This.

While the "things I miss about my Blackberry" list is a relatively short one, this feature is probably at the top. A simple, not-distracting-to-others, non-vibrate type notification when new emails/texts come in.

This is on the top of my wishlist for iphone 6. LED light with customizable colors would be great. As well:

128 gb option
5 inch screen
Thicker, with twice the battery life

Other than that, hardware wise, I can't think of anything else that I really really want that apple would ever implement (SD card and removable battery come to mind as nice options, but don't see that ever happening).

Software wise:

Customizable control center, notification center, icon layout, icon size, number of rows, etc. Ability to run two apps at once (top half of screen for texting, bottom half for email, or whatever) would be great. Throw in quick reply for texting, and maybe the ability to forward texts and voicemail to an email address and there really is less and less reason to have a jailbreak. Oh, and allow a different pic on each screen. That's a nice feature too.

I usually upgrade every two years, but I would grab a new phone this fall if they implemented a bunch of these features. Probably would do it just for the hardware related ones I mentioned above even if they do nothing software wise.

I'm sure Apple will include a new type of display. With every all-new generation of iPhone, there has been a new display. The 3G/3GS had the original iPhone display, the 4/4S had the doubled-resolution Retina Display with IPS technology, and the 5/5c/5s have the taller 4" Retina Display. I bet my money Apple will introduce a new display with the next iPhone.

My bet, like most people, will be a new bezel-less display with a size around 4.7", and it will have a lot more ppi than the 326ppi of the current iPhone. Called Retina-Plus or Ultra-Retina, who knows, but I'm sure Apple will put most of its effort in design and technology on this new display. Tim Cook said it a few times, that they'll only do a bigger iPhone display when they don't have any trade-offs in terms of quality, and they can install it in a small body. I believe 2014 will be the year for a properly bigger iPhone! :)

As for my other wishlist, I want an even better camera, with a couple of extra megapixels. I know megapixels aren't a deciding factor in image quality anymore, but I want more resolution than 8-megapixels. We've had 8-megapixel camera on the iPhone since the 4S, which came out 3 years ago! :p

Other than that, I just want a new iPhone to come out. iPhone 5s honestly feels a tad boring to me, and the 5c looks awesome but with 2012 specs. I just want something ALL NEW ;)

Well, for the bigger screen, they could always choose 2048x1536, a la the iPad's resolution and thus developers only have to develop for a single resolution.

I also want a iPad-Air / Mini inspired design, with I think is one of the "obvious" design changes for this next iPhone.

As an iPhone 5 user, here is what I'd like to see:

(1) Larger display w' integrated TouchID capability. Getting rid if the home button would be a radical departure, but it would allow for a bigger screen without increasing the overall size if the iPhone. If the entire display can read a fingerprint, it would allow for finer access control over apps.

(2) More RAM. Battery life may be a concern here, but it would help app launch speed to keep more recently opened stuff in memory.

(3) Waterproof. Liquid spills are the only major iPhone damage that I fear. A $650+ device should have resilience to this sort of damage, and several competitors offer the feature.

(4) Keyboard. I wish iOS would offer some kind of predictive text.

(5) File repository… or at least some iCloud equivalent. If I'm replying to an email I should be able to attach more than just photos and videos.

I'd love to see like the post above some form of waterproofing so that I'm not afraid to use my iPhone in the rain also and I've sent this suggestion to apple, a small translucent ring around the home button that has a pulsating ring of light for missed calls, messages, email etc if not then a led somewhere for the same purpose,
a smart wifi option so it switches off once you leave your home wifi and will come back on once your home or it can remember where other wifi locations are and switch back on once you get to that area.
I think where all the same when it come to battery life but solar charging sounds good to me as well.

1 I don't want a larger phone. I wouldn't mind a bigger screen. If they can do away with the bezels and wrap the screen around the button, and speaker, that would be great. But I don't want a larger phone.

I want to be able to use my phone one handed.

When I get home from work, and at the weekends, I like wearing jeans. I want my phone to fit comfortably in my jeans pocket. I don't want it digging in to me when I sit down.

Large screens and phones are great for when the phone is in your hand, and being used. But for 90% of the day, at least, your phone is in your pocket.

Large screens, seem to be popular with users of mediums like MacRumors, and Apple bashers, but thats it. When it comes to real world usage, and ordinary iPhone users, they either don't care, or don't want a larger screen size. Many people coming back to Apple from Samsung tell me that the bigger screen seemed great at first, but lost its appeal after carrying it around for a while. If people want an Apple device with a bigger screen, buy an ipad mini.

2 128GB memory

3 A camera that takes better photos indoors, when energy saving light bulbs are the only source of light. A camera that takes better video in those conditions. The camera already takes great photos outside, in good weather.

