Shaking at speed is almost always due to a need for alignment and wheel balance. I've never had a car that did anything but get smoother the faster you went when they were properly aligned and had good tires on them that were balanced well.
Yea, I figured that out after the fact, lol.

I can only get the CTS up to about a hundred.. There is a govenor on the engine.. cuts the gas pedal right off.

However on the womans 350z roadster we got up to 137 or so..

Try turning on the emergency flashers next time you are going to hit 100. It disables the speed limiter on the convertible Camaros and Firebirds maybe it will work with your car too.

Isn't the CTS somewhere around 4000 lbs? I wouldn't be surprised if it just can't reach that speed due to weight or if it is not possible at all to turn off the limiter for safety reasons due to the weight of it.

Weight doesn't affect top speed of any vehicle. It only only affect acceleration. Aerodynamics heavily affect top speed though.

Hrm...I tried Google for a couple minutes but I couldn't find anything about a governer on the CTS that cuts off the gas at 100 MPH.

That sounds pretty strange, do you have a mechanic friend you could ask?

those 350z cars are very nice...they just seem so different than the z cars i grew up with

the new ones just don't look sleek and fast to me, but i am sure they beat the older models

if i find a 240z in good condition, i know i will be temped to buy it

craziest ride?

160+ on the autobahn between Dortmund and Hamburg, bumper to bumper in the RAIN, while the driver was crying her eyes out cause of the stupid song on the radio reminds her of her boyfriend dumped her . . .

no cage for me kiddies!

That's pretty insane. I would say go faster on a motorcycle if you don't like cages but really skis are far more insane. No breaks and that speed really there isn't much in the way of changing directions either.

235 mph in my friend's (and sponser's) Lamborghini

Sorry I don't know the model number

But I have pictures!

It could have been worse. She could have been talking on her cell phone.

I thought the top speed on a Lambo was somewhere around 200MPH. I can see that he is going 235 but I can also see that he has about another 2000K in RPM there..so does that mean that his car can do about 250 MPH? If so KICK ASS!!!! That is like F1 speeds and there engines are a million to 3 million a pop to to design and make.

There's a couple differences between an F1 and a lambo, namely about 10,000 RPM and a lot of acceleration.

I was just saying that I was impressed Considering that....Mauricio Gugelmin [...]
Pole performance at California, at an average speed of 240.942 mph [387.7586 km/h], was the fastest official lap in auto racing history ... Also had a practice lap of 242.333 mph [389.9972 km/h] prior to qualifying, the fastest unofficial lap in auto racing history ...
[...] Recorded the fastest race lap in the U.S. 500 at Michigan Speedway ..."

Now this was average. The top (trap) speed was (from a post by Barry Posner):
: According to the Omega Timing site (omegatiming.com), the fastest
: trap speed during the Fontana race was 245.528 mph (395.14 km/h)
: by Jimmy Vasser.

: Last year at Michigan, Paul Tracy recorded a trap speed of
: 256.948 mph (413.52 km/h). The same site gives Adrian
: Fernandez a trap speed of 333 mph, but that *has* to be an error.

: The top trap speed at this year's Michigam 500 was 249.018 mph
: (400.76 km/h) recorded by Richie Hearn. With a Ford motor ;)

240 mph McLaren F1 Road Car Shatters Top Speed Record.

The McLaren F1 has obliterated the production road car record achieving a new official top speed of 240mph/387km'h at the VW Ehra-Lessien proving ground in Germany.

A team of four McLaren F1 road car engineers together with the Technical Director Gordon Murray ran XP5, a standard F1 road car built in 1993, for the top speed record runs. Driven by racing driver Andy Wallace the F1 took just one attempt to break McLaren's previously unofficial top speed of 231mph set at Nardo in 1993. On the third run the car reached a phenomenal 240.1mph/386.7km'h smashing the previously held record of 212mph set by a Jaguar XJ220. The record breaking speed was independently verified by a team of VW technicians.

With a 21km track consisting of two 9km straight sections and banking at either end the facility at Ehra is one of only two in the world where it is possible to attempt top speed records. Whilst the straights stretch out into the distance the circuit is the width of a three-lane motorway leaving little room for error. Driver Andy Wallace described the behaviour of the F1 during the runs - "I'm amazed at how stable it was at 240mph. The forces acting on it when you are going that quickly are not double what they are at 100mph - it's the square speed".

That is one scary car that our friend is in!!!

Yea, the McLaren F1 "Road" car.

It's a race car in every sense. The seat is even set in the middle of the car.

Last winter I was forced into the worst ski wreck of my life due to an idiot who didn't understand the concept of looking uphill before cutting left.

The ski patrol measured that I was travelling at 92-96mph/147-153kph at the time of impact.

If it wasn't for my lateral bindings, I would have destroyed both legs. As it was, I only sprained both ankles.
