As i mentioned numerous times, Prolene, is that I am simply seeking alternatives because, unlike some people, I don't know how much longer I can wait for this update. Create drama? yes, that is it. You got me..

Bottom line, though you diehard mac people like Prolene won't believe me, is that I want to stay with Mac, but I may not be able to stick around for the update. Hence, i made a post on a mac forum consisting of, people that use macs, to maybe provide some insight on some possible alternatives considering my situation.

As far as the lifestyle thing goes, I just never could have imagined that I would be hurting people's feelings by even discussing switching to a PC haha. So it just makes me think there is some sort of "once you have a mac, you are stuck in the lifestyle." To me, it is a computer that allows me to work and generate revenue. Do i want to stay on OSX? I do.. Am i going to wait months for a new update to come out though? probably not..

BS !
tell me ONE thing you can't do with C2D and can with a i7 ...
We Are not speaking about a lifestyle. We Are speaking about a futile reason to want an upgrade right now.
If you can live without OSX (and you can), go buy a Dell o whatever, because Apple isn't going to update notebooks every 5 months just to listen to you

So this is so important to you that you need to start a thread about it, and you're not even willing to say why waiting for a new MBP is so unbearable? Hmm...

Well, I didn't start a thread to justify why I am considering other alternatives. I started a thread because I noticed in other threads people were considering other options, so i figured why not have one thread that consists of alternatives for people that don't have the time to wait. Yes, I'm pretty certain these people do exist, if I am wrong please let me know friend.

You can think what you want, but considering you seem like a person that believes in their assumptions, I feel no need to justify my reasons to you. Carry on.. :)

This is comedy. As you guys can imagine, since I am here for drama, I am enjoying every one of these posts. So please keep them coming.

im making the switch to mac with an MBP because i just bought a desktop gaming pc running windows 7...
windows 7 sucks... its marginally better than vista.. which isnt hard...
if you think you can live without OS X after years of using it and switch to windows 7, your gonna be really dissapointed...

the comedy is what you are making since the beginning of the thread.

And I'm still waiting for the list of things you can't do

I appreciate your concern and your proper grammar. But, I am afraid I cannot reveal those things to you. Nothing against you, I just feel like that is not the purpose of my thread. Thanks again for your concern though.

If you encode large music/video files the i5 would save you hours of work every week. Beyond that, if you use ANY graphical application, the updated GPU's will again increase your workload by a few hours a week.

Well, I know you weren't asking me, but for me, it wasn't about what I can't do with C2D that I can do with i5/i7. I needed to get a new laptop of some kind because my last one died, and I just didn't feel like paying $1200~$2000 for a C2D machine when there are solid i5/i7 alternatives available. I ended up going with a Thinkpad T410, with core i7, dedicated graphics, and 1400x900 14" matte screen in a solid Thinkpad body with all the ports I could ever need, all for less than $1400. Would've liked to get a MBP, but Thinkpads are pretty nice as well.

btw, if anyone else is looking at Thinkpads, they also have the T410s, which is the thinner version of T410. It weighs less than 4lbs, and comes with i5. And there is a 15% off ecoupon right now.

Hmm. I just found this and it seems like a good deal.

Thanks for the reply.

I think apple SHOULD give a release date anyway, so we know we are waiting something at least.;)

And have a bunch of older MBPs sitting around?

Unfortunately for all these impatient waiters, you are a small minority in Apple's market. And thus, your whining will do little to make an impact on Apple's release dates. Even worse, this impatient minority will most likely end up buying a MBP anyways.

Does Apple always announce things on a Tuesday, then?

Hyperthreading, and turbo boosting (overclocking) single cores, for two more reasons.

Only problem with all of the Thinkpads is that they have ***** graphics cards, barely better than onboard graphics. And Thinkpads aesthetically look like they're a bad parody of notebooks from the 80's. Clunky black plastic, no thanks.

Not a problem. I figured this thread was supposed to be about potential alternatives to MBP, instead of bashing you for bringing up the possibility of considering an alternative.

and fyi, one downside of theT410s, and the reason I didn't get it, is that it only comes with intel integrated graphics, and it cannot be had with i7s, at least for now.

I got a 15" Alienware last week.

Is a great computer (for a PC). The display resolution is way better than my 17" Mac Book Pro.

But...

1.Is as big as my 17" MBP

2.Windows 7 is great! but still windows.

3.The trackpad of the Alienware is clumpsy, my MBP is an actual professional trackpad.

4. the alienware with some good upgrades 1GB of Video ram, 6GB of ram, etc, was $2000, the 17"MBP was like 2700 2 years ago.

5. The MBP still my primary computer by far. The productivity with the Apple computer is, and I am not kidding, 300 times more, faster and reliable than with the Alienware.

OS9's more stable than Vista lol:D Win7 just restored the stability of XP after the Vista mess...

Oh ok, yea I will keep that in mind with the thinkpad. I was also looking at the Vaio F because the Z might be a bit out of my price range and it also doesn't come out until next month.

This thread is ridiculous. And no, I don't mean about the obvious need of the OP to point out how much he wants i7 and is mysteriously unable to tell us why (Hint: he's just whining about how Apple hasn't updated).

This thread is ridiculous because of the mere assumption that everyone who is indeed in NEED of a new computer that is not the current Mac line of notebooks is looking for the same type of computer. "Alternatives" as the OP calls them; one cannot recommend an alternative that fulfills the person's needs when the person's needs are not clear. Everyone here who is indeed switching away from Mac has a different need, and because of the great diversity in non-Mac hardware, it is nearly impossible to pinpoint a good recommendation for someone who is only willing to give "better hardware than Mac" as their requirement.

What I mean is that, OP, if you REALLY want advice on which non-Mac computer is your best option, you'll have to tell us more about your needs, and I'll be glad to be the first to find you one; otherwise, it is obvious you just wanted to rant about how Apple hasn't updated, without any real need of yours.

Oh wow, I feel so enlightened now that I really know why I made this thread. Thank you mac rumors pyschologist!

Differences between C2D and I5 are measured in seconds and minutes, not hours.
And if you really need power for graphic-intensive applications, you probably need a MP, not a notebook.

BTW, we all know that MBPs are going to be updated in the next weeks ...

oh, very interesting ...
And exactly since when hyperthreading and Turbo Boost are APPLICATIONS ?
when I use my computer I don't care about tech specs but I need to run software properly.

Hyperthreading effectively adds two 'cores' for free - which is two more than C2D could ever do.

APPLICATIONS, as you capitalised, make darn good use of the two extra threads. Conversly, APPLICATIONS also make good use of the Turbo Boost feature when using a single core. Plus there's the newly added SSE implementations.

Happy trolling, noob.