4 Better battery life. The better the phone gets, the more you use it, the more battery you need.

I want a better proportioned screen. Let's admit it the iPhone 5/5S is almost useless in landscape for everything except video. I hope they go a little wider but nothing crazy. I used to use my 3GS/4S in landscape a lot but never really for my 5/S

I want a notification light on the front, like my galaxy currently has and longer battery life

There is a a world of difference in overall size between even the biggest phablet such as the note 3 and a iPad mini...

And yet people never seem to realise that. Saying if the next iPhone is 5.5" one might as well get an iPad mini (7.9") is just a daft comment. Another user posted a picture of a Note 3 next to an iPad mini to give some perspective and I feel it would be helpful to have that picture hover atop every post on MR so people don't forget there is actually a significant size difference.

My number wish for iOS 8 is to fix the damn Music app, one of the main root of iOS was music and a major reason I bought an iPhone over android. Also while at it, make the album art on 3.5" devices (iPhone 4s which is likely to get iOS 8) bigger like the 5/5s.

Many great suggestions in this thread. Mine are...

- Improve fit and finish.
- If there are two screen sizes, please make the CPU in the smaller screen size as powerful as the larger phone. Just because I want a smaller screen, doesn't mean I want a slower phone.

Phablet iPhone 6 please

I would welcome a larger screen iPhone 6 as I have poor sight now I'm older & can't use my iPhone to surf. I was tempted to get a samsung galaxy but don't want to be ostrasized by my family. Apple bring on the large iPhone 6 NOW please. Best regards to all, Steve;

I'd like to see Apple construct the iPhone 6 so that it functions the same way the iPad does. Specifically I'd like the iPhone to work in landscape for all apps the same way the iPad does. I don't need the iPhone to be 16x9. Give it the same ratio as the iPad screen and give me full landscape function. Also a bigger screen would be nice.

I want more degrees of whitepoint reduction in the next version iOS 7 or iOS 8. The bright white background to everything is extremely hard on my eyes. Just one step of whitepoint reduction is not enough. There should be at least five or six steps of whitepoint reduction to an almost grey background. For me this will be even more of a problem with the larger screen area of an iPhone 6. This is the single biggest reason I have stayed with iOS 6 on my 4S. Apple had it right with iOS 6. In general it is easier to read and has more useable gradations of brightness in the different screens.

If they go with a bigger screen, multi touch gestures
Ability to switch double tap home and swipe up from bottom functionalities. So swipe up to open multitasking instead of double tap.
Better battery... At least double of what my crappy 5 lasts
Better stabilization on camera
At least 8mp front camera
Keep home button on top

i want it to be the THICKEST smart phone in the world ...

seriously though i don't care how thick it is i just want it to last more than 24 hours of intense all day use. If it was twice the thickness of the 5/5S i wouldn't care.

New fat kid in apple camp.

I'm hoping for a bigger screen, and i hope that Apple give a choice between 4.7 and the 5.5 on the day its released. I've heard rumours that the 5.5 is delayed but i'm hoping this isn't true.

iPhone 6 wishlist...starting size = 32gb same price.
iPhone 6 wishlist...release date = summer like it used to be, then kids can get these before college too.

Hardware Wishlist:
- iPad inspired design: beveled edge.
- Bigger screen
- Notification status light: Text/email/missed calls I've missed this since my Blackberry Curve 8310
- Longer battery life
- better speakers
- Brushed aluminum: Polished shows too many scuffs
- Moved sleep button: Place it somewhere that's close to where you'd naturally hold the phone.
- No crazy "wasted" resolution: anything above retina is good. Too much and we're losing battery life for nothing.

Software Wishlist:
- Siri API integrated into more apps
- Allow apps to be placed anywhere on the grid, not just the next open space
- Customization apps/settings in the swipe-up dock (forgot it's name). It would be nice to swap the calculator for something like wifi list.
- Let us delete Apple Standard Apps!!! I don't need Stocks, Newsstand, etc.
- Widgets - Home & Lock Screen. The only thing I miss from my JB iPhone is having a weather status widget on my lock screen.
- iTunes Home Sharing: Speed it up. My iPad takes a long time to connect. The AppleTV does it immediately, both on the same wifi. Something is wrong with that.
- Sleep timer: "Siri put my iPad to sleep in 30 minutes". Yes this sounds stupid, but I use my iPad for movie or music when falling asleep and wake up hours later with it still playing. Having a simple sleep timer, like a TV would be amazing.

  • Increased RAM
  • Quick Reply
  • springboard customization
  • improved low light camera
  • image stabilization
  • improved speakers
  • biosensor capabilities

Apple lost me on the Iphone 5 with the lack of 128GB option. I have more music than that and don't have the option of streaming for my whole commute. Once I started looking at what Android had to offer, I got the Galaxy Mega 6.3". I won't go back to a smaller screen than that at this point, regardless of how much better the Iphone works in practice. So, I guess my wishlist would be a 6-7" screen and at least 128gb on board storage. NFC would also be great, but not a must have.
