Music is music. Beauty is in the ear of the beholder. Trying to make the claim that The Beatles are inferior musically to other kinds of music is absurd. There are excellent and accomplished bands in every genre.

Now, what is not a matter of opinion is the fact that The Beatles have thus far stood the test of time. They're still one of the top selling acts of all time, including being the top selling band of 2009 due to the remastered catalogue. We can debate all day and all night about individual taste, but that's a purely subjective discussion that can have no resolution. But there is NO debate when it comes to their popularity, their continuing value as a product, their overall artistic merit and the influence they've had on the entire popular music genre. Attempting to suggest that The Beatles are not relevant to a modern audience is a losing battle.

I think you quoted the wrong guy here or something. My quote wasn't even about the Beatles. I was talking to someone else about doom metal, haha. As far as the Beatles go, they are the most influential music act of the last 50 years. They continue to influence anyone who makes "new" music today.

And the First band to be immortalised in the form of an almost real gaming experience in Beatles Rock Band.

Yes i know there have been other bands with games made about them but not to the extent as the Rock band game..... complete with replica instruments and game graphics designed around their whole career.

Absolutely awesome game, by the way. All it needs is more DLC.

I wasn't responding specifically to your post, but to the conversation generally. Sorry if you got that impression. I wasn't criticizing you.

So if I can get the box set, why heck would I pay the same price for the digital version of it? In lesser quality no less.

And a lovingly crafted stage show in Las Vegas featuring incredible acrobatic interpretations of their music set to reworked versions of their original studio recordings.

Ok Elvis has one of those too but it pales in comparison to what they did with the Beatles.

Quiet and loud are probably better terms then, eh? :)

Uh, no. They're not descriptive in the slightest. I think when people refer to the music of Zeppelin as having a dark power, it's generally pretty well understood what they mean by it. I honestly don't understand your objection.

A lot of great music has dark overtones. Is it pitch black? No. Is it "evil"? No. But nobody said either of those things.

Listen to some Guapo and tell me if you think it's dark. Or '69-'74 Miles Davis. Or '73-74 King Crimson. Or Mahavishnu Orchestra. Or Godspeed You Black Emperor. I'd describe them all as having dark overtones of one sort or another, and a lot of people would know what I meant by that.

Lots of reasons. For one, in order to get the entire Beatles catalogue on CD you have to buy both mono and stereo boxes. That means buying a BUNCH of duplicate content. For another, many consumers don't want to buy the whole catalogue, just a few albums or songs. For even another, many consumers, perhaps the majority either don't know how or don't want to bother with ripping CDs to their iTunes library.

Those are some of the reasons. There are many others too. As I've said before in the thread, don't make the mistake of thinking that everyone approaches their music collection in the same way that you do. Everyone manages their music purchases differently. Just take a look at the rankings for The Beatles on iTunes. If it was SO compelling to just buy the box sets and rip the discs, why would anyone be buying the digital versions, let alone enough to put them in the top 20 of overall iTunes sales in less than 24 hours?

Having just listened to the previews of some of the tracks in iTunes, I remembered why I never bothered with Beatles on my iPhone. The hard panning of voices and instruments just makes it impossible to listen to on headphones. It's too bad that iDevices don't have the option to 'force' mono audio.

Because you wod be getting it from apple
Because you would have to download it
Because you want the restrictions iTunes places on sharing
Because you can't be bothered popping in a higher quality media and enjoying it on a "system"

I ordered the box set from amazon. This way I can rip what I want, put it on a disk or an "i" product

That's just me though.

I saw Love just a few months ago. It was excellent. Exceeded my expectations by miles. And guess what? Most of the audience was in the 20 - 30 year old range. I didn't see more than a handful of boomers... though one of the boomers I saw was Rick Steves.

Forced mono would suck on these recordings.

The hard panning is only present on the discs that were retroactively mastered in stereo back in the '60s. The later albums were mastered for stereo from the outset. If you want to hear The Beatles early albums as they were intended you need to listen to the original mono masters.

The hype was all in the heads of people who read too much into the very low key teaser that Apple put on their home page. Apple did not hype this much at all.

"A day you will never forget" is hardly a low-key teaser.

Typical Apple. Making a mountain out of a mole hill better than anyone in the industry.

And without Chuck Berry and Little Richard etc we wouldn't have the Beatles yada yada yada. Saying we wouldn't have certain bands if it weren't for the Beatles is a pointless argument. That is until we discover parallel dimensions that didn't have the Beatles. ;) Music is an integral part of humanity that existed before the Beatles and would still exist without the Beatles.

....And without Marty McFly..... ;)

This thread is hilarious, and yes, apparently, approximately 95% of the people posting are indeed stupid. There's just no other way to explain the reaction.

But...but...but...teh iOS4.2 is more important than the biggest band in history. But...but...but I know it said an announcement from iTunes, but I thought it would be cloud storage. But...but...but teh Beetles suck. We like 50 Cent...

Grow. Up.

This is all over the media, even allowing for the Royal Wedding engagement being announced today. And the Beatles are going to dominate the charts now that downloads are counted. It's a huge coup for iTunes to be the sole digital distributor of their music.

LOL. Well done. Too be young and foolish again. :apple:

Definitely forgettable!

I'm sick of this MAGICAL s**t!
Apple's over exaggeration machine is working in full swing.

I haven't time to cruise through this thread, but I seems like this must have come together in a big hurry. The commercials repeat the same photos. I think they were probably done (or could have been done) in about 10 minutes in iMovie.

SJ: Fred, quick! Commercials!
Fred: Gottem boss.
