If it wasn't for OS X, I'd be doing the same. I have to say, though, I do like the look of Windows 7. I still don't quite want to make the jump but, looking at the iPad, I really think Apple are losing it. I don't think I'll be Apple by the year's end, but OS X will be hard to give up.
Oh no, does this mean i am excluded from the "cool mac guy" clan that lurks on this forum? Damn, and here i thought maybe i can sign up to macrumors to make friends.
didn't read the thread but a new member coming in here makes a post demanding apple release something or he is jumping the apple ship is hilarious to me.
Wow, I almost feel like I am in high school and i just told my video game buddies that i'll be trying out for the football team.
Has nothing to do with faith, it has to do with alternative products out there that might make sense for people that don't want to wait nor spend money on outdated products.
Windows 7 is pretty nice. There are little things though that are a pain that OSX makes real easy (like finding your MAC address and setting a static IP).. but one can adapt...
I've had this MBP since 2006, and hope to have my next laptop for 3 to 4 years as well. So for me, the deal breaker will be if the update doesn't bring USB 3.0. But on that note, anyone know what other computers are coming out with USB 3.0 (besides the Envy)?

I'm hoping for a serious update on the MBPs, but I haven't heard anything that indicates the new machines will be deal-breakingly bad. Blu-Ray is over-hyped, but I think most people will be massively disappointed unless we get i5 at competitive speeds plus a nice GPU refresh.

If you want to leave Apple and switch GO AHEAD. Why is there a need to broadcast it like we actually care? Because we don't.
Gateway NB5927u
Check out the Gateway NV5927u. Best Buy had it on sale for $499 a while back but they sold out in an instant. It come with an i5 (listed as an i3 by error), 320 GB HDD, 4GB of ram, a blu-ray drive w/HDMI connection, LED high-def screen and 4 USB ports. It is a pretty nice product for the price. eBay has a bunch for $600 - $650 but that is still a deal. Then you can pocket the difference and upgrade the hard drive with an SSD and get some software as well. This sucker flies in stock condition. Sure the keyboard is a little cramped but the quality is there. Plus it smokes some of the $1000 + Windows laptops. Yes I know specs aren't everything but this setup is hard to beat for the price.
I am half tempted to get this setup if the MBP refresh is half-assed by Apple and wait for the fall refresh. It would be a cheap band-aid to compensate for Apple's shortcomings. With that said, I am still going to wait until Apple updates their line.

Shipping times on the T410's are 16 days to 4 weeks. They're sweet machines though, I love all the port connections.
For everyone's screaming about how late Apple is, there are very few Arrandale machines making it into the hands of consumers at this point. The new Sony Z series is set for a mid march release date. There are more Lenovo's coming out in March and the current one's have long ship times, basically til March.
I don't know anything about HP Envy, other than I don't want one of those.
I do wish Apple would at least make an announcement. It's lame that a good number of people thought yesterdays announcement of Aperture 3 thought it might have been an announcement that the product was being discontinued. Apple clearly does things there way, it doesn't mean its the best way.

I mean I have a DELL right now and I can't wait to sacrifice it for a nice Apple. but with those prices and Apple being slow at releasing new stuff it's more then normal to be tempted !

I too am contemplating this. I am not wed to either platform nor do I have really major software investments OS X side, so switching would not be a big issue.
I ultimately want a 13" machine with an i5+ and game capable GPU, and right now, the Vaio Z fits the bill. Of course, there may be issues with the SSD drives in that machine, in that they may or may not support the TRIM command - of course, OS X doesn't support TRIM at all anyway, but nonetheless, an SSD without TRIM is a pretty iffy proposition. That said, in all other ways, the Z is perfect.
I've always said, if someone releases a 13" with an i5 and good GPU I'll buy it. If Apple does it, I may well stay with Apple... if they don't, I move on to something else. Ultimately, I have little faith in Apple because my feeling is even if they do update, they will go with an integrated or low end graphics solution in the 13" MBP. I don't really want another 15" machine, so that alone may make me switch.
