple Boutique.

Jobs and Wozniak were included by the name of the Beatles Company and at the git go it was agreed they they (Computers) wouldn't enter the music business.

Woohoo! I'm gonna party like it's 1964!

Seriously, this might be a huge deal for the IP lawyers that were able to unravel all the rights issues, but for joe blow consumer or even Beatles fans this is about as hot as an ice cream sundae in Antarctica.

Why would a hard core Beatle fan care about the release of a lossy AAC when they probably have the lossless remastered CD box set? Why would your avg. consumer care when they could dig up Beatles CDs and roll there own for years. It's not like this is new material. It's 40-50 y.o. We've all heard it before. Not a big deal. At. All.

Maybe Apple was required to do this as part of the agreement....

Regardless, all they did was have an ad on iTunes and their website, they didn't really make a huge deal out of it. But, though I'm tired of their music and don't really care, it is cool that The Beatles are finally on iTunes.

I think some of you are overreacting to this.

Jeez, worst thing about this forum are the attitudes. And yes, I know it's the internet. And yes, I know I can leave.

If this was a big software change or technology reveal, Apple would reveal it with a Keynote or they would give longer notice for the announcement. They just mentioned something was happening in the next day, carefully chose words that echoed Beatles lyrics, and then released songs on iTunes they've been trying to get for years. It is a big deal as far as music goes on iTunes, so it was worth advertising. But they didn't go over the top, they only put up the cryptic image for one day. One day! They mentioned something is coming, and it did.

If you drove yourself crazy imagining all these new technologies in your head, are Apple the only ones who enjoy hype? You're not to blame at all for your disappointment? Be happy for those who will appreciate these songs on iTunes, and if you couldn't care less then start caring less!

I've heard it before and I think it's a ridiculous description of their music. Dark is doom metal. Zeppelin is lightweight compared to that.

All depends on how you use language to describe music, and the amount of nuance that you employ. Some people see more shades in music than that. But sure, Zeppelin is lighter than doom metal.

Someone should hurry up and make one of those Hilter parody videos from the Downfall movie. I can see Hitler freaking out over this seriously lame Beatles announcement. Pure comedy gold.

Where are all the Final Cut Pro experts in the house??? Get to it! We need a good laugh.

...Apple lost a great deal of credibility today because of Steve and his longtime musical obsession with the Beatles. At least we don't have to hear Beatles rumors any longer. Bring on the Verizon iPhone I say, LOL!!

Do you know why Steve Jobs has an obsession with the Beatles? Let me go *waaay* out on limb here and suggest, just perhaps, because both he and John Lennon were adopted, both he and John Lennon had a vision of perfection, both he and John Lennon spent some time studying eastern philosophy.

Nah. Forget it, I'm probably just plain wrong.

And without Chuck Berry and Little Richard etc we wouldn't have the Beatles yada yada yada. Saying we wouldn't have certain bands if it weren't for the Beatles is a pointless argument. That is until we discover parallel dimensions that didn't have the Beatles. ;) Music is an integral part of humanity that existed before the Beatles and would still exist without the Beatles.

Well, of course.

But the commenter specifically mentioned two bands that were directly influenced by the Beatles. Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin are products of the Beatles' legacy. So while he may not like the Beatles, he certainly likes music that was directly influenced by them and that may not have even existed without them. Sure, there would still have been music, but that's another argument. . .

It was suggested about 30 pages back...I'm sure somebody's working on it.

All the negative voters here probably believe this guy: " Kanye West thinks Coldplay will go down in history as the best-ever British band - insisting they are better than The Beatles".:confused:

You can't possibly overstate the importance the Beatles still have on the world. Think of your favorite band.... did they form after 1965? Yes? They would not have existed if it weren't for the Beatles.
