I've recently finished the first book and I am on the second right now. I don't want to watch the trailer or look at any of the promotional images until I am done with all 3 though. LOVED the first book.

Sucks that I have been busy lately, otherwise I would have had them all read by now. :(

Finished the first book on my flight home for the holiday. It's clearly a teen/young adult book (didn't realize that going in), but still very good. He author did a great job capturing the emotion of the characters, which I was impressed with. I do wish they were directed at an older audience, as it world have been nice to get deeper into the characters (and, frankly, the book was so short!).

Really looking forward to the film now. The trailer looked promising before I'd read the book, but watching it again it looks fantastic. :)

Only a few more days!

I didn't pay attention to when tickets went on sale, so perhaps the 25th for me as well.

I never place stringent expectations for movies of books turned into movies. There's always limitations due to time/production constraints. Some of the released clips show small things that uber-fanboys (or girls) have complained about, but it all looks solid to me. I mean the original trailer was essentially a summary of chapter 1, but you get those people complaining "why didn't they show that non-important scene of them standing in a forest that I always wanted visualized?"

Went on a bit of a tangent there. I just want to see a solid representation that someone who hasn't read the book would at minimum understand the overarching story line as it was written, if not more.

Yup, I can't wait to see it! I hope it does well enough so that they make all three of the books into movies.

I have the book sitting on my desk and from everyone that I know that has read the books they can't say enough good things about it. I can't wait to start reading it or see the movie!!!!

I've never read the hunger games but after watching the trailer it doesn't look that close to Battle Royale.

Battle Royale was about misbehaving school students who, to teach them a lesson and to set en example for students all across Japan, had to participate in Battle Royale.

Hunger games is similar in idea (at least what I gathered from the previews) but has a lot more going on about it behind the scene, and actual characters to care about. (I can't remember any of the characters from Battle Royale, but I do remember the one kid getting a paper fan as a weapon lol).

Can't wait for the film to come out this Friday! I've finished the first two books but haven't had time to read the third yet :( I wonder how they're going to make this PG-13 with the graphic details in the book...

I doubt they're going to show that many deaths, or at least make them less graphic. A significant amount of the deaths in the book are pretty gruesome.
Its about kids forced to kill each other for food, I'm not sure you want to take your kiddos to see it ;)
It depends on what he age he determines is 'kiddos'.

I've heard the books are good, but the movie could be hit or miss. I'm going to wait and rent it and monitor reports in this thread in the mean time. :D

I'm only leery about the movie because girls like it. LOTS of girls....even though it has guy movie written all over it.

I remember what happened when girls started getting into werewolves and vampires...

Well it is a YA book, so those same kids would be reading the books anyways.

You shouldn't judge a series by (part) of its fan base. The Hunger Games trilogy has a lot more to do than a girl picking between two guys and it's written much better than Twilight. There's no comparison really.

Kill for food? Not really, to kill for entertainment of the citizens of the capitol and to keep the other districts in line.

In the end, it's about a young girl who starts a revolution.

I don't think the movie has guy written all over it. I mean Peeta and Cato are "hunk status" according to my early 20s female friends. Also, the main story follows a late teen female and her personal plight. It has female, female, female all over it.

Katniss stepping up for her sister? "Girl" stuff. Katniss torn between her home friend/semi-crush (Gale) and district 'partner', Peeta? "Girl" stuff.

Not to say any of that is bad, but the premise (fight to death/fight to survive) is kind of overshadowed by all those things and gaming the capitol to stay alive.

Aw here I thought it was going to be some bloody game for food by the sounds of the previews :(

Maybe I won't go see it after all. I got the impression that it was similar to Battle Royale, The Running Man (parts of it), and that old obscure movie "The Lottery".

Guess not if its geared towards teens :(

I think the theme of the trilogy (at least my personal interpretation) is gears towards both teens and adults. Granted, that doesn't guarantee that the movie will portray the themes correctly, given that they're geared more towards entertainment. But I would advise you to go read the books, especially the last (best) one.

Actually you're right, and I can't seem to remember the connection between the title "the Hunger Games" and the story line. I read the book just over a year ago, maybe someone who has read it more recently can explain it. But I guess I understand why people who haven't read it would think its about food.

There is a chance HG will gross 75M on opening day and 150M for the first weekend. I think it's going to draw across all demographics.

.

Okay I think its called the "hunger games" because the winner is set up for life with food and supplies in a world where many people are starving. In post-apocolyptic Panem, life is a struggle for its citizens.

Agreed. The 12th district is one of the more poor districts, so they don't have much food. If they win, they get a life supply of good food and other stuff.

It also may be referencing how all the citizens of the Capitol are hungry for the blood and fighting that's in the Games.
