Is there any news item that has more negatives than this? Or at least a positive:negative ratio as bad?

Bugger me. Just gone onto the iTunes store...if I didnt know better I would have said Apple Corps > Apple Inc!

Apple sold out BIG TIME on this. What a load of crap.

Take a look! (Attached)

It's impossible to "sell out" of digital, virtual products! :D

(yes, I actually do know this isn't what you meant)

The Beatles!? Been there done that. There is music that I would love to get but is only available on the France or Canada iTunes stores. Living in the US I am out of luck. Please, tear down those walls Mr. Jobs. That I would at least ...appreciate.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Omg the beattles are now on iTunes? I think I'm gonna **** myself... What great news this has been, what an event! The next iPhone launch is gonna have to be out of this world if they want to match the sort of excitement I got from the beatles going on iTunes.

Yes, it's kind of tongue in cheek. I don't know what the number actually is, but clearly it's not anywhere near a majority of Apple product owners. Look at the negative vs positive on this topic - currently 1280 vs 229. That's a pretty good indication that most people don't regard this as a "day they will never forget".

I've said it a few times already today and I'll say it again.

There is no way that the users of MacRumours constitute anything like a representative sample of the population when it comes to Apple related news.

We care about the other possibilities that were being discussed yesterday. The average iTunes user really couldn't care less about them.

Well, this is... disappointing. I don't think any of us could have expected such a hype filled announcement that was full of empty air :( Also, considering the fact that there are already 5 tv ads for this is pointless. There weren't even that many iPad ads for a while . Very pointless, just plain useless (except for the few Beatles fans ) announcement Apple. Until the next (unforgettable) announcement, we'll all see how the future of Apple hype goes.

Yawning

I'm sorry to add my voice to the noise but Yawn, this is the most boring news from apple ever. It is worse then there HiFi iPod system.

Wow. This appeals to about 2 percent of Apple product owners. Well I guess they've got to cater to every demographic. Maybe the downloads will come with Depends ads.

Yet another Poster Child for those in favor of abortion

Please tell me what the extent of Apple's pre announcement campaign was so that I can assess whether they hyped it too much. How much did they spend on advertising? Where did they hold the press event? How many weeks ago did they start saying there was something in the works? How many Web sites and magazine ad buys did they do?

You should work in advertising

Most boring and underwhelming announcement from Apple. They really hyped themselves up. I hope Steve takes this as a clue that just because he's Apple, doesn't mean everything he does will be award winning, never forgetting.

Geee...I just grabbed your post as example so don't take it personal...

1st: You certainly haven't witnessed the now famous introduction of Apple reinventing the home stereo (official pr at that time) - the magical iPod Hi-Fi

2nd: Apple and Apple both have a long and outstanding legal rivalry around the name Apple - so actually this is a pretty big deal. If you want to dig deeper into it, google Sosumi

I wouldn't call myself a fan of The Beatles, but their music is good, and you have to respect whatever it was that was so revolutionary about them at the time they first emerged. I'm pretty sure a good amount of people "give an eff" about them, but I agree with the fact that it was idiotic for Apple to give so much hype to this. I mean, come on...

Didn't they debut a $99 leather iPod holder or something at the same event? And they actually had people turn up for that one, instead of just checking a website!

Again, where is this over exuberant hype? How in the world does two sentence fragments on a single graphic that existed for less than 24 hours constitute too much hype?

Seriously. This meme people are trying to create about how this announcement was over hyped is nothing but hot air. The announcement was not over hyped. if anything it was UNDER hyped. Why won't people apply the same critical thinking that they do to every other company to Apple? When Chevy tells you that their trucks are game changers, do you think anyone seriously thinks "if this isn't the greatest truck ever created by man, I'm going to flame Chevy until judgment day!"? Open your eyes. Statements like the one Apple made are par for the course when it comes to marketing efforts. A single ad does not constitute over hyping something. A massive campaign is required for that, and Apple did not launch a massive campaign around this. They barely even promoted it, given the fact that the teaser appeared less than 24 hours before the announcement and wasn't even accompanied by a press event or even a press release.

Get some perspective, people.

No wireless. Less space than a nomad. Lame.

Best Selling CD of the last decade (1: The Beatles)

Yep. No one care about forty year old music

After all these years on MacRumors, I have realized one thing.

People are never happy. The only people who over-hyped this was the users and the tech media. Not Apple. It's like some kids at Christmas. After unwrapping all their presents, they say "That's it?" "I'm bored!"

You don't like the Beatles, that's fine. Your choice. But don't think your view represents everyone. There are people who will buy this stuff.

I'm sorry you didn't get :::insert Apple product here::: , but some of you people need to grow up. :(

Beatles take a walk in cupertino.

I like The Beatles.
I like Apple.

It was cool.

Read this little skit:

Steve Jobs: "Hello gentlemen, it is an honor to have you guys here we never expected the Beatles in Apple HQ. If you step this way I can give you a tour."

Paul: "whots in dat rooom?"

Steve: "sorry, we don't let anyone in there"

John Lennon: "You keep animels der or something?"

Steve: "No that's our OS roo.."

Ringo Starr: "But there's a Ly-on on the door there"

Steve: "I know, if we can just go this way"

George Harrison: "whot was dat oll about?"

Ringo : "I dn't know he's got tigers leopards and lion pictures"

(whisper)John:"must be a safari fan or something"

Yes, and so do Elvis, Madonna and many others. For that matter, Lady Gaga has sold more albums at this point in her career than the Beatles did at the same point in their career. But none of those warrant the "Day you will never forget" hype, do they? I just think it's sad of Apple to overhype something that appeals to far less than a majority of Apple product owners.

Clearly the majority of users on this forum don't see it as a big deal. I can't imagine the ratio out there in the real world is that far off.

2 years after the Beatles started recording, they set records for the most number of records sold in the US for a single act in a year, and also a record for the most simultaneous entries in the Billboard top 100 that have never been broken. According to the RIAA, the Beatles are the best selling act of all time, ever. Elvis began recording before the Beatles (indeed when they formed, a lot of their repertoire was Elvis covers), and the Beatles have sold more than Elvis, despite him starting recording before they formed and continuing after they split. The fact is, the Beatles are the best selling band ever, and Apple has an exclusive to sell their music. It's just a few hours after their stuff went on sale, and they are already in the top 10 chart for the best selling albums on iTunes, although i'm pretty sure the charts are based on sales over a longer period than a few hours.

People on here may not care for the Beatles, but the fact is in 8 years of recording, they recorded the best selling music of all time ever. Nobody else is even close to that.

Yep, why the hell they hyped this I don't know. There's nothing memorable about a release of 40-odd year old songs.

Really, Beatles fans will already have the music. The rest of us, those of us with taste, don't care whether you sell it or not anyway.

Yep, I've had the entire Beatles catalog (lossless) for 3 years. This is a non-event. They missed the boat on this because of haggling... and now they will suffer the consequences of less sales. Blame Yoko... again.
