Ooh, bad karma, When that guy leaves (one way or the other) we're gonna miss him A LOT.

Be very careful what you wish for.

Dumb. All the hype just to announce the Beatles on iTunes. If this is the thing Steve is starting to think is a huge deal that people will remember for a long time, perhaps it is getting close to time to step down.

So if I can get the box set, why heck would I pay the same price for the digital version of it? In lesser quality no less.

Because it takes an extra step to get it on your iPod ? ;)

Why else would people buy music from a source that offers the least possible quality of the pay-for options ?

"A day you will never forget" is hardly a low-key teaser.

Typical Apple. Making a mountain out of a mole hill better than anyone in the industry.

I think you misunderstand how marketing works. Look on your TV, on practically any Web site or any print magazine. Companies make outrageous claims like that all the time. The reason I say that this wasn't hyped much is due to the extent of the pre-release campaign. The ENTIRE extent of it was two fragment sentences on Apple's home page. That's all. No TV ads, no press conference, no Jobs keynote, not even a simple press release. Just a simple graphic on their site. There's simply no way to spin that into "over hyped." They didn't hype it at all in terms of the scope of the campaign. The entire thing probably took a graphic artist about 5 minutes to put together. Apple didn't make a mountain out of a mole hill in this case. What happened was that Apple fanbois thrust all their hopes and dreams on a single line of text and then got outraged when Apple didn't announce that it had cured cancer and instituted world peace.

Apple were right this is a day we will never forget. The day Apple really angered it's fans/supporters with the most pointless announcement in their history.

The beatles don't deserve all this fuss when they probably only allowed their music to be sold on itunes because they know their old distobution model is dead and the would have been nothing but left for dust if they did not stop this stupid attitude of we will not be on itunes.

I am so glad to see the mojority of people are giving the Beatles the sort of welcome they deserve. LOL

Awesome for Beatles fans, lame for the other 95% of us.

Hardly. Any real Beatles fan already own their albums and so this is a big nothing announcement. The only people that might care are younger kids who are curious about what the big deal is about this group. IMO, very little. They were interesting (i.e. new) in their day and some of the songs are still catchy, but I'd take Pink Floyd or Tori Amos over them any day of the week, personally. I could never understand the "craze" factor over them. But then I don't get what's so special about someone like Brad Pitt either.

I love all the people complaining about the big announcement being The Beatles coming to iTunes. Seriously folks?! All I have read for YEARS is people complaining about iTunes not carrying a single song of theirs. All that was on there were remakes of specific songs that weren't even that great. Now we have The Beatles on iTunes. After many many years of waiting, we have them. Now what?! A leading majority of people are disappointed because they wanted some new technology?! Come on folks, why must we as Apple users, be so hard to please all the time?! We wanted Newton, we got iPod, disappointment, sold huge in the end. We wanted Mac OSX on a Tablet, got iOS. Many were like "What's with the big iPod Touch?!" Well, it sold big in the end, and lots of people love it. Honestly folks, if Apple were to release a new version of iTunes tomorrow and it had streaming, you would manage to find something wrong with it and complain about it too.

I for one, am happy that The Beatles are here, and that they sound pretty great too, even in a compressed digital format. I guess I am too easy to please though.

QFT!!! Brilliant Post. Sometimes I wish Apple would just go away and then we would have boring tech from Microsoft and no innovation so these crybabies can see what they are missing.

I'm pretty sure the Beatles did just fine without iTunes for a while. They also never need to make another cent again ever in their lives.

I'm pretty sure the box set on iTunes is only the stereo version.

That's a shame. The mono masters are the discs to have. All the albums except for Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road and Let it Be were originally mastered in mono and were intended to be heard that way. The stereo remasters were made to appeal to early adopters of the new technology. The band, Lennon in particular, were unhappy with the stereo versions and strongly encouraged people to buy the discs in the original mono masters.

I'd expect the monos to show up on iTunes sooner or later.

Lame. nobody really cares about the Beatles. If you wanted beatles you can just rip the songs from your own CD's. what's the big deal?

Anyone with some knowledge of pop music and of the music industry, and with a modicum of intelligence can easily understand why this is news worthy of a lot of attention, and also why apple+itunes earned some bragging rights today.

as let down as i am that this was the "big" announcement....still awesome

anyone see the commercials yet? their pretty cool (well video one anyways)

also THEY SHOULD DEFINITELY make posters like they did for the Think Different commercial....but mass produce them so they dont cost 1000$ :D

"oh this is so overhyped, whine, whine, whine, complain, complain, complain."

so.....what did you think marketing departments were for?

I guess you must be looking at the top selling albums page on the iTMS huh? The sort of welcome they deserve, indeed.

Apple never done their market research with this. If you got to amazon you can get the box set foor $129 with the exact same songs which you could then rip onto iTunes so I really can't see anyone buying this

would these two Beatles articles be the most negative voted ones in Macrumors history lol, combine them and you've got a negative force to be reckoned with even I voted negative and I usually dont bother

This argument has been made several times in the thread. I'll respond the same way I did before:

There's nothing unique about The Beatles in this respect. You can get practically ANY band's music cheaper somewhere other than iTunes. You can get CDs on sale. You can get used CDs. You can even get cheaper digital downloads from some sources. And yet iTunes still makes money hand over fist because the availability of cheaper hardcopies is completely irrelevant to many consumers. It's a big mistake to think that everyone's buying habits are exactly the same as yours. They're not.
