What a jip.

This is the most underwhelming announcement that I have witnessed from Apple. Steve must get wet when he hears the Beet-oyles or something. I'm literally still waiting for the real news to appear, any minute now...

2000 negatives on an Apple rumor site frequented by geeks is hardly representative of the iTunes demographics, and it is a drop in the bucket to the numbers overall. I suggest a better test would be the sales and $$ generated, not the frownie faces on a Forum.

Brilliantly said, and I agree 100%.

Just the same I think it's a big mistake to confuse new music w/ 40-50 year old music. People d/l new music over going to buy CDs because it's easier and instant. But most Beatles fans have bought and rebought the CDs for years. There is no reason to d/l them -- they already own the CDs. It's NOT like people are going to see the Beatles are released on iTunes today and think... should I buy the CD or d/l it as they do with fresh music.

But they will. Back a few years ago, I bought the Complete Led Zeppelin, the Complete Bob Dylan, Complete Depeche Mode and the Complete U2. I already had my most favorite CDs over the years and in the case of U2, Zeppelin and Depeche Mode, the vinyl albums as well. I bought the complete collections when they were released on iTunes simply to have the everything they had ever done. In the case of U2, Dylan and Depeche Mode, I still to this day have not listened to everyone of those albums but I'm glad I still have them. I bought them in iTunes simply because I didn't have to rip my CDs to get them on the iPod.

I seriously cannot believe that this pointless topic has managed to accrue 1400+ posts. You guys REALLY need to get our more... no, SERIOUSLY.

Love it got the full box from iTunes now. This is a big deal for Apple and iTunes, cause they tried to get the Beatles in iTunes for such a long time and now they did it.

Great work!

Wow. This appeals to about 2 percent of Apple product owners. Well I guess they've got to cater to every demographic. Maybe the downloads will come with Depends ads.

Most boring and underwhelming announcement from Apple. They really hyped themselves up. I hope Steve takes this as a clue that just because he's Apple, doesn't mean everything he does will be award winning, never forgetting.

What.... From the **** load of money he'll be generating from the beatles catalogue as it sells it's arse off to new listeners for the next 40 or so years?

Yeah, and that's why Beethoven and Mozart never sell anymore.

Sorry, but the "they're from the '60s so no one will buy it" argument is hogwash. Go look at the top charts on iTunes today. I rest my case.

Bugger me. Just gone onto the iTunes store...if I didnt know better I would have said Apple Corps > Apple Inc!

Apple sold out BIG TIME on this. What a load of crap.

Take a look! (Attached)

The second they said "...a day you will never forget"...like it was comparable to 911.

Because you and a lot of other people failed to consider the context (a simple graphic on their site that appeared less than 24 hours before the announcement) the fact that you expected something as earth shattering as 9/11 really is on you, not Apple.

Wow, I've come back from a meeting and find people are still grumbling about this.

Apparently Apples marketing was an epic fail. I'd love failing marketing like this.

It's fun to make up numbers, isn't it? 2%? That's a fun number! A complete fantasy on your part, but fun!

Totally. They spent maybe five minutes of a graphic artist's time and devoted less than 24 hours of their home page to said graphic and it worked so well that a great many people here seem to think that they hyped it like the second coming. Apple's marketing department should get a raise.

And what's even more amazing, it's a band from the 60s! :D

Um.... You're aware that the beatles albums still sell their arses off every year.....

Yes, and so do Elvis, Madonna and many others. For that matter, Lady Gaga has sold more albums at this point in her career than the Beatles did at the same point in their career. But none of those warrant the "Day you will never forget" hype, do they? I just think it's sad of Apple to overhype something that appeals to far less than a majority of Apple product owners.

Clearly the majority of users on this forum don't see it as a big deal. I can't imagine the ratio out there in the real world is that far off.

Yes, it's kind of tongue in cheek. I don't know what the number actually is, but clearly it's not anywhere near a majority of Apple product owners. Look at the negative vs positive on this topic - currently 1280 vs 229. That's a pretty good indication that most people don't regard this as a "day they will never forget".

I love how some people act as if a single line of copy is tantamount to the most aggressive marketing campaign ever created by man. Sorry, but a couple lines of text that appeared for a very short time does not constitute "overhype." What constitutes overhype is all the absurd and reckless speculation that happened here and elsewhere based on that single line.

If you got so fooled by this minor marketing "campaign" then maybe you need to revisit the old adage that goes "don't believe everything you read."

The negative and positive rankings on this story are utterly meaningless. If you want REAL data go look at the sales charts on iTunes today. Then come back and tell us how only 2% of iTMS users care about The Beatles.

I will forever remember today as the day that Apple's brand jumped the shark.

Seems to me that that post says more about you than it does about Apple.
