Thanks Essex! I'm just waking up in Sydney, Australia and I'm going back and reading all the posts in this hilarious thread. What a great way to start the day, LOL!!!

It was suggested about 30 pages back...I'm sure somebody's working on it.

Lennon wasn't adopted, he was raised by his aunt, and he did lose his mother TWICE. So could work in your theory just fine.

Nah. Forget it, I'm probably just plain wrong.

But that's just it, they didn't make a fuss. MR did, along with the rest of the news media that saw the announcement. Only 24 hours of an announcement with very little marketing. It's not like we all waited weeks with all sorts of advertising. I'm beginning to hate Macrumors because some people here take the fun out of being here with constant Apple hate and way too much negative energy for no reason and all this sense of entitlement for nothing that they deserve. If you bought into the hype and you're disappointed, it's YOUR FAULT!

Bravo and well said.
How can a simple (yet significant) announcement from a computer company get so many people so riled up?
No wonder we live in such a negative world with people like these sprouting hate and venom at MUSIC!!!!!

Absolutely! My sentiment stated very eloquently, thanks!

I'll third it. That's basically what I've been saying since yesterday. The "hype" that everyone is complaining about didn't come from Apple. In comparison to practically every other announcement Apple has ever made, this one ranks at the very bottom in terms of hype. They put a graphic on their site that consisted of two sentence fragments. That's all. Nothing more, nothing less. All the hype was generated by sites like this one and by people who post on boards like this who made MONUMENTALLY huge assumptions based on practically no evidence whatsoever.

If you count yourselves amongst the people who feel extremely disappointed by this announcement you really have no one to blame but yourself.

I don't live too far from Robert Plant and I've seen him play a few very low key venues including one at his local village hall doing Beatles, Elvis and Cliff Richard rock & roll covers with a teenage backing band.

Ozzy Osbourne is another local lad made good who claims the Beatles were his biggest influence. I'm not sure you can hear it on Black Sabbath's debut album though. :D

Nice.

Sometimes it's not the music so much but the success and the inspiration you get from that. But I definitely hear some Beatles in some Sabbath music, especially Abbey Road . . .

You're suggesting his opinion is somehow more valid than anyone else's on the matter. I'm suggesting the guy was strung out for decades to the point that his opinion isn't any more valid than anyone else's. The guy was a brilliant musician, but that doesn't mean he's a brilliant music critic.

He was just talking about the balance between the quiet and loud parts of his songs i.e. the dynamics of the music. It makes sense to me having listened to his work. I don't get why you are making such a big thing about it?

Quiet and loud are probably better terms then, eh? :)

Me too, please.

Hah! I love that line. May I borrow it?

Bfd!!

Most folks got the re-mastered set when they came out via the interwebs and those naughty torrents. Come on Steve, this is definitely not a day to remember. Yawn .....

Thank you.

Yes they do. There are two kinds of people in this world.... People who like the Beatles, and people who haven't REALLY listened to the Beatles.

Thank you for that.

For all the hard rock / stoner's out there - listen to the White Album or Yellow Submarine. Now tell me they didn't influence anyone who's just not into "pop" music - they had an amazing reach and kept expanding their range well beyond their original (1964-ish) influences.

Not the best news I have heard, but I think it means more to jobs than any of us. Cool that he achieved another goal. Never give up is what should be taken from this. Even if your goals are outdated.

Have you ever heard doom metal? "Brash" is not really the word I'd use to describe it. Brash is more appropriate for something like thrash metal.

Music is music. Beauty is in the ear of the beholder. Trying to make the claim that The Beatles are inferior musically to other kinds of music is absurd. There are excellent and accomplished bands in every genre.

Now, what is not a matter of opinion is the fact that The Beatles have thus far stood the test of time. They're still one of the top selling acts of all time, including being the top selling band of 2009 due to the remastered catalogue. We can debate all day and all night about individual taste, but that's a purely subjective discussion that can have no resolution. But there is NO debate when it comes to their popularity, their continuing value as a product, their overall artistic merit and the influence they've had on the entire popular music genre. Attempting to suggest that The Beatles are not relevant to a modern audience is a losing battle.

Dumb. All the hype just to announce the Beatles on iTunes. If this is the thing Steve is starting to think is a huge deal that people will remember for a long time, perhaps it is getting close to time to step down.

The hype was all in the heads of people who read too much into the very low key teaser that Apple put on their home page. Apple did not hype this much at all.

Holy butt monkeys people here are stupid. You can't possibly overstate the importance the Beatles still have on the world. Think of your favorite band.... did they form after 1965? Yes? They would not have existed if it weren't for the Beatles.

This thread is hilarious, and yes, apparently, approximately 95% of the people posting are indeed stupid. There's just no other way to explain the reaction.

But...but...but...teh iOS4.2 is more important than the biggest band in history. But...but...but I know it said an announcement from iTunes, but I thought it would be cloud storage. But...but...but teh Beetles suck. We like 50 Cent...

Grow. Up.

This is all over the media, even allowing for the Royal Wedding engagement being announced today. And the Beatles are going to dominate the charts now that downloads are counted. It's a huge coup for iTunes to be the sole digital distributor of their music.

And the First band to be immortalised in the form of an almost real gaming experience in Beatles Rock Band.

Yes i know there have been other bands with games made about them but not to the extent as the Rock band game..... complete with replica instruments and game graphics designed around their whole career.
