What happened was that Apple fanbois thrust all their hopes and dreams on a single line of text and then got outraged when Apple didn't announce that it had cured cancer and instituted world peace.

ROFL *snicker*.

Heh, I'll admit I was hoping for something more exciting (to me) but honestly, I don't think it's overhyped, I think it's Apple trying to market stuff *shrug*. I'll admit, I wish it was something more exciting (to me this isn't exciting *shrug*), but I gotta agree with you on the people who are outraged it's not something else. And, it's just marketing people! Yeesh! That's what they do, get you to pay attention.

And boy did they get you all to pay attention.

As for the person who said to check out the negatives as proof that this was horrible on Apple's part... you're looking at a poll from a website dedicated to Apple stuff... it's not the most unbiased group of people to really be trying to get an opinion of what most people think ;).

would these two Beatles articles be the most negative voted ones in Macrumors history lol, combine them and you've got a negative to be reckoned with even I voted negative and I usually dont bother

Yeah, because those pos/neg buttons are completely scientific. The most reliable polling data on the entire InterTubes.

Apple never done their market research with this. If you got to amazon you can get the box set foor $129 with the exact same songs which you could then rip onto iTunes so I really can't see anyone buying this

Or, you could download them and not spend hours playing frisbee with CDs ripping them. Convenience is something many people value.

400 positives, 2000 negatives... This is what happens when you over hype something... This should have been 2400 positives; the fact it isn't proves the overhype advertising technique simply doesn't work... I'm surprised apple aren't clever enough to know this already. Well, I guess they do now...

And maybe the random beatles nerds who can't wait to get their hands on some DRMed copies.

Because you want the restrictions iTunes places on sharing

There has been quite a few of these comments about DRM in this thread. Are people unaware that Apple (and most others) dropped DRM on music over a year ago? Or have the official talking points not been updated yet?

2000 negatives on an Apple rumor site frequented by geeks is hardly representative of the iTunes demographics, and it is a drop in the bucket to the numbers overall. I suggest a better test would be the sales and $$ generated, not the frownie faces on a Forum.

Yeah... clearly. Wish I had .01 of those non-exsistant sales that the one page Zero cost ad did for them all in 7 hours.

/sarcasm.

Let me see here. My iTunes since 2004 search "The Beatles" = 238 Songs. iTunes Music Store = 256 Items

I think I'll pass. Probably just missing those 30 minutes dialogues by not having waited a decade for this.

It's not over hyped... just a side affect of the Beatles sucking.

Will we getting similar announcements for when all the other hold-outs from the digital age join the iTunes Store?

re. the positive/negative comment ratio - I guess this is what happens when you don't join the revolution when it happens.

Please tell me what the extent of Apple's pre announcement campaign was so that I can assess whether they hyped it too much. How much did they spend on advertising? Where did they hold the press event? How many weeks ago did they start saying there was something in the works? How many Web sites and magazine ad buys did they do?

Because if there is one thing Apple isn't very good at, it's marketing.

But then, the only reason any Apple products are popular is because of their marketing.

I'm confused.

This will help to prove that Beatles music was meant to be heard on a single speaker mounted on the dash of a loud muscle car with a bad muffler. Don't see how you can digitally enhance, "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah..."

The second they said "...a day you will never forget"...like it was comparable to 911.

This argument has been made several times in the thread. I'll respond the same way I did before:

There's nothing unique about The Beatles in this respect. You can get practically ANY band's music cheaper somewhere other than iTunes. You can get CDs on sale. You can get used CDs. You can even get cheaper digital downloads from some sources. And yet iTunes still makes money hand over fist because the availability of cheaper hardcopies is completely irrelevant to many consumers. It's a big mistake to think that everyone's buying habits are exactly the same as yours. They're not.

Just the same I think it's a big mistake to confuse new music w/ 40-50 year old music. People d/l new music over going to buy CDs because it's easier and instant. But most Beatles fans have bought and rebought the CDs for years. There is no reason to d/l them -- they already own the CDs. It's NOT like people are going to see the Beatles are released on iTunes today and think... should I buy the CD or d/l it as they do with fresh music.

Who the eff cares about Beatles?

Ok, apple, that's it. You've gone too far this time.
Tomorrow i'll sell my mac.

Epic Sook!

iTunes got the Beatles

This is a good thing.

Get over yourselves.

Just because you personally don't think it's with making a big deal out of, doesn't mean it isn't

Fanbois.... Stupid idiots think that everything apple does, should be for them.

Most boring and underwhelming announcement from Apple. They really hyped themselves up. I hope Steve takes this as a clue that just because he's Apple, doesn't mean everything he does will be award winning, never forgetting.
